  • www.myboxingcoach.com - I've said it before and I will say it again, simple works.
    When developing boxing skills, even at the elite level, simple boxing drills are the staple of ever growing, ever developing boxer.
    This boxing drill helps combine footwork movement with punching.
    Ensure that you show commitment in bringing this type of boxing drill to your boxing training.
    This boxing drill will bring bring benefits to the raw novice and the elite-level boxer.
    My favourite part of the drill is that pivot combined with the lead hand uppercut, it's really slick and smart.
    Don't forget and download your Beginner Boxer Toolkit (click the picture on the right). There's lots of info in there that will help you develop your boxing skills.
    Questions and comments below please.
    Cheers
    Fran
    PS - I need to stop saying 'OK'...sounding (and looking) more like Mr Garrison with every video

    I love the simple explanations of the little differences that actually make all the difference, like the timing for the pivot-hooks to either side. For me, that's great coaching - the things that observation and practice alone might never tease out.
    One question - what's the target for the uppercuts? Especially after the pivot to the left - what's the target for the left uppercut, which seems to be thrown from a long way around the opponent?

    I'm in my late forties now and have done various martial arts over the years, but have been away from it for a long time (bad hips joints etc..). I have always wanted to learn boxing techniques, and to improve my mobility as I get older. Your videos have been a massive help to me, and my understanding of the physics and movement of boxing. Thank you

    I love this! I'm going to use this on thursday when I coach my boxing class.
    Can you elaborate a bit on why you throw the left hook ON the pivot and the right hook AFTER the pivot? I suppose it is because of balance and needing the kinetic chain to be in place, but maybe there is more to it?

    • @MrRazmut
      @MrRazmut 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to drive off your back foot to give the rear hand hook good power, but you can't do that until you put your foot down so you have to pivot first. With a lead hand hook you're pivoting on top of your front foot so it acts like a centerpoint that you spin around while pivoting, which puts the bodymass that is spinning around your planted leg into the hook

      we split our week into four parts. monday only techniques, tuesday partnerwork and/or working at the punch bag, wednesday strength training and thursday working on punch bag or shadowboxing with weights.
      so you always have to include techniques in your training.
      and a little tip, if you are new in boxing, dont do it alone. you can do a lot of things wrong and you need someone to tell. otherwise you get some bad habits and its hard to get them out afterwards. and these videos alone are not enough. this guy for example explain things good but his footwork is not the best.

  • @Domic462
    @Domic462 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So on the moving two are you planting the right foot before throwing the cross or are you doing both at the same time? I've been confused on this for years.

  • @suesonday8902

    Thanks so much for the amazing videos. I love your focus on footwork and PRECISE technique!
    I was working these footwork drills yesterday. My question is, when you’re pivoting to the left, do you usually throw a left punch first instead of a right?
    For example, I could definitely see throwing a Pivot Left, 3, 2
    But would you ever want to throw Pivot Left, 2?
    Or does it just all depend on where your opponent is?
    I train for fitness. Still, I like to think about how everything applies in the ring.

    • @myboxingcoach
      @myboxingcoach  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sue. thank you for watching. You can definitely follow a right hand with a pivot left. The shot goes and then the pivot. The thing about pivoting left, or to the lead hand side, is that you can pivot WITH the lead hand shot. Lead hand hook is especially effective. And yes, absolutely you can follow a pivot left with a 2 :-)

    Hey Fran. A question, if you don't mind. On round 3, with the hook, why do you throw the left hook with the pivot, but the right hook after the pivot is completed?

    • @myboxingcoach
      @myboxingcoach  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very awkward pivoting right with the back hand, lead hand hooking and pivoting is more fluid.

    • @karlfarren
      @karlfarren 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@myboxingcoach Thanks, Coach, but I think you may have misunderstood my question. I meant the timing of the hook, not which hand to lead with. On the first pivot, to the left, you throw the lead hook AS you pivot, but on the pivot to the right, you completed the pivot first, THEN threw the hook. See what I mean? With respect, as always.

    When you pivot to the right and throw the uppercut, do you have to pause just as you did when you threw the right hook?

      You can do it either way. If you let the uppercut go as you pivot it will be less powerful, but still a great shot.

      Fran Sands great thanks. Also, I forgot to begin with this but I absolutely love your advice and videos. You have taught me a lot about 'true' boxing and not just trying to look good. I feel that kind of advice isn't given nearly enough (if at all...). Thank you!

    Some boxing trainers say that when going backwards, you should step back with right leg first and punch with right arm, then move left leg back and punch with left arm.
    In this video, your saying to step back with right leg whilst punching with left arm?
    Which is the actual correct way? Is there not one unified way that all trainers agree on with foot work? because every trainer on TH-cam seems to teach differently and I don’t want to pick up bad habits.

    Hello coach, watched most of your videos since i discovered you this month and i'm just getting in to boxing. My gym has this thing where i have to learn more before i spar there but i spar with my friends. From the southpaw vs orthodox, is there any way you would recommend me closing the distance without getting caught with a 1 or 2? Btw he is taller than me by a few inches probably heavier too

      Sorry if this is long, but any drills you'd recommend for flinching? It kind of messes me up and i slip and throw blind punches a lot if you know what i mean. Thank you so much. :)

      Check out this vid on dealing with a taller guy - don't concern yourself with the southpaw v orthodox thing at this point, keep it simple: www.myboxingcoach.com/3-tips-beat-a-tall-boxer/. BTW, your coaches sound like smart guys, listen to them well :-)

    So everytime I throw a combo i should always move in angles and head movement?

    • @myboxingcoach
      @myboxingcoach  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, not necessarily. Always good to hit and not be hit, so head movement is good. These drills are really to get feet working with hands. You can practice other drills to incorporate head movement (or vary this drill).
