Haven’t tried the fenix yet but the FBW handles beautifully, this is coming from someone who actually flies the real thing, how well it handles on approach and landing surprises me every time how close it is to the real thing.

Not sure I agree.....On final approach, on FBW you can cut the throttles to idle at say 350ft, and the speed doesn't bleed off quickly enough, and yet still make a smooth touchdown. Try doing that in real life your PAX are in for a VERY hard thump and likely gear damage. The Fenix flight model this perfectly..... cut the power too early and your alpha needs to be consequently higher to reduce that ROD, and you're in a for a big thump. Also the FBW engines spool up far too quickly. Fenix, it takes a good 8 seconds to get to take off power from idle, just like in the real thing. As someone who flies the real thing, do you disagree?

I'm very close to someone who is an A320 Captain for an airline here in the UK, and he's tested the flight model with me, and verified to me the engine model is not accurate....on landing, if Im at VLS, and can cut power to idle at 350ft above the runway and still make a smooth touchdown, then the model is not correct. I'm curious to hear @ahmed hassanin thoughts on this aspect.

It’s great to see some options for A320 flights in this sim. It’s also interesting that the Fenix is STILL getting a run for its money from the FlyByWire team! It’s a testament to the amount of work put in by them. I will have to think it over next time I have some income to spend, but I’m also looking to the horizon for other future airplanes for MSFS as well.

I feel this FBW is sufficient for me as this is my 3rd year in the sim. The one thing that I love the most about MSFS is the detail. So now being spoiled with amazing graphics, I would itch to get the Fenix just because it has a detailed cabin. Now truth be told, I am sure I am not going to spend any time in that cabin, but the expectations are higher since we now have an amazing platform to compliment immersion. It appears the direction everyone is a fan of regardless of experience is hands on, feeling true to life and having more things to touch and look at.

I have both, and I love both, two different variants of the A320 but I gravitate more towards the Fenix for the same reasons mentioned. The biggest CON for me for Fenix, at least right now (and for those who are into DIY cockpits), is the difficulty if not impossibility in getting FCU/AP (and other) numeric sim variables for display without using some hacks. This is in part due to their licensing with ProSim, prohibiting them from using it for home cockpit systems. I am slowly making panels, switches, displays and this is the challenge for me.

I love FBW. I've never flown the Fenix, but having the FBW free and as great as it is, you get more than the FBW. I love that with the same installer, their team has created an alternative AI vehicle/aircraft injector that is much less performance draining on your system. Visually, they look the same, but the AI of movement is even better, and you'll increase your FPS using it. Not only that, but FBW is also making (the first) and very realistic A380, which will also be free.
When there is a fantastic free version of a plane, you really need a lot of great reasons to pay money for the same plane you already have. I just didn't see anything in the Fenix that justified it over the free Flybywire.

In the Fenix app there are some settings you can tweak to improve performance. One well known is to reduce the outside airliner texture size from 8k to 4k which on a 1440p display should look the same from the outside, unless you zoom in a lot.

I don't own the Fenix but I just downloaded the FBW A320 and flew a 2.5 hour flight in South America and I have to say I was extremely impressed with the whole package.
I couldn't agree more on the EFB with the FBW. The integration, especially with Navigraph and Vatsim are a milestone above other EFB's. I was also very happy with the sounds and the detail level of the cockpit. In fact, for me, the only thing the FBW is missing are the TOC & TOD functions. Once those are implemented, the FWB will do just about any A320 enthusiast like me just fine.
I'm not big on needing failures. I'm not an IRL Airbus pilot so I just want a plane that can get me from point A to point B without any fighting or frustration and I had zero of that on my very first flight with the FBW. Frames were great as well It's a win! Thanks for sharing your comparison video. It's a great help as well.

The simbrief integration in the fenix is made to match the uplink system in the real thing, so that’s why it doesn’t do as much as FBW. also, the flybywire system disables close to the ground irl, and that’s modelled in the fenix, so that leads to instability after takeoff etc

The "only" 2x simrate increase for me was an absolute dealbreaker. Albeit I discovered that AFTER my purchase. Otherwise, the fenix is really stunning. ONE MAJOR issue I have however is the lack of sound fx when touching down. I tend to do very soft landings, and I get no audible indication that I have touched down with the plane. Now, I can work around this with some mods that monitor my landing rate in fpm, but maybe that's just me. The FBW has far better sfx in my opinion. The real A320 incorporates a landing flare system to aid pilots in feeling the landing properly. At 50ft, it memorizes the attitude and then trims the plane down at the time a flare should be initialized, while directing the flare, in order to help pilots land properly, because otherwise the fbw system (or "fly-through-computer" system as Airbus calls it) makes landing feel wonky. But it also takes some getting used to.

