I loved your reaction to this, Whimory, I love this film. Amélie is how I wish many people were, she has a good heart and eventually through prompting she gains the courage to act on her own desires.
Whimsory, I must say that you are my absolute favorite reactor out of many! This is one of my favorite pastimes, so I have seen quite a few people over the last three years. Your personality is charming and fresh and intelligent and playful. I sense really good energy from you and from that I believe that you are a good person. I also thoroughly enjoy your breakdowns of the films, and I appreciate that you research the films after viewing them. So, please keep up the great work, and I really look forward to seeing more of your content! Peace and love to you and yours! ❤😊
YEAH!! Whimsory is back.. I love your reactions.. you are the hardest working reactor on TH-cam and I hope you know how appreciated the work you put in is. I honestly only discovered you a few months ago and you quickly became my favorite.
This movie has a special place in my heart. Back in 2011, a friend of mine asked me if I'd seen it. I said no but I was aware of it. She then said "I bet you'd like it", so I cheekily replied "okay, what's the bet?". We decided on ice cream. A few days later I rented it and started to watch.... the moment child Amelie got revenge on her neighbor, I paused the movie and knew I was going to owe my friend an ice cream. And I did, much to her glee. More people need to react to this flick.
For me, the lovely thing about Amelie is that she has not lost the ability to see the world as a child sees it: as a colorful place filled with her own imagination. You can also see her constant desire to help others. The music is AMAZING, too.
This is a great movie for people who are introverts, have a sense of humor and are distinct individuals. You're quite right, whimsey is so fulfilling! You remind me so much of my quirky 25-year-old son, the unique take on things lightens my mood.
Whim, you are masterbly whimsical! I love watching you discover these films, and then show your deep intellect with such charming analyses. Don't ever change. And don't stop.
Amelie came out in that special time where DVDs were selling like crazy. Because of that movie studios felt free to green light, weird, artistic, and novel movies. It was such a good time in movies that they felt comfortable enough to bring this great movie to the US, play it in theaters, and let people rediscover it on DVD. I don't know if we'll ever get back to that time of movie magic.
Loved the way your kitten batted the light strings behind you, the same way Amelie's cat messed with the strings of the beaded curtain. Life imitates art!
This movie has everlasting qualities. It's ageless and beautiful, poetic and quirky. It's almost a shame to try to analyze its dreamy and whimsical nature, but you did it very well anyway. Glad you discovered it.
'Amelie' is easily one of my all time favorite films. From the storytelling to the cinematography, it's simply phenomenal. And Whimsory, your reaction and analysis is equally stellar! Thank you!
I was a senior in high school when this movie came out and was pretty much half assing my way through the end of the year. I remember cutting school to watch this along with battle royale as a double feature in Berkeley. Later that night when I went home I stopped by amoeba music and picked up a rare copy of Paris Texas along with girl interrupted, moonstruck and cruel intentions in the dvd bargain bin. Such nostalgic time for me being a young dummy with little to no responsibilities
French here. Not even Parisian, but it's the best movie I ever watched. Lot of it due to Yann Tiersen's music absolutely perfectly fitting with the old fashioned Paris' atmosphere. The absolute masterpiece of Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
When you first arrived here and I caught your channel, 1% of me thought your name was an offshoot based off this movie, one that you'd always loved and watched many a time... and that you just wanted to give/share some joy to others through this channel. I guess I'm only partially wrong ;) France, just like any destination, is only what you bring to it. Go there or anywhere with a clean slate and you will always come away with 'memorables'. One of my fondest memories is having a great falafel and pommes frites baguette across the way from the Notre-Dame Cathedral, certainly not something I ever thought to look for but there ya go. I hope you go there some day :) In the meantime, if you'd like a fantastic rom-com with the same actress, Audrey Tautou, PLEASE do try her in 2006's Priceless.
Hello 👋 Miss Whimsory !!! First Happy upcoming Thanksgiving 🦃 & A very Merry Christmas 🎄 As always the like button 🔳 has been Illuminated 😊 Warmest regards from the Sunshine ☀ State 😎
This is one of the main reasons I subscribed. This movie hit very close to home and when I stumbled on your channel I couldn't shake the feeling I knew you already from "long" ago, then I remembered this movie. I'm glad you got to finally see it.. 🥂 I can finally rest in pepperonis.
Thanks for reacting to one of my favorite films… a feel-good movie that really makes you feel good… and Audrey Tautou embodied the character so perfectly… and as you noted… the Yann Tiersen music so ideally captures the tone and “Frenchness” of the movie. How can you possibly live in a place with no croissants?
Fourth! (and she should check out “THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER” “STRANGER THAN FICTION,” and “PLEASANTVILLE,” too!! ALL magical films with amazing vibes, acting, message… once you see any of these, you’ll never forget them.
