The worst part, in my opinion, is that even FEMALE interviewers stoop that low when they should know better. It's sad to see people who know the struggle be part of the problem.
Just here to remind you that women are also conditioned and socialized growing up to have internal misogyny so although I completely understand what you’re saying it is inaccurate to say we are part of the problem or that we should know better seeing as it is patriarchy, sexism, and toxic masculinity that’s groomed us to subconsciously believe that we are less than our male counterparts. And I do agree I see women interviewers do what you’re saying too however rather than criticizing us, realize that the misogynistic socialization all women experience is so detrimental that it is apparent in even the smallest mannerisms, like asking a fellow woman a degrading question during an interview. ❤️
That's also a sexist consecuence. The thing is that we're suppossed to compete against ourselves, you know... for which reason it could be... That created a social role. The “written off as the sexy one” question is so dumb. The majority of the cast are conventionally attractive to both genders. But I agree it's a dumb way to preface a question and an even dumber phrasing to use with a female celebrity. In fact, the question didn't even need a preface. He could simply have asked the second part. "How do you feel about being the emotional core of the team?" or whatever he was going to ask.
@Anna Niedziela depends. If he did indeed ask the other guy if he wore undergarments (note this and not underwear) isnt that fair? Because that's what does seemed to have happened. Then again, to wonder how on earth does one fit I to a skinny suit, can that not be a rational question? What if, the interviewer was indeed asking an innocent legitimate question? Are we not hasty to cast him in the light of sexism? Thus I say, let us not so quickly refrain to ideas and feeling or hate or disgust. If he was indeed sexist, then so shall it be. If he wasnt sexist, then so shall it be also. But what shall not be? Quick and thorough judgment without a proper investigation. At least for this individual alone.

I am a flight nurse. I wear a nomex flight suit everyday and fly in a tiny helicopter in the Rock Mountains. My crew of all genders are amazing, but It NEVER CEASES to amaze me the questions I get from the looky loos. “How do you go to the bathroom” or “ how do you fix your hair”is the most common. My all time FAVORIT is “how does my husband feel about it, and how is he ok with it?!” Seriously?!?! Never ask my male coworkers anything like that. The questions are ridiculous.
She handles these awful questions in such an awesome way. She doesn’t blow up or yell but she gives such sharp witty responses that shut the reporter down without shutting them down. I love her!!
@@SpookeyClown I mean everyone handles things in a different way. Brie Larson may just not be able to handle them in a witty way cuz of how uncomfortable they make her. I think both these ladies are amazing for having to deal with stuff like this.
As much as her responses are cool, women are not required to stay calm or be witty about it. She has every right to be mad or shut them down, though her way of handling it was very cool.
You'd take offence at these questions? Talk show hosts are comedians for 1. The fashion question was a ridiculous reason to get annoyed, she's making it that only women care about fashion, men are just as proud and bothered about how they look.. the underwear question started off straight forward, just curiosity, and then she made it about what kind of underwear it was. He never said that,, and he said he'd asked the guy the same question. She twisted his words knowing he was worried when she started questioning him and he tried to explain he didn't mean it that way. But she ignored him because she was enjoying ripping him to bits and watching him be uncomfortable. She knew he couldn't say anything back because then he's in the "bullying women" trap.. I'm all for powerful women speaking up, but she took everything as a dig at her. Massive chip on her shoulder. And if she was that bothered about it, why would she take a dumb job where she's a silly super hero in a tight suit, which men also wear in these movies btw. She ran with this for her "girl power" speech for this kind of attention. I used to like her too. This was over the top using her celebrity status to shoot her mouth off . Sad
I appreciate her ability to maintain her composure while still letting the interviewer know they're an idiot for asking, as well as giving a humorous answer.
she has to, otherwise the whole media would turn against her and pump out tabloid nonsense about her just bc she dared to clapback at an idiot journalist
These questions are just silly. The kind of person who asks her if she wears underwear underneath the Black Widow costume is the same person who would be disappointed if she said yes… I’d rather get her opinion on who she reckons Black Widow could beat out of the other Avengers in a 1v1…
Exactly like I want to know how she prepped for the role and all the cool nerdy questions like who would she want black widow to 1v1 in the next movie or summ
The problem with all these questions is she wants to be seen for her acting ability and not just her looks and they don’t understand at all that she wants to be taken seriously
@@philasogwa8875 they do ask her that a lot. that’s the point of the video, you can literally hear her say why do they always ask her about that and you can see it’s uncomfortable. when they asked her about “fashion” they were talking about black widow. black widow doesn’t even have anything to do with fashion? they could’ve asked like RDJ or something, since tony is the rich one. she wants to hear question about the character and her acting. yes of course you can ask her “what other suit would like to wear if you had the option to choose?” but it’s so weird to ask ALLL THE TIME “what do you wear underneath?” like bro what.

Being in a nearly all male cast early on in the MCU probably really magnified how people viewed her as a female differently than her cast mates. You can see she was over that shit real quick.
...yeah well she didn't have to take that part, it's a fantasy-type film anyway, she could have played more credible and serious roles if she wanted. It's part of the deal when you play the hot chick wearing a sexy skin tight costume

Yeah she's hot, but so is the rest of the cast and you don't see them getting asked stupid questions like that! You're acting like her role isn't serious, she's literally a superhero. She saves people. How is her role less credible than anyone elses??? They pretty much all have the same role just dif names! They're all heroes, they all save people, they all have cool fight scenes, they all look hot, and none of them want to be asked dumb questions like that. It's stupid how you're saying its her fault for taking an iconic role, when its actually the interviews fault for not asking questions about how iconic her role is.

