@@CMF7692 Of course, she was not lying. She was speaking her truth. But it was very mean. But some people practice not talking about others at all in private. I just can't imagine Celine Dion trashing anyone, even Jennifer Lopez who CAN'T SING or whomever else. I agree with you, we all make mistakes (considering gossipping is assumed to be private thing, but that does not mean we should do it, so I do consider this a baddy on Whitney's part, but I don't hold that against her. I was just stating that she has shaded... just a few times). Anyways what matters to me is that Whitney Houston and Celine Dion loved each other very much; they were not friends, they only met a few times, I'm sure, nothing more. But there was love. Whitney has NEVER considered herself to be superior to others, which I do acknowledge. Neither Mariah, nor Celine, nor Barbra Streisand saw themselves as superior (Aretha Franklin is a whole other story). And Whitney Houston always had an open heart to other artists. She said in an interview with MTV that she loves listening to the human instrument in everyone.
They sang together in the “Prince of Egypt” soundtrack. “When You Believe” Powerful song, with a powerful message with two of the most powerful voices.
That is the one thing people fail to give Whitney credit for: her intelligence. People like to believe that she was just gifted with this innate talent without acknowledging her hard work and skill in honing that gift. She KNEW her craft backwards and forwards.
Someone say that her Superbowl performance wasn't the best or at LEAST amongst the top 3 and I will judge you harshly inside of my head. There may a couple worthy enough to be on the stage, but not in the spotlight.

It can be seen as diplomatic yes, but it's the truth. They sound nothing like each other, their voices are extremely distinct and unique. Cannot compare them both at their prime.
I know but think of the legacy she left behind. Her music, her spirt, and to be honest: I loved her production of "Cinderella" that she did for the wonderful world of Disney. She took a "color blind" approach to the casting and couldn't have picked a better cast (including her self as the fairy godmother a role she played at Brandy's request)
@@simppreventionservices8781 Whitney had a longtime girlfriend that she was ecstatically happy with. But she could never free herself from the bigotry of the religion she was raised with so she couldn’t live her true self. She was unhappy with Bobby because she wasn’t straight.

The way that Whitney is not only one of the most gorgeous and classiest woman I’ve seen, but her voice is also the most gorgeous thing. Her singing makes my heart want to fly right out to heaven because her angelic tones are giving it wings.
As a life long vocalist, I once heard her do something live that fucking stunned me; On live TV, she went from a low baritone to a soprano in one fluid tone. Possibly the greatest vocalist I've ever heard.
I saw Whitney from the 10th row in 1987 and her singing was stunning. One of the rare few who sounded better live than recorded. I was blown away by how good she was. Best female voice i have ever heard, past or present. I am not exaggerating
You can't ever really say that, that are tons of different voices across various genres, and not all singers can do them. The closest people to having the greatest voices, would be those with a voice capable of entering eithet genre, and I don't see either whitney or mariah belting like a rockstar. Freddie Mercury or Dio now those are two who could sing anything.
She's right up there, as others have said, her singing here is almost effortless. Personally, I put Brandy Norwood above her and Mariah. Brandy's vocal range is so insane, even the Red Hot Chilli Peppers admitted to imitating it through guitar!
Mariah is one of the artists that try to diminish other female singers. She did that so many times with ariana grande, who said in various occasions that was Mariah's fan. I can tell Mariah learned nothing from Whitney's class and respect.

I remember vividly being at S.I.R. Studios in Manhattan awhile back where a friend working with Joe Jackson was setting up a rehearsal session for him in one of the smaller rooms. In the BIG room further down the hallway, Whitney was rehearsing for her upcoming tour. The doors of that room were open and although we were in the smaller studio, we could hear her as clear as day, vocalizing and just going thru her routine to warm up. Just her, powerful, practicing, no other vocalists, no instruments, nothing else. I was in absolute awe at how phenomenal she sounded, I'll never forget it. I never walked down the hallway to peek in, I was too embarrassed and didn't want to spoil her concentration if she had a sight line to the door. Respect.
Not disputing, I'm just putting another name out who is probably one of the best in their genre. Chris Daughtry, the lead singer of the rock band Daughtry, has one of the most powerful voices I have ever heard, and has incredible control over his voice when singing the high, loud notes. I'm not going to compare him to Whitney Houston, it's more of a plug lol, I just wanted to point out that while she is amazing in some ways, other artists (like Daughtry) are amazing in other ways. Although it is largely a plug because he and his band are way too underrated