i live litteraly meters from where it was shot and I love to see non french people react to this movie (surely one of my top 3 fovorites movies and definetely not the 3rd one). Unfortunately, there are so many references to french culture that non-french miss by far. But still, so nice to see those reacts. Come to visit Montmartre in Paris, you'll see... it's so much different but still has its charm on its own, it's a real place apart from the rest of Paris and France in general.
Amelie is one of my all-time faves from the standpoint of creative originality. Jean-Pierre Jeunet was France's answer to Tim Burton and directed films like Delicatessen and City of Lost Children. Amelie was released in the U.S. in September 2001 but because of the events of 9/11 it didn't get much attention.
This has been my favorite movie since its release, some titles have been close like fight club, blade runner 2049 and everything, everywhere all at once. I had the privilege to splice and screen a 35mm copy at my former job at an arthouse theater for a retrospective
Hello from the South of France, Whimsorry, 🌴🌞 For me, the great strength of this film, apart from its exceptional photography, music, editing, etc., is the construction of many small plots that disconcert us at first, but whose solutions are revealed as the film progresses. It's so brilliant. I pretty much liked your analysis and your style of developing it. If you want to see another French film just as surprising and takes up a little of the concept of Amélie (first the childhood of the two main characters, then both of them at the post-pubescent age and more around a game they invented and unites them for better and for worse for the rest of their lives) but on a very different plot (you'll still notice the homage to Amélie with the photography - the prominent green, yellow, red colors, especially in the first part of the film devoted to childhood). Many Americans didn't like the film because of the ending. However, it's the cement of the film (if I may say so, you'll understand why if you watch it), and its finality is the key to understanding it. It's important to keep in mind that's a fable. It's accessible with English subtitles by searching for this: "ASA 🎥📽🎬 Love Me If You Dare (2003) a film directed by Yann Samuell" (Note: the French title is "Jeux d'enfants"). Also, in Amélie, the actor who plays Amélie's future boyfriend is Mathieu Kassovitz. In addition to being an accomplished actor, he's also an atypical director who directed one of the most important French films of the 1990s. The photography and framing are incredible, the film is in black and white. It's quite different from Amélie or Jeux d'Enfants, but it's definitely worth watching. The film won several awards, including "Best Director" at the Cannes Film Festival. That's to say... "Видео La Haine [1995] (HD) eng.sub." Voilà (lol), sorry for this long comment and thank you for sharing your emotions with us. Peace folks. ☮👈😎
Hi, Whimsory. Frenchman here. Entertaining and cool reaction to this great little film of "ours". I'm not a huge fan of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, but I watched that film the day of its release with my then girlfriend, as Amélie Poulain wasn't the only game in town yet, and I remember us being genuinely surprised by how lovely it was... 2024 me can't ignore that, no matter how much of a cynic he is. I've always loved the suicidal and neurasthenic fish (the English subtitles ignored the neurasthenic part!!!). And Audrey Tautou, without a doubt. Such a lovely girl, remarkably cast. Yes, we drink a lot of wine... BUT we smoke less and less each year. By the way, what country do you live in?
😭 this movie is a warm bath FILLED with bubbles, a small bowl of strawberries, and a large green wool blanket. 📸 Ms Tautou is the most adorable person ever put on screen. (She’s also a very heroic person in The Di Vinci Code)
Hey there, welcome back, nice to see you're ok and more with this incredible movie, you know the director directed the 4th Alien movie? I think the most iconic from him and his friend Caro is The City of Lost Children with Ron Perlman, one of the most fairy and dark movie in the same time I ever watched, definitely recommend it ;)
This movie is one of the ones that helped solidify to me that foreign films tend to be weird, a lot of the time delightfully. However, I think what it really is is that in other countries, you don't have that Hollywood machine bearing down on creativity, so filmmakers can pursue more experimental projects. I can't help but think that City of Lost Children and Babette's Feast are good ones to go with. And I also can't help but mention Like Water for Chocolate, for one made on this continent. I continue to recommend The Princess Bride (which is likely on your list) and Image Me & You (which I don't expect you to get to).
Whimsory, I love your channel. I think it would be great if you reacted to any broken Lizard movie. Super troopers, Club Dread, Slammin' Salmon, Quasi, beer fest, ect... but I really enjoyed your reaction and analysis to Amelie; I can't wait till the next one!
First of all, get the light kitty get it :). Now then, if they were ever to remake this film you would make a great Amelie; you are both odd in the same wonderful way.
Such a feel good movie. I love the music, even played a song at my mother's funeral. I'm actually going to a concert next month where an orchestra is playing the music live alongside the movie.