Personally it's sort of a silly question - "Which one should you get ?" - They're both excellent, like really superb aircraft, but one happens to be complely free so obviously getting the free one makes the most sense, at least as a start - I have both and both are well worth having in your hangar. Which one would you get would make more sense if you were paying significant amounts of money for both and you didn't want to waste your money on a more mediocre aircraft. Wouldn't it have been better to have a title "FBW and Fenix A320s compared"... Secoondly they're different aircraft, so not strictly comparable. One is a more modern long range A320 neo with very efficient engines (FlyByWire), the other is a slightly dated original model A320-200 (the Fenix). Finally, the A32NX is not shareware - it"s entirely open source and has no restrictions to its use. It might be wise to look up the definition of shareware.

yeah the reason the Fenix is harder to land because it has more realism to it, being i have flown a real AB320 and i can tell you the MSFS and the Flybwire versions of this aircraft is no even close to the real thing when it comes to landing.
there is a ton of drifting in the real thing when landing this is just how it is, these people landing the AB320 in MSFS think hey i can land a AB320, but if you put them in the seat of the real thing and give them a chance to land that, they are going to be saying like WTF is wrong with this plane LOL
the fact is there is nothing wrong with it, it's just no a simulator, it's the real thing, and so if you did give them the chance to land the real thing i would say 80% it would not be a good landing at all, and about 60% chance they would either crash or seriously damage it.
and probably a 90% chance as they are on final they would say take control i can't do this.
And than later probably ask why did this plane do that? LOL
So i would say if you want to get as close to realism as you can get buy the fenix and learn to fly it..
Piloting is a lot of work, it's not as glamourous as most thing, Commercial Pilots have a hard job, they got tons of things going on and also have to deal with problems with the passengers and other things NOT JUST FLYING the PLANE..
#1 not many realize that yes you have a flight plan, 70% of the time maybe 80% of the time your flight plan is altered by ATC while in flight, many times ATC or Centers will contact you and redirect you to different waypoints than you had programed, there you have to go to the FMC and input these new routs in, and also ALT chances as well.
This is constantly happening all the time it's not a sit back and let the FMC do all the work, NO NO NO, that is not the real world ATC is always changing thigs all the time.
Even before departure, when you contact clearance, they will tell you to stand by for a change in your flight plan and send that to you and than you got to make the changes..
This can cause other things such as how much fuel your going to use, weight and balance changes, tons of stuff your always busy, they have been times a flight attendant has come to me asking me about something in the back where i'm trying to make changes that Clearance has send me and i'm want to say like "What? can't you handle this i'm busy go away lol..
it does get stressful believe me..
Than when you get changes in the air, you have more work to do you have to make new calculations and all kinds of other stuff not fun at all.
Hey, being a commercial airline Pilot is a JOB!! yes it's actually a JOB this is why they pay you all this money, this is not like your going on a pleasure cruise with your Cessna 172 sight seeing lol
So all that being said, this is the reality of it just ask a real airline pilot, they will tell you the same thing i don't care who they worked for it's a hard job, i worked for DELTA, and which made it worst because that company is very demanding, they pay you more money but wow they got tons of crap you have to do even after the flight, yes you actually have reports you have to file all the time..
Constantly, report after report after report, after your done your 3 hour flight you got to file your reports which take around an hour to fill out and file..
than you got 2 hour brake, really only 1 hour because than you take a dinner brake or lunch what ever it is than you got to get ready for your next flight 1 hour after that, depending what your routine is, i was doing Short halls and shuttles all day long, Boston to NY, than maybe NY to SC, than from SC back to Boston and than more reports and than that is your day and you come back and do it again, maybe this time boston to NJ, than NJ to GA, than maybe GA to Boston and than Boston back to NH than back to Boston again lmao..
it wasn't always like this tho at first you don't have seniority and you do not get to pick and choose your routine, you are doing long halls at first the seasoned pilots get to pick and choose and DO NOT Want to be doing Long halls , they want to go home to their wife and kids or grandkids every day..
so yeah at least for DELTA that is how it works, when you first start your bottom of the totem pole and you do not get to pick and choose anything, so if you got a relationship or marriage, good luck to you i know many starting pilots who ended up in divorce because of the job, because they where home maybe 1 or 2 days out of the week and back out again remember one guy telling me when he called his wife saying he will be home today, she replied, i hope your kids recognize you, being sarcastic, yikes, not the life of a married person when you first start out.
if you want to be a commercial pilot, do it when your young before your married other wise 50/50 chance you will lose your marriage..

I’m enjoying the ultra high spec of the Fenix and I agree the MCDU features are amazing. There’s a real feeling this is the real deal. BUT, although it’s early days, I am noticing a real sluggishness on my system when I operate the FENIX - even my mouse feels slow and there’s the experience of a kind of loss of ‘touch’ generally and this is starting to bug me a bit. Against that I have to say the experience of being in the cockpit is great. As someone else says, at £50 quid, it’s good value, so why not have both? But, you know, if my budget was really tight, I’d be tempted to say stick with the FBW - you’d be missing a bit, but not that much.
