Wheelers At Large are out cycling again this time properly at large and out of area as we're in Manchester riding along the Trans Pennine Trail.
Ended up in Widnes where we recognised a church from one of @FTW1207 videos, then had coffee and breakfast before heading back.
Had a quick chat with @Steve Makin grassupthemiddl...

Very close to my neck of the woods. The Grappenhall part of the trans penn is close to me. Mike you are 100% right about the roundabout being used for boy racers! It's the entrance to a tip and it closed at night. I once came across a a Honda Civic Type R stranded in the middle of the roundabout! The young man on the phone calling for help. Great to see my local bridges getting a Yeehaa! if you do it again it's possible to go over the old Runcorn bridge and come back on the canal for much of the way. Good cycle path on the bridge and a nice view. Note the canal can be muddy and narrow but it is bike legal. I ride it on slicks on my gravel bike even in winter but I am used to it. I often do that as a loop going over the Runcorn bridge! Also the canal in Lymm can be used to add variety on the way back. You went right past the MANU training ground in Partington. Hard to know it is there! PS. Both of those canals run pretty parallel to the trail at those locations. The power station is closed now. Recently two of the towers were knocked down. Lots of people turned out but it was foggy and not a thing was seen! The railway used to supply coal to the station.
Hey Andrew, thanks for the info. It's possible we'll be that way again as we have friends in that part of the world. Cheers for commenting👍
Nice one Mike and Julie. Great to see you venturing out of Dorset. Trails look good. I agree that the width of those gates are a bit constricted for most i would have thought. Well done enjoy your adventures.
Very little chance of a slim person getting through wearing a backpack either, so not ideal for commuting but a relaxing "flat ride" all the same. Next time we might venture into the Peak District (maybe 😂). Cheers Terry👍
The pub at Fiddler's Ferry is nice. I went in there one time after I'd cycled to Lymm from Liverpool and I'd almost run out of water. I went into the pub to ask if they could fill my water bottle up for me and the woman at the bar said "of course, would you like ice in it too?" It was a baking hot day so I was so grateful!
Great to get a friendly reception like that. Cheers for commenting 😁👍
Wow wheelersatlarge venturing further afield, I could bump it to you both one day 😁👍😻
We could pop up anywhere Diane, we are 'At Large' after all. There's a lot to see and many places worth cycling in the UK 👍
Nice to see a cameo appearance by Steve Makin there, long been a fan of his photos and writing.
It's always good riding somewhere new isn't it, especially somewhere very different scenery/architecture wise.
That 5G thing at the end - you saw a Daffodil, I see a toilet brush!
Good ride!
Between you and I, meant to say Dandylion but was still in a food coma from the Full English... Definitely enjoy the different architecture and bridges that are standing up to the tests of time, we don't have any of that around here really. You probably know about them already but check out the German Flak Towers, still standing because the Russians gave up trying to pull them down... Cheers Mick...
@@WheelersAtLarge Oh strewth, those Flak Towers are brutes aren't they! Monstrous great things.
The industrial buildings of the north, all those old mills and so on, are fabulous, I'm just glad a good number survived over the years.
Great vlog Mike and Julie, not road around them trails for a good 2-3 years
Thanks Terry, it was a nice flat route along the canal! 👌
Good morning. This is beautiful.
Thank you for watching and your comment...👍
3:12 hadn't noticed till you mentioned it! 😂😂
🤣Now I really will be in trouble...👍
Nooo! I'm going back in the gym! 🙄
Fair Play Wheeler’s 🚴♂️🚴🏻♀️👍
Another Bostin ride 👍👍👍😎😎
Cheers Peter! 😃👍🚴🏼🚴🏼🚴🏼
The five g daffodil you mentioned was probably supplying the juice to keep the people off the streets it looked empty of humans, all on the phones no doubt. Thanks for the video, there is nothing better for exercise and mental wellbeing than on a bike, in my case emtb, in bed sick at mo thou in iom.
Thanks G Mc!🙂 It was rather an unusual 5 g Tower for sure! Hope you're soon back out on the emtb! Cheers for watching! 👍
Always good to ride away from home..... nice one
There's a lot of places to ride out there, this could become a more regular thing for sure. Cheers Andrew👍
Great vlog 👍
Cheers Chris, hope you're well👍
now that's my kind of ride no doubt - nice one. Julie's kit reminds me of a spiderman (or woman ) costume , big bum and all
Julie loves the skin tight aero kit Mac, even if we're just nipping out to the shops or to see family, a PR opportunity could strike at any moment👍
lol , well Julie has become an inspiration to bicycle riders everywhere and also she is a great ambassador for the sport of cycling
Never considered Manchester as a cycling destination. Now I know why.
There is a bike trail from the centre of Oxford along the Thames to Didcot that is nearer to hone for you.
I always enjoyed the Oxford ring road bike path that completely surrounds Oxford. Well worth a ride. Then of course, go touring around the city and College back lanes following Morse and Inspector Lewis.
Lots of great cycling rural from Oxford to Abingdon, Wantsge, Witney, Harwell, The Ridgeway, Chilton, Wallingford, Henley, etc. lived there. Cycled a lot and TT‘d on the A34.
Always good to ride in different surroundings from time to time. Oxford is on the list as it's approximately 100 miles away so a good day ride and couple of days exploring👍then maybe train home. I rode along side the A34 on the c2c, the dual carriageway bit unfortunately so bloody noisy... Cheers David
Great video,it was lovely to see a bit of up north countryside,it’s not all terraced streets, match stick men walking there whippets with a ferret in the pockets and dark satanic mills anymore tha knows 😂🤣👍
Yes Peter not just whippets😂 we did get the full northern experience when we saw a ferret dart across the road while driving across the Peak District👍👍
buy Julie hornet bike horn for them tunnels let her play a little bit more
That would make people jump, and probably brake the microphone on the camera 😂
How long did it take you?
It was a while ago but I remember we weren't in a hurry and we got back as the schools were kicking out.
😀😀😀😀😀😀🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟✌️🙏
Cheers David 👍
Another great vlog a route I want to do. Lots of 5g towers did you watch out for gout
We did watch out for gout but got caught by the 5g 😂 A pleasant ride, though the Manchester end is pretty mucky when wet, which is probably always...😂
It's sad to see plastic bags like those...
It made no sense Ryan, it was harder to get to the back of the trees there than it was throw them in a bin across the road... Cheers for watching ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