I love this one! Some more movies that I love are Life As A House, Hearts In Atlantis, Life Is Beautiful, I Live In Fear by Akira Kurosawa, Moonrise Kingdom, the South Korean film Il Mare that the American film Lake House was based on, Netherbeast Inc., and Ed And His Dead Mother.
@ you might like it if you appreciate films that are considered underrated. I liked it but people have different tastes. It has a pretty good cast and a unique story. Anthony Hopkins, Brad Pitt, Marcia Gay Harden. They’re all academy award winners or nominees.
My reading is this. Almost all the significant characters are damaged, in some or other way. Amelie was damaged by her childhood as a result of her father’s mistake about her heart. And her mother’s uptightness. So she becomes an adult afraid of intimacy. Almost everyone else is damaged too - physically or mentally or emotionally. Amelie sets about helping those people. Sometimes with success, sometimes not. On that journey she herself begins to heal. The most important factor in her journey though is The Man of Glass. Like a character in a children’s fairy story he encourages her to take risks. Eventually she is able to let Nino into her life. Try it - think through all the characters and ask what is each one’s damage? This is a film about growing and overcoming one’s personal legacy of damage. And about love and emotional intimacy. It’s so deep it’s easy to miss that psychological depth among the comedy and weirdness and beautiful visuals and music.
There are some amazing French films. City of Lost Children, Delicatessen, The Triplets of Belleville, Brotherhood of the Wolf, La Femme Nikita, Betty Blue... all worth diving into.
Whimsory, there is a channel out there re-posting your reactions as their own called Cypress Hickory. That channel re-posted your reaction here to Amelie just hours after you. They also have the comments turned off so no one can be redirected here to your channel. We all need to report that channel for impersonation, but you reporting it yourself carries more weight.
You just finished the movie and now you're doing your prep for your review. I love this movie so much. It grabs my heart every time I watch it. I made all the actors in the show I was in at the time watch it, then we all made our own film homage to this movie, complete with Faux French. I used Comptine d'un autre et' L'après as music for a video montage celebrating my son's birthday. I can't watch that birthday video or hear that tune without shedding tears. Amelie is my favorite French film and one of my all-time favorite movies. Now I'm given you time to watch the movie a few more times and do some research, let's see if you like Amelie as much as I do.
Wonderful film. I have loved it ever since its first cinema showing having taken its rightful place in my top ten of all time. Regular re-watch material.
This is a fun movie.. I found it years ago, when a co-worker told me about it when he told me about the time he Took his neighbors Pink Flamingo out of his yard and had his brother who worked in the travel industry take the Flamingo with him on trips and send the neighbor post cards from the FLAMINGO!!! I was like how did you think of that and he told me to watch this movie.. He said he had his brother do that for nearly 3 years before he finally decided it was enough.. He told me that one fourth of July they had a neighborhood gathering, and he listened in on a conversation between his neighbor and another neighbor.. and the guy was telling him that something odd was going on and he was getting postcards from all around the world about every 3 months and they were all pictures of his Pink Flamingo with messages like WISH YOU WERE HERE!! Apparently when he stopped he just waited till 2AM walked across the street and put the Flamingo back in the neighbors yard like nothing had happened... He told me that he NEVER TOLD THE GUY IT WAS HIM... but he and his family laughed about it and talk about it on holidays.. I thought it was a crazy story.. and IT WAS INSPIRED BY AMELIE! Everyone I have ever got to sit and watch this movie had loved it. Thanks for reacting to this one and for being your unique and amazing self Whimsory. You are wonderful.
Delightful and fun French adventure with Whimsory. But a question remains, how was that gnome able to travel to so many places and send back photos? Whimsory could set up a kitten cam and post shorts in between her amazing movie reaction videos.
There was a time in mid 90's early 2000 when french movies and actors were all over the media. Jean Reno, Vincent Cassel, Luc Besson. Nikkita, Fifht Element, Leon, Ronin. There's a french movie in the other side of this movie that is really good called Dobberman. Is also really french, but in the messed up side of society.
I absolutely adore that you have cultivated an audience/community who would recommend this film to you.
I picture Whimsory and Amelie have the same personality.
I agree!
Autistic?
facts....genuine and true to herself
I was in-love with this movie the first time I saw it. Still am a couple of decades later.
Same. I saw it in an independent theater like 5 or 6 times with different friends.
The older the movie gets, the more nostalgia hits. Even if the movie was closer to fantasy than real life when it came out.
I loved your reaction to this, Whimory, I love this film. Amélie is how I wish many people were, she has a good heart and eventually through prompting she gains the courage to act on her own desires.