Even her speaking voice was beautiful. I remember some of her interviews when she would just start singing a snippet of something. No music, no band, nothing, just that incredible voice.
To be very specific, Whitney and Mariah were not actually compared, but only pitted against each other because they were peers (who sang the same type of songs). There was no copying of any kind. Before Ariana however, Christina Aguilera, Leona Lewis were all compared to Mariah-and they all are from different generations. And generation after generation this would continue to happen, because Mariah has become the standard that everyone wants to be and copies. You literally can't name any other artist who is *simultaneously* one of the greatest voices of all time and is one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
Wrong. Mariah and Whitney were on top at the same time & that is why they were compared. Ariana is compared to mariah because she is influenced by mariah & has covered her songs

@Student of Mechanical Engineering in Germany What do you mean???
Whitneys answer is so professional and not imature like other artist constantly shading each other. No wonder why she deserves everything she have because she has respect for other artist.
@Rochelle Rubio
Well she has shaded somewhat other artists like Lady Gaga and most certainly Paula Abdul.
@@prabhuthomas8770 what is lady gaga?
@@prabhuthomas8770 She called out her costumes, but acknowledged that she was gifted. As for Paula, that was a private moment that just happened to be shared with the world. We all have opinions in private. And frankly, SHE WAS NOT LYING.
Whitney perspective was as a professional singer no jabs. It was very honest. Whitney voice was extremely unique and flexible.

Whitney was SO knowledgeable about her craft, and just was the music. Incredible.
That is the one thing people fail to give Whitney credit for: her intelligence. People like to believe that she was just gifted with this innate talent without acknowledging her hard work and skill in honing that gift. She KNEW her craft backwards and forwards.

Smooth and silky, yet strong.
Someone say that her Superbowl performance wasn't the best or at LEAST amongst the top 3 and I will judge you harshly inside of my head. There may a couple worthy enough to be on the stage, but not in the spotlight.
After 20 years and two children together, my husband knows that I will go from 0-100 on the rage scale if he dares to sing I Will Always Love You. I get pissed at any other song he sings of hers, but that one is a deal breaker, frfr

What a tragic loss. I wish so many things in her life could have gone differently.

She dug her own grave.

The fact how she did it so flawlessly, unplanned, and effortless
I saw Whitney from the 10th row in 1987 and her singing was stunning. One of the rare few who sounded better live than recorded. I was blown away by how good she was. Best female voice i have ever heard, past or present. I am not exaggerating
She had the best singing voice ever, hands down.
Opinion
You can't ever really say that, that are tons of different voices across various genres, and not all singers can do them. The closest people to having the greatest voices, would be those with a voice capable of entering eithet genre, and I don't see either whitney or mariah belting like a rockstar. Freddie Mercury or Dio now those are two who could sing anything.
No
I’m more into Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis jr. but I do love her work.
She's right up there, as others have said, her singing here is almost effortless. Personally, I put Brandy Norwood above her and Mariah. Brandy's vocal range is so insane, even the Red Hot Chilli Peppers admitted to imitating it through guitar!
The smartest and classiest response. 👏🏾
Ok. the way she just casually runs her voice like that so nonchalantly in a conversation Fucking SLAYS me to my knees!!!!
While you're down there, help a gal pick up her chin, would ya?

Back when artists defended each other instead of smearing them
Yeah👏👏👏
Mariah is one of the artists that try to diminish other female singers. She did that so many times with ariana grande, who said in various occasions that was Mariah's fan. I can tell Mariah learned nothing from Whitney's class and respect.
@@comerowasabi well, the media and the press were constantly bombarding Mariah with questions about Ariana Grande. Even they tried to put her down. So I kinda understand Mariah. BTW they have a song together so I don't think there is any problem between them.
Y'all honestly seem to have no knowledge of music history and it always shows in the comments. Artists smearing artists isn't even remotely knew. Joe Tex called James Brown by name in a diss song in the early 60's. & You can hear artists dissing other artists even in 1920 recordings.

Yos! Thw dame gucking ray!
@@rodrigombl452 ha, good one
The difference is Mariah really didn’t sound like Whitney, whereas Ariana literally admitted to vocally mimicking Mariah.
