    I'm glad someone's reacting to Split Enz. Such an awesome and inventive group. Their their 70s costumes and makeup were off the chain kooky. Totally love it!

      because they were so ahead of their time.

    Grew up in the Mount.....Brother lived nextdoor to the Fins beach house...watched Split Enz at Bay Park when I was in Intermediate...Mount was great back then

    Fantastic song, Split Enz were the first band I fell in love with. Tim is a fantastic singer and songwriter, especially zanny stuff. His brother Neil joined later with a more pop vibe.

      Correct, although Neil was there to co-write many of the hits from this album. He's singing back-up and playing guitar in this clip. Two of the best writer/performers of all time and a great band live.

    1979 New Zealand. No MTV, populated by Saturday Night Fever and Grease soundtracks. Two little girls, 12 and 10, dancing their asses off in front of the TV playing I See Red, while their Dad (who grew up with Elvis and Buddy Holly) was saying a polite version of WTF?! This was so out there, and the start of our musical educations. I love seeing this so much - thank you!

    Tim and Neil Finn were known for their brilliant lyrically.
    The album ‘I see red’ was mainly about Tim separating and divorce.
    Neil, of course, when on too form his own group ‘Crowded House’.
    Neil, recently toured with Fleetwood Mac.
    What a journey.

    Guys you did Split ENZ!!!! They were more great live from what I've seen. Great musicians!!!! Years later Neil and Tim did 7 worlds collide concert inviting guests from around the world and of course, Neil asked his sons band betchadupa who they would like to invite and they asked for Eddie Vedder, it's def worth watching the live version of this, seeing Tim Finn still Rock it out in his dad shirt and even show Eddie how it's done was awesome !!!!!!

    Tim Finn was the lead singer. His brother Neil joined the band for a while. Neil eventually left to form Crowded House. Splitz Enz was an Auckland NZ band.

    Bought this as a single 45 rpm record in my last year of high school. I would have played it 150 times in a row, it was just fantastic for 1979. Great band, great time

    This came out when I was in my second to last year of high school. It's arguably their best song and such great energy. If you like this, look up 'Counting The Beat' by The Swingers, which is a band formed by Phil Judd after he and Tim Finn had a falling out. It went pretty much straight to No.1 and is considered one of those classic NZ songs that everyone knows.

    Splitz Enz were a huge part of my youth. Concerts were the best. They came over to Australia early on and were awesome. Check out the later incarnation of Neil Finn, Paul Hess and Nick Seymour in the band, Crowded House.

    Tim in a less crazy mode was also the lead singer for Split Enz in the song "I Hope I Never" and love him as a solo artist for the song "Persuasion".

    These are the brothers Tim Finn (Split Enz) and Neil Finn (Split Enz and Crowded House). Saw Crowded House last month with The Teskey Brothers. Great mates of Jimmy Barnes (Cold Chisel), he calls them his Finn-laws.

    Such a theatrical based band but still with dynamite musicianship . They had a number of hit songs, including Six Months In A Leaky Boat which was banned in the UK as it was released just when the Falklands War started for more reasons. Crazy!

    When it first came out a DJ in Auckland called it a 3 minute 15 second explosion - he is right. The Finn Brothers are from Te Awamutu; a country town in the North island. They formed Split Enz around 1972-3 .They are New Zealand's best ever band.

    The song is from circa 1978, which was the height of the punk era. The band started out as Split Ends and then changed to Split Enz after a couple of years. Saw them several times on the university and general music venue tours. Am enjoying watching your happy reactions to them.

    Great fun, cross between pantomime and clever music. Tim Finn was the main singer in this one, Neil became more prominent and of cause when the Enz split, Neil founded Crowded House. I highly recommend My Mistake.

      I saw them at Bombay Rock in Melbourne when this song had just been released. On the same night Paul Kelly and the Dots also performed it in their set (on different floors of the venue).

    Funny you mention Michael J. Fox while listening to an NZ band, as MJ starred in a great NZ movie from Peter Jackson called The Frighteners.

    Split Enz are hardly obscure! They were huge in the 70s and into the 80s. Also, the guitar Neil Finn is playing in the clip is a Rickenbacker while the guitar Fox plays in Back To The Future is a Gibson.

      Anything thats not US is obscure , overlooking that Neil was or still is part of Fleetwood Mac. I would have preferred that the two goofy presenters were small on the screen and the video dominated. Saw Split Enz live in Wellington in the mid 70’s they were fantastic as were the costumes designed by Noel Crombie .

    I think you've done reactions to Crowded House. The lead singer, Neil Finn, joined his brother, Tim, in Split Enz as a teenager and wrote some of their biggest hits. Split Enz were known for their incredibly creative costumes and their frenetic musical style. The young man in the glasses playing the red guitar in this clip is Neil. Tim was in Crowded House for a short time as well.

    Eddy Raynor the keyboardist is incredibly I bought one if his keyboards if splitenz when he upgraded his he eventually became a top notch producer too and such a nice guy. I remember their concerts when they dressed like that. It was all fun they have a bunch of crazy songs from their first few albums totally different Phil Judd sung a few too like spellbound, if you want to see their extreme styles