One of the best movies ever. 🎉

I love this movie. It has a special color palette and music. Amelie is a " Manic-Pixie-Dream-girl" who is lonely. Bonjour Whimsory !
The most charming reactor on YT, reacting to the most charming movie I've ever seen! Love it!
So good to see you again, Whimsory! We've missed you. 😊
So say we all.
Nothing better on a stormy winter night than hot chocolate and a Whimsory reaction x
This is a great movie for people who are introverts, have a sense of humor and are distinct individuals. You're quite right, whimsey is so fulfilling! You remind me so much of my quirky 25-year-old son, the unique take on things lightens my mood.

@pamelachristie5570 Looks and acts like Trixy Blue's kitten.
This movie has everlasting qualities. It's ageless and beautiful, poetic and quirky. It's almost a shame to try to analyze its dreamy and whimsical nature, but you did it very well anyway. Glad you discovered it.
My favorite reactor watching my favorite movie. Plus a kitty playing with a curtain of lights. A splendid day.
Such a beautiful and unique movie. Great choice, and as always, great reaction.
Oh I love this movie! And the soundtrack is beautiful
*Thinking about getting ready for bed and Whimsory uploads.* Sleep isn't that important anyway 😁
The world would be a better place if there were more Amélies.
and Whimsorys!
Hey welcome back! I hope you feeling better 🙏🏽😊
Whimsory watches one of the most quirky and whimsical love stories of all time.
Happy early Thanksgiving Whimsorbeanie.
Solid pick to end the month.
When you first arrived here and I caught your channel, 1% of me thought your name was an offshoot based off this movie, one that you'd always loved and watched many a time... and that you just wanted to give/share some joy to others through this channel. I guess I'm only partially wrong ;)

Whimsory reacting to a movie I love and that seems made for her? Morning put on hold.

