She was incredibly huge in the UK, which is weirdly gratifying for me as an American. 🤷🏼♀️ I wanted to be her when I was a kid. Unfortunately, I lacked her ability to sing and play a musical instrument. I had a vague resemblance to her at various times in my life, except I only had legs like hers for half an hour when I was a senior in high school. Just barely for 30 minutes. Maybe 29 minutes and 57 seconds is more accurate. But, my point...I wanted to grow up and be like her, but it was not to be. I'm okay with that now. 😊
@@bjdefilippo447 yeah! I thought I was loosing my mind! It’s been 50 years or so since I’ve seen Happy Days and I can only remember Pinky! I remember Suzy Quatro on the show but thought she was Pinky😁
Ditto! I don't think I really knew much of her outside of "Happy Days". But everyone watched "Happy Days" back then so everyone knew of her "Happy Days character!
@@richarddennis4785 Yes, it was before the "Unhappy Days" when Ritchie & Ralph joined the Army and things were never the same. They pushed Potsie just about totally out of the picture and had him acting differently, and The Fonz became a cartoon of himself. Nothing though could touch Happy Days from 1974-1980.
My favorite Suzi Quatro song has always been "Your Mama Won't Like Me." Joan Jett was heavily influenced by Suzi Quatro and had a poster of her on her wall as a teenager.
Yay!!!! One of my requests is being played! Thank you so much! This song just kicks so much a$$! It's one I have to play at least 5 times (usually more) consecutively.
Suzy had some close contemporaries when she was popular. One you are familiar with is The Sweet, but there was also Mud. They had some hits like "Dyna-Mite" and "Tiger Feet." You will get a kick out of them!
This song is based on The Wild One performed by Australian rocker Johnny O'Keefe in 1958. From Wikipedia "A variation of this song (original production of The Wild One) with different lyrics was also sung by Suzi Quatro and released in 1974 as a track on her second album Quatro. As pointed out by Clinton Walker once again, the songwriting credit was taken by her Chinnichap production team at RAK Records, whose Mike Chapman, as an Australian, would have been well familiar with."
Huge in Australia in the 70s and still tours here nearly every year. This song is partly based on the song by Aussie original King of Rock n Roll Johnny O’Keefe
No it's not a cover of Johnny O'Keefe's song. It was written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn, where as Johnny's Wild One was written by him and two other writers. but yes Suzi Quatro was extremely popular in Australia and still is on the tour circuit.
In an interview she did a few years ago she was asked why she still toured and did bit parts in English tv shows. Her answer: because she wanted to! She said it was not about the money, she had plenty of that, it was just because she enjoyed it. the woman had attitude.
Suzi isn't just a great legendary singer but she is also the Aunt of Twin Peaks/Wild at Heart actress Sherilyn Fenn. It's funny that you mention Joan Jett because Suzi was the inspiration for Joan's look.
My ADD took over, and I checked out the Wiki for the actress who played Pinky Tuscadero. Fun fact: When she was older she was arrested for firing a shotgun into her neighbor's living room window, and then a couple years later was arrested for hitting a man with her cane.
Holy poop! I haven't heard this song, in forever! Like others have commented, I also first knew her as Leather Tuscadero. Her and Kristy McNichol were two of my first crushes. 😂
Suzy Quatro had a memorable part in one of the British TV series, “Midsomer Murders.” She was the first one of a has-been reunion band member killed while performing. She was great in occupying that role as a singer who still had the voice to rock it.
Susi & her 3 sisters had a band in Detroit in the early 1960's called "The Pleasure Seekers" if you want to check out their only album it's called "What a Way to Die"
In 1980, I was 16. I went to see a girl-power punk rock movie called Times Square in the theater because I loved Tim Curry. He played an old school late night DJ in it. It altered my brain chemistry. Suzi's power-punk anthem Rock Hard anchored the films characters to each other. You should absolutely watch the movie. The central performance by unknown Robin Johnson is legendary. th-cam.com/video/PMjOO_cfzrY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=BDvH-5JIOhp3W9a- For the record, Joan Jett adores Suzi, counts her as an influence. I like Susie Quatro the first time I heard her singing on Happy Days her name on that show was leather tuscadero! She mostly sings Elvis Presley songs ! Need to see her sing ! All shook up! She has a lot of great songs!
Other songs by Suzi Q: 48 Crash and Can The Can. Don't worry trying to understand the meaning of lyrics, like all the best glam rock singles, ‘Can the Can’ is about the sound and the attitude first and foremost, with trifling matters such as ‘lyrics that make sense’ coming a distant second. Devil Gate Drive is also awesome. Personally, I love the whole first album, named (and including) 'Can the Can' in Australia, but just named 'Suzi Quatro' in the rest of the world.
I bought the lp (yes, im that old!) version of this and loved it. When i picked it up on CD, theyd redone it as a slow, soppy song, this is much better.
Keyboard player is blind I met him n rest of the band they signed my poster un fortunately Suzi has left str8 after the gig she had to fly back to her children. ❤️🇦🇺
you should definitely check out Suzi's song 'Your mama won't like me', it is such a funky rocky tune. Other songs 'Daytona Demon', '48 Crash', 'Too big', 'Glycerine Queen', 'Tear me apart', 'I bit off more than I can chew', 'The race is on'. Just to name a few :)
Suzi was sooo big in the UK, Australia etc in the early 70s. For some reason she never really hit the big time in her home country of the US. Mind you, the US never really "got" the whole glam thing, not that Suzi was glam as such. Her big hit in the US was the very middle of the road song Stumblin' In, which can't hold a candle to any of her earlier output but at least got her radio plays in the US. Saw her 2 weeks ago in London and she still rocks at age 74!
Even though Suzi Quatro was a real rocker and a tough girl and wild, as she sings here. We sometimes called her Suzi cutie and not Suzi Q because she was so cute while performing with Chris Norman (Smokie) on the song "Stumblin' In". 😊
Joan Jett's biggest influence was indeed Suzi! As were all of the Runaways, Girlschool, and especially Chrissie Hynde. She was the prime influencial female Hard Rocker, same as Tina Turner for RnB and Soul Music and Kate Bush for Art Rock.
It sounds like a contradiction to say that Suzi Quatro quietly brought about a revolution in rock music. Somehow, she managed to appear like women had always been front of band in rock and not just the singer. There were always a few women in the rock'n'roll world, but she normalised it and made it mainstream with one record after the other. So many girls and women were empowered by her. Just look how many women that followed name-check her as an influence. There was a lot wrong with the BBC's Top of the Pops, but damn, it was worth watching just to see - and hear - Suzi Quatro rock our world. Glad to have witnessed her knock it for six.
I noticed Amber is getting into watching various TV series. Maybe one day in the future she might like to try out 'Happy Days'. I think she'd like the nostalgic '50s setting, and she might be surprised at who's in it, eg., Ron Howard, Henry Winkler, Pat Morita, even Suzi Quatro at some point.
Susie is the real deal. Always appreciated her. I've never been a fan of Joan Jett but Susie kicks a$$. Also, she looks like she could be Rick Derringer's sister. 😊 ❤❤

