After 3 years of service, it seems like the time has come to retire my trusty X-56. Got a great deal on a used Warthog base and the sidestick is ordered! Thanks for this great showcase
As someone who's flown Level D A320 and A330 sims for around 12 hours in total, this is amazing. Will have to keep an eye out on this, thank you for giving us your perspective on this.
Didn't get an desk mount since where I'm from, I would consider the price a little unreasonable. But I gotta say, a small chair and some heavy books work really well as a mount.
I’ve been using this for 10 months with the warthog base and have had no complaints at all. I didn’t realize they have the blue rubber gaiters now but that’ll be a definite purchase soon.
Completely agree about the base discussion. I have both Virpil and Warthog bases and I actually moved my Warthog to a Virpil base because I feel the Thrustmaster base is "sloppy" and less precise, especially around center. But at the same time the feeling under load is far better, 100% agree. Sad that it's such a tradeoff.
@@Star-bp5jj …better! It is much “heavier” in feel. Made my sim feel much more like flying a real aircraft. Got the cat3 tiller as well. For my setup I felt it was worth the cost. Not sure it would be for many. The new stick from winwing looks good too. But this fs projects stick is like using the real thing
I got mine 3 days ago. I use it with virpil warbrd-d base with the heaviest springs as mentioned here. I find it extremely heavy though… When I watch real live videos with Airbus sidestick operation visible it doesn’t look that heavy at all… What is noticeable though is slow return to the center of the real thing.
Very nice Video, I have the same set-up and I wouldn't give it away for money. Compliment to you for the Video and to the boys from FlightSimProject for their Side-stick. 👍👍👍👍
I agree, after months of searching this particular setup was the last one I tried and I’m sure glad I got it because it is definitely the best one IMO and will be worth the wait for anyone who goes this route
Hi, I like your videos very much, because there are so many detail and informations on a high level! I use zje Thrustmaster Warthog stick on my left side and I'm very satisfied, because it's very very precisely and I think the strongness of the spring is very realistic.
188 euro in case you were wondering. Less the base. You have to order the stick to match with the base of choice it seems. Was there a 20% off code you forgot to post V1? 😁
Very nice video! I was thinking about getting this sidestick but just one question: Is the tension similar too the real sidestick because I've noticed the real sidestick is very stiff?
@V1-Simulations Do you know what the differences are between this and either an Orion2 or Super Libra with the WinWing A32 grip, and which is better these days? Could you sit down with @320 Sim Pilot and do a comparison review together, please :P?
It's always funny seine bus pilots making so many inputs that don't actually do anything. I think it's a psychological thing with flybywire. You make inputs because you're bored with how stable the aircraft is.
Amazing, I might get this for myself... I love my HOTAS Warthog since I use DCS and XP11, but I've been flying the Toliss A340 a LOT these days... I think it would be a good purchase.
Does your setup include the flat magnetic base, or just the smaller circular base the stick plugs into? The reason I ask is..wouldn't the flat magnetic base get in the way when trying to find the perfect position for mounting
@V1-Simulations I understand the side stick is mounted at an angle in a real cockpit (I.e. it’s not mount exactly flat relative to the ground). Do you know the precise x and y angles relative to the floor? Is it about 6-13 degree tilt to the right(cpt)/left(fo), and about the same forward in the real Airbus? (I’m thinking of mounting the hotas metal flat plate onto a wedge-like base and that to the desk mount)
Hey V1 do you know if this stick will work with the orion 2 base by win wing? I have their f18 setup and looking to move away from the tca sidestick. I like this stick for the reasons you mentioned much better than the winwing sidestick.
Do I get it right that the underlying mechanic is actually the same as with the thrustmaster hotas? In other words: Is this stick basically just the grip and the buttons or does it actually change the resistance etc?
Thank you so much!!! This is exactly what I was looking for! I was leaning towards a different base than the thrust master warthog since it has a ball and cup design, but you sold me on it since it is more similar feeling to the real thing, I will just have to take your word for it. Its not like its going to be for fighter jets ike my center mounted hotas, Im hoping the wear will be significantly less consering it wont be jerked around very much since it wont be seeing any combat lol. Hopfully some sort of grease or lube can prolong its life! Im so excited to try this one out, I appreciate you!
Glad you found this video then! yup I think you will enjoy that base combo. For "airbussing" it just feels right. There are some guys on YT who have videos showing how to lube/grease the base. Fortunately for me tho I havent had to yet! Enjoy your new combo when you get it set up!
Thanks for making a review from a REAL PILOT's perspective. Although I have the Oldhog base, I'm really not a fan of its obsolete centering mechanism...so I want to give it a try in the future on "THE other brand" which I happen to have as well. Do you think a lighter spring, dampening from the dry clutch(I have the heavier model from the "THE other brand" that has a dry clutch system like the VKB), a shorter stick extension(not 100% sure but it appears to me that the real thing has a longer arm than any of the desktop joysticks), or any combination of the above could potentially save those cam&spring-gimbaled joysticks a bit? Also I was wondering what kind of material the fsprojects' product is using, is it metal as well? Thanks in advance!
For sure, I think with the right tuning you can definitely get the feeling right "in motion." My problem was that on my setup when I went to the heavier springs, and I think on my VKB i doubled up with like a heavy and light spring, when I held the stick "under load" at or near its limits I could tell that there were springs fighting me back. While yes the warthog base tech is obsolete when compared to Vkb virpil etc having that giant ball socket and single heavy spring in the base really camouflage what is going on when under load. As far as range of motion or arm the real airbus is not all that much different than the warthog really! Id have to measure it somehow to be exact but again, remember in normal day to day operations we seldom move the stick in full deflection (other than flight control checks). Keep tuning it, strive for the resistance of the warthog, without a super quick snap back to center feeling and you will be very close! The material seems to be a very high quality resin, which I believe the real stick is made out of as well.
Thank you very much, your analysis on these joysticks is very interesting, the thing that makes me hesitate to acquire it is the problem of your peripheral vision without a Chinese hat and no buttons to zoom in/out... You have a VR headset for vision or use the mouse, or others...?
You need monitors or projectors giving you at least a 180 degrees field of vision, the only way to operate an aircraft simulator realistically, your eyesight is operating partly sideways even when looking straight ahead, there are no chinese hats in Airbus. The Fsprojects stick is well worth it's money, I've used it for half a year, and this review was very good 😊