What a delightfully quirky film! Nice one Whimsory😀❤👍
Thank you, Whimsory! ⚜ One of my dearest friends loves this one.
I have this DVD and never watched it. Now I have watched the film with you Whimsory. Thank you, you are awesome
Great reaction complete with Kitty Kung Fu! Happy Thanksgiving Whims!
Oh my gosh! Thank you so much!!! ☺️ I truly appreciate your kindness!!
My top feel-good movie. The early crane shot over the waterfall moving to Amelie skipping stones with Tiersen's score playing is just perfect.
10:27 Sounds like you need to watch It's A Wonderful Life. It's perfect for this season too.
I would have to agree. I think she would really like it
I Third that *Whimotion*
Fourth! (and she should check out “THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER” “STRANGER THAN FICTION,” and “PLEASANTVILLE,” too!! ALL magical films with amazing vibes, acting, message… once you see any of these, you’ll never forget them.
I only know both very slightly, but this seems like the perfect marriage of movie and reactor. I hope so.

Amelie came out shortly after 9/11 and was a mood boost for a lot of people who needed a mood boost.
Even after the Americans boycotted everything French? LOL
I love this movie and I love your reaction. I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Woohoo!!! new Whimsory - and great film choice!.
Another great reaction, I always look forward to your reactions.

I LOVE SUBTITLES!!!
Whimsory watching Amelie was kinda mete, since they are basically the same person 😂

By the way, what country do you live in?
Haven’t seen this in years but remember it being really sweet!
I remember the traveling gnome 🙃❤️
Hope you’re doing well!

Agree. I totally recommend The City of Lost Children... and also Delicatessen (1991)... Marc Caro has such great style

That "Hon hon hon" is something else 😂
City of Lost Children & Delicatessen are incredible, Alien 4 less so, but better than Alien 3
Yes, LOVED the way she said "Hon hon hon".
Whimsory, your voice is so soothing and adorable. 🥰😘🤭 xxxx
When a gentle weirdo watches a film for gentle weirdoes ... Je suis sûr qu'elle va aimer..❤️
Make that two for Moonrise Kingdom!
@PaulLoh have you seen Meet Joe Black?
@@oliviakeaton1099 No. I remember seeing previews for it on TV when it first came out. Do you recommend it?
@ you might like it if you appreciate films that are considered underrated. I liked it but people have different tastes. It has a pretty good cast and a unique story. Anthony Hopkins, Brad Pitt, Marcia Gay Harden. They’re all academy award winners or nominees.
I told you at least a year ago that this is your movie. Thank you so much for watching it with me!
Nice to see a reaction of a movie that doesn't immediately appeal to teen males. I think their interests are represented amply enough on YT as it is
There are some amazing French films.
We all need to report that channel for impersonation, but you reporting it yourself carries more weight.
waaattt? omg
I have reported this channel several times, unfortunately the channel continues. 😒 Thank you for pointing it out.
@@Whimsory I'm glad you reported it; but sad that TH-cam doesn't appear to take these things seriously.
Thanks for info, just reported the a-hole 😡
This movie is the essence of saccharine, excessively sweet and sentimental. And that is why it's so great.
This is a very formative film for my personality. I want to see more hope, empathy, and... whimsy in my movies.
Vive le Cinéma Français 🎬🇨🇵👍
merci 👍
we need more from your cat playing with lights!
Yay! Whim reacting to a super sweet movie. I adore Audrey Tatou, especially in this movie. She's just so lovable.
I am just constantly crying when I'm watching this movie, I don't really know why, but I think it's such a beautiful film.
One of my favorite movies ever, it's so iconic and dreamy
Talk about a feelgood movie! Oure cinematic joy, one of my all-time favourites.
Delightful and fun French adventure with Whimsory. But a question remains, how was that gnome able to travel to so many places and send back photos?
Whimsory could set up a kitten cam and post shorts in between her amazing movie reaction videos.
Amelie has a flight attendant friend she cat-sits for. After the gnome's escapades, she got nicknamed Snow White.
