Instead of stapling wire to trees, we like to nail a 4 ft. piece of 2x4 to the tree and then staple to the 2x4. Love your smile and hard work. SMILES!!!

Greetings from eastern NC! A farmers work is never done! Both of my grandparents were farmers. My Dad's Dad used modern equipment while my Mothers Dad used mules whenever he could. That was many years ago. Both have been dead for 30+ years now. I miss the farms. Y'all work very hard. I enjoy your videos....reminds me of the days helping on the farm. Keep up the great work!
Meredith, I think the backhoe is farmer's best friend, other then YOU. Chainsaw sure comes in handy. The skills a farmer and his WIFE need to know are endless. Having lived on a farm at one time, I remember learning the skill of repairing fences, a lot of work. You did good showing that fence post who was in control of that hammer.. Stay safe. Enjoyed farmer's advice about keeping the sun out of your eyes !!!Lol.
My granddaddy loved a straight fence. He would tell me “now look down through there! Look how strait that is! Well ain’t that purdy”. That was 30 years ago. Those fences are still standing. And yes they are!
my dad put in 200 posts across some flat land one day, 1 was just outa line, it bugged him for ages, so he went and dug it up and straightened it up , to gun barrel straight

Practice, practice makes things work better. With the hammer, look at how the face of the hammer is compared to the flat of what you want to drive something into. If you can get the face to be parallel to the surface when it strikes things won’t bend or fly away so much. Then you can start working on the strength of the blow. My dad was left handed but when in a tight spot he could drive as good with the right hand, I never got there either. OH the joys of fencing, that was always a job that came up when you couldn’t work the fields. Never a shortage of chores on a farm

The good lord made sticks of all sizes, pick on up cram it as prop, and there you got. You’re doing just fine sister Bernard, just girl up.
You and LB are doing a wonderful job with involving your kids to this farm life . Letting them try new things is how they learn and gain confidence and that will help them through life ! And just letting them be kids , having fun and just enjoy being kids.

Put a spike or staple in at the height you want then lift the wire up over it. Pull out your helper when you finish the staple. Great job with the Backhoe and Claw.
I was thinking, there's probably a stick of wood around about the right height to wedge the insulator up against the post where it needs to be 😎 Maybe throw a nail in with the staples for the next time.
I was agonizing over how hard that was going to be while watching. A 16p nail in the staple bucket would be handy, but even a staple just tapped in at the right height, with a bit of an upward tilt, would have made that so easy. And still be able to pull back out, maybe with another staple looped inside if the claw needs help pulling a staple back out.
Lawrence sure works hard, he is a good farmer.Thumbs Up, Like they say if you ate today thank a farmer ;-)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and adventures. That sure is some pretty land you have the privilege of farming. Hammering is a skill few have and take for granted until they need it. Saw a video the other day, woman was watching her little kids hammering nails into a sheet of plywood for practice. Couldn’t help but think, that’s a lesson few children will ever learn but I bet her kids will never be at a loss in the future whenever they need to nail something. Stay safe, wishing you and your family the best.

I have an old set of fence stretchers just like that! Good ole Stihl saw. Looks like an 029 Farm boss. Put a staple where you want the wire, drive it half way in. Set the wire on top then staple the wire place and remove the first staple.
Lawrence works hard but so does his Family & the Furbabies ❤️❤️🥰

Tack a nail up where you want it to be , pull the live wire up and hook it over the tacked marker nail, then nail the staple around live wire, then pull the tacked nail out, all in good day of hanging live wire (hot fence) thanks Meredith.your doing fine, thanks y’all BigAl California

This Farm Wife - Meredith Bernard the other man had a good idea too, find a stick that is the length that you need sticking on the ground under the wire at the height the wire needs be and-tack the staple in it like , that would work to like a cane under the wire good job Meredith, thanks BigAl California.
I had to smile with LB's observation to "travel west in the morning." After leaving the farm years ago, I've always made a point to live east of my office(s)...with the sun at my back in the morning, and again in the eve'... And while I've since returned to the farm as my home...thankfully, it too...is east of my office. ;)

Fence fixing is something that always has to be done to keep those cows in! :-) Being raised on a farm myself, fence fixing was the hardest but rewarding job when it was completed. One of my jobs was to stand on a box, (since I was a little short!), & drive the post with a post mall by hand as well as roll barb wire! It all was a good work out! Thanks for sharing your fence fixing as it brought back memories of me helping my dad, (he was a good teacher!), fix fence! :-) Don/NE Ohio

Just love watching the kids helping out their dad. I was always daddy's helper when I was little handing him tools and stuff.

Some ballcapz ,like you wear, have a thin piece of plastic in the bill. Put it underneath the wire and pickup. You will know quickly if it doesn't 😁

Hay there farm wife, this is Bill from AR. Next time you need to staple a hot wire and you can’t hold it and staple at the same time. Drive a nail or staple without the wire and hook the wire over it then staple the wire!
