  • So it's about time I pulled my finger out and went on some longer adventure rides, and take whatever weather the British Spring weather she wants to throw at me. With a 70% chance of rain, Mark and I headed towards Trowbridge to tick off a few Veloviewer tiles for me, and eventually join the Kennet and Avon cycle path at Bradford on Avon and ride all the way back to Bath and on towards the Two tunnels, for 125km/80 miles or so. Armed with my Jelly Beans, we set off in search of an adventure.

You have to love canal paths, I’m heading home to Wales in June and this video has increased my excitement of been able to cycle the Monmouth Brecon canal again, not as grandiose structure wise as the one in the vid, but the scenery is stunning! Can’t wait! 😀

Thanks Spike, I’ll have to look that one up. I did see a nice canal path in Wales near Talybont on Usk once, and I do like a bit of Welsh exploration. Excited to come home? Have you forgot what the weather is like here? 😂

The canal at Talybont is the Mons Brecon an area of great natural beauty, highly recommend a trip to the area you will love it, and I will look forward to the vid. As for the weather currently in NZ we are experiencing a sub tropical cyclone for the last two days and expected to last for a week, and believe me it does not just rain in NZ it is a total deluge. Hence I’m migrating for winter👍

B2B, 2 tunnels, Dundas to Bath on the tow path and then back to Bristol. My favourite ride. Great video Darren.

I just love the interviews you do with Mark 😂… so talkative bless him . Looks like a great day’s ride . 👍🏽🚴🏽‍♂️🚴‍♀️

Thanks Michaela, he was funny and talkative yesterday, just not when I had my camera out!! 😂 it was a beautiful stretch of canal tow path to ride along. So I hope I captured it.

Looks like a fantastic ride / route. A well put together video which I much enjoyed. Keen that you keep them coming, as it's the closest I'll get to riding for the foreseeable whilst the broken ankle repairs. Thanks again!

Thanks Lincoln, I’m glad you liked it. I really enjoyed the ride, it’s a route I’d planned on doing for a while, although that was on the tandem with the wife on another bikepacking adventure along the Kennet and Avon as far as we could. But she’s opted for a stay in one place and ride option instead. Maybe one day! Speedy recovery with the ankle though, that’s not ideal coming into the better weather watching everyone else out riding. So I hope you’re back on your bike in no time.

@@DarrenPhillips thanks, now the tandem gives me a good idea. I’ll have a word with the other half, me on the back 😆

I tried riding on the back, never again! It scared the life out of me aa the missus couldn’t keep the handlebars steady enough! 😵‍💫

Really enjoyable video Darren. Love the canal towpaths and I thought you may need so swim arm bands in a couple of places!
Excellent ride by both of you and great camera work as usual.
As you can probably tell…..I enjoyed it. Stay safe on the roads. 😉👍

Thanks Steve, I enjoyed making it, if you’re referring to the bridges without the barriers, they’re not as scary in person as they look on the video. I do enjoy riding the canal paths.

We took the train to Bath one time and then cycled all the way back to Swindon mostly on the canal - it got brutal after Devizes and if it wasn’t a hot 🥵 day you’d need a full MTD - our suspension forked hybrids were bad enough !! It was a ride that felt like it would never end

Thanks Mark, I might have got myself into trouble if I’d have dragged the wife along it on the tandem!! 😂

Thanks Lewis, I can’t say I know it that well, but I did enjoy the exploring. I was glad to get off the bike at the end, but please I managed the distance without any problems.

Great ride, Darren. Did the tow path from Bradford on Avon to Bath on a Caad10 with 25mm tyres a few years back. Keep up the good work👍

Thanks Paul, yeah, it’s easily done on a road bike, maybe just not as comfortable as fatter tyres would make it. There were a few muddy spots, but after riding the Haldon Heroic, it seemed easy!!

Carding Mill Valley is in Church Stretton near the Long Mynd in Shropshire Darren 😂

I’d been there, which is why it was probably in my head, but Carlingcott Valley was close!!! 😂😂