Frr i love how they just kinda watch with pride as she tells these interviewers off
the fact that he had the audacity to say "written off", like that was the only good thing about her character
The “written off as the sexy one” question is so dumb. The majority of the cast are conventionally attractive to both genders. Just because you sexualize one person doesn’t mean they don’t have any value and don’t deserve any depth beyond appearance. That’s beyond the most disgusting thing I’ve ever heard. Kudos to Johansson for keeping her cool because I wouldnt have stood for that shit.
Yeah she's obviously sexy but they are all presented like this, having another character gushing about how attractive they are.
@@TheLaurieJi deflecting to hemsworth was a good move because my sister does not hide how much she appreciates his features.
Yep, this shows the state of media journalism, shallow and pointless.
To be fair, that was not his question. He was building up to something like "Obviously your character COULD HAVE BEEN written off as the sexy one but..." Maybe he was trying to say "but you ended up being the emotional core of the team. How do you feel about that?"
But I agree it's a dumb way to preface a question and an even dumber phrasing to use with a female celebrity. In fact, the question didn't even need a preface. He could simply have asked the second part. "How do you feel about being the emotional core of the team?" or whatever he was going to ask.
@@hittingyouoverthehead ya but asking it that way I feel would if been shallow and had less impact
Downey was awesome at the beginning supporting Scarlett. And Scarlett taking down everyone else was awesome. The guy who asked about her underwear!!!
It is what it is what it is.
@Anna Niedziela depends. If he did indeed ask the other guy if he wore undergarments (note this and not underwear) isnt that fair?
Because that's what does seemed to have happened.
Dont get me wrong, she probably does face sexism and I'm not saying it's right. However, in this particular instance, could it be possible she's overreacting?
I think reasonably so.
Or maybe not.
@@bond3161 I don’t think she overreacted. She asked the interviewer guy if he asked another guy (forgot the name sry) wether he would be wearing underwear. And the interviewer answered “no!” (In like a “hell no why would I do that” voice) sounds really sexist to me
@@Dean-ft6qgmaybe she didnt overreact. But I think it's a bit quick to say for that specific segment at 4:14
It appears to be indicated that the interviewer did ask Hawkeye if he wore undergarments, but that the interviewer confirmed that he didnt ask what kind of underwear he was wearing.
You see. The original question was did you wear undergarments under the suit.
To do you wear underwear under the suit.
To what kind of underwear do you wear.
The second and third of which was stipulated by johanson herself. What does this indicate? Of course, based on that segment alone.
Once again, I dont doubt she faces a lot of sexism. This world is sexist. But being overly defensive and backarched is also a thing and should be acknowledged just as much.
Two sides to a coin.
That's like asking what's your name to a female?
She replies by saying, why you wanna date me?
He says, no, I just want to be friendly
She says, no you just wanna get in side my pants.
Comon guys, is it really impossible to ask an logical non perverted question?
@@bond3161 uhh no, the question referring to either Black Widow or Hawkeye is inappropriate. That question wasn’t appropriate, to ask in the first place. Wether a guy or girl, what someone wears under a costume is just pandering to the horny audience. So they can be like omg did you know Hawkeye isn’t wearing anything under omg that’s so fucking hot, or the same with Black Widow. That’s creepy and isn’t appropriate.
Your example is overreacting because being upset someone asked you about your underwear, is different then assuming someone want to say you cause they said hi. The interviewer did ask what undergarments she wore, rephrasing isn’t misinterpreting.
Yea I agree, why is it so hard to make interesting and appropriate questions? They should value the actor’s passion more.

She ran with this for her "girl power" speech for this kind of attention. I used to like her too. This was over the top using her celebrity status to shoot her mouth off . Sad

Rdj was like yeah no you’re not going to minimize Scarlett in front of me sorry
I appreciate her ability to maintain her composure while still letting the interviewer know they're an idiot for asking, as well as giving a humorous answer.
she has to, otherwise the whole media would turn against her and pump out tabloid nonsense about her just bc she dared to clapback at an idiot journalist
She reaches epic levels of irony doing so, thought. Her disappointment must be on the same magnitude.
she made 30m for that movie.. id take stupid question for 30m too
@@NoahBeck-ik8yxdude she put in the effort to get that much money
These questions are just silly. The kind of person who asks her if she wears underwear underneath the Black Widow costume is the same person who would be disappointed if she said yes… I’d rather get her opinion on who she reckons Black Widow could beat out of the other Avengers in a 1v1…
Exactly like I want to know how she prepped for the role and all the cool nerdy questions like who would she want black widow to 1v1 in the next movie or summ
The problem with all these questions is she wants to be seen for her acting ability and not just her looks and they don’t understand at all that she wants to be taken seriously
Yall act like that's all they ask her
But she's a good looking woman. Of course she'll be asked about fashion and all that
@@philasogwa8875 and just because she is good-looking it makes the questions less sexist?
@Gianelly Isreal
They should just cut the crap & ask if she is wearing any panties.
@@philasogwa8875 the point is, they don’t ask the good looking MEN those questions.
The fact that there’s five minutes worth of clips is just sad.
90% of these clips aren’t even sexist
@@VideoEssayWatcher5484 yes they are XD smh

The fact that the beginning had all girls asking the sexist question
Media is weird. Journalists, both male and female only focus on what sells and they objectify female "fictional characters" the most for this sake. It's stupid and reduces depth in character's actual purpose AND it objectifies people who play them and it's creepy. Sexism is sexism no matter where it comes from.
It's not really sexist then is it. Also they ask Chris Hemsworth and Tom Holland and Chris Evans the same questions lol