Suzi was huge in Britain during the 70s glam/bubblegum rock era.
By the time she hit in the U.S she was an actress with an MOR track "Stumblin in".
She even moved there.

Next Suzi Quatro should be either "48 Crash" or "If You Can't Give Me Love"
they reacted to "If You Can't Give Me Love"
You guys should try to get her on your show. She'd be a great visitor!! She's GREAT!!👍🏾❤️ Thanks!!
she loves doing interviews and she’s so friendly.

Suzi Quatro is the Queen of Glam Rock.

"48 Crash" and "Rock Hard" are definitely a must from Suzi Quatro next time ❤
What a way to die by the pleasure seekers. Her first band with her sisters. A great song, and great look at early 60's girls rock.
@craigplatel813 Then they morphed into Cradle.
From late 1974 Suzi Quatro`s 4 th top 10 peaked at number 2 in FEBRUARY 1975 she had 3 number1`s by then here in Australia

Suzi is far to underrated in my opinion, the sound of my childhood and a total legend to me.
Love the hair Amber.

The BEST Suzi Quatro song ever ! .. Both Suzi and this song totally rock 👍👍👍
Devil Gate Drive was her big hit in the 1970s.
She also appeared on Happy Days.
She heavily influenced Joan Jett.
Tina Weymouth (The Talking Heads bass player) said she learned to play bass watching Suzi Quatro videos.
@@surlechapeau Her first hit Can the Can also went to No 1 in the UK and Australia. It got into the top 10 in some European countries also.
Her songs, She's In Love With You, The Race Is On, and Singing With Angels are all great songs worth checking out.
Great Reaction Guys, Lov'n Suzi Q. Next one must be "Your mama won't like me".
And she is still doing it. What a legend.
Love this! Brings back memories of my teenage years. Suzi is a legend and paved the way for female rockers.
