I just picked one of these up locally a few months ago. I am a Canon shooter, owning the M50, 5d MkII, R7, and R5. I have to say, the XT1 is my favorite grab and go camera. I recently took it to a wedding in Washington DC, and became a 2nd shooter of sorts. I took all the images in B/W, and the family whose son got married, raved about them.
Keep up the good work, love all your videos on the M50, and more.

I bought an XT-1 about a year ago. It is honestly the best camera that I've ever owned. I also got a reaaly great deal on an XT-3 and 2 Fujifilm lenses. The XT-3 fills the need for great video and also takes great stills. Sometimes I take both cameas for pictures but I alway grab the XT-1 first. The XT-1 is a magical camera.

I had the XT1 and then 'upgraded' to the XT2 because I wanted more of a hybrid Photo/Video camera. For stills, there is something about the X-T1 images that I prefer over the X-T2 and thankfully never sold the X-T1 so have gone back to using it. Paired with the Fuji 23mm 1.4, it produces beautiful images!

I still have my first X-T1 that I bought the day they first hit the market. I replaced the rubber body cover twice (Fuji sent me replacements as the cover falling off was a known issue) I ended up putting leopard spotted duct tape on it instead and it still works just like the day I bought it. I use an X-T3 for 'work' now and have several X-E4 bodies for fun, but the X-T1 is still a fantastic camera that I use when my camera may get beat up. It really is still a brilliant image making machine. :)

Before you revealed the model (X-T1), I knew it was the unit you were talking about. I still have mine. It was the gateway drug into the Fujifilm ecology that has cost me thousands of dollars. (Ahahahahahahaha) Don't get me wrong, I have no regrets about buying Fuji products and I will keep my X-T1 (and use it). And, I agree with you that an individual looking to get into APS-C format photography can do no better than pick up a nice X-T1 and a selection of primes.
The kit lens (18-55mm f/2.8-4???) that came with mine is actually very good. It has stabilization, a useful set of focal lengths, and is relatively fast for a kit lens. (They are also not cheap on the used market.)
I used to obsess over sharpness and MTF of my lenses. Now I find myself buying vintage glass because I prefer the less clinical look for much of my photography. I notice that the best vintage glass is getting expensive because a lot of other photographers (and videographers) are buying up the supply because they produce such nice images.
    Now back to your video.
Arrrgggghhhhh... I can tell you're gong to cost me some money! I'll have to pick up some of the recommended lenses from your list.
I have the Fujinon 35mm f/1.4 in my bag right now. Although the newer (more expensive) 33mm f/1.4 is a great lens, I like the IQ of the older lens. I have read, but not confirmed, that it is based on the Sonnar formula and the results seem to confirm that.
I would also recommend the Fujinon f/2 lenses. They are small, less expensive, relatively fast, and produce lovely images. They are also autofocus. The new 27mm f/2.8 has an aperture ring and is weather sealed! Of course, they cost more although I still consider them budget lenses (for Fujinon glass).
    Great video... thanks!

When I use a manual focus lens…. I shoot black and white JPEG and RAF. B&W JPEG allows a B&W viewfinder and combine that with focus peaking in red. Great contrast preview and red focus peaking showing me whats focus at a glance. Of course I can edit the RAF files. Also up the grain because Fujifilm does a great job with the film grain.

I used to shoot with Fuji, I used X-E1/2, X-T10/20, X-T1/2. They were ok cameras, but weren't really that great, so I just dropped Fuji and was shooting with FF Sony and Nikon cameras. Nikon Z cameras are really great, love them, but they are bigger/heavier. I always wanted a smaller body for travel, so was keeping an eye on Fuji. That was until Sony came up with A7C and later with A7Cii/A7Cr. Those Sony cameras basically made all APS-C cameras, including Fuji (especially taking into account that Fuji still can't really make a good AF), totally unnecessary.

    • @SFxAce
      @SFxAce 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@USGrant21st Glad you found the camera that works for you. All cameras have compromises, and I am told the Sony’s are too clinical, need to dive into menus to make some changes other cameras have dials for, and yes have fabulous autofocus, dynamic range etc etc. I have two Fuji’s - older models and these are more than adequate and have a great colour science and look to the images. I also like older Canon bodies like 5D Classic and Canon 6D and these cameras shoot great stills and have great colours too. If I was more into video and needed crazy megapixels I’d maybe consider a Sony, but not my area of interest. It is great today we are spoilt for choice with newer cameras, but ones even from 10 to 15 years ago still hold their own if you know how to shoot with them.

Short story, I remember the Fujifilm X-T1 was what made me fall in love with the proper mirrorless cameras. Because back then, my father had a Nikon d300 which I would use to practice street photography back in 2016, I was only like 16 years old at that time. Now when Fujifilm announced the X-T1, I was stoked and amazed at how beautiful the camera looked. It looked so timeless (both old and modern at the same time).
And then they released the X-T2, I was more excited because I literally couldn't stop thinking about the camera up until today =) there comes a time where I would ask my parents yearly if they could give me one because the Nikon d300 isn't getting any younger but they couldn't since it's out of their budget. Fast forward to 2023, I finally graduated college last 2021 and managed to save up money and buy the X-T2 paired with the 35mm f2 and 7artisans 25mm f1.8. I guess the breaking point for me was because film rolls are getting more expensive that time compared to when I was shooting film last 2019. Going back, It is still one of my best purchases ever, and the X-T1 and 2 are still so powerful as photography cameras up to date. I never do video at all so I'm super duper satisfied even though the X-T2 is old now. Anyways, I think that cameras don't age as fast as smartphones which I'm totally glad. I plan to stay with the X-T2 maybe for 5-7 or maybe 10 years more if I can, I'm still justifying if I can upgrade to more recent Fuji cameras. I just love this camera so much, I feel like my inner child is so happy since I longed for it dearly.

I am a huge fan of the X-T1 (and X-T10) cameras. Those two models are currently the best value for money in the system. Like you I really appreciate the focus assist button on the X-T1. I primarily use my X-T1's for manual focus and the X-T10's for AF (with a bit of crossover now and again). The X-T10 has better AF performance. Ergonomically I find the X-T1 almost perfect. It works for me either with a base plate like yours or with the battery grip. The later cameras unfortunately for my taste put on a bit too much size and weight. I have just two ergonomic criticisms. The drive mode is too easy to knock out of place and the rubber covering has a tendency to lift and peel. The 16mp sensor is more than plenty for almost anything except large amounts of cropping and produces nicer looking images IMO than the later ones.
A sensible choice of lenses recommended here. I would also consider the TTartisans 25mm and 50mm f2 pancake lenses. I would question though whether that TTarisans 35mm f1.8 is the best budget AF choice as the XC 35mm f2 can be had for much the same money, does not flare and is a touch lighter or a used XF WR version will not cost much more. A word or two on the 27mm f2.8. I find it better than Fuji's own, especially when it comes down to handling and AF. Yes, it vignettes a bit but if you remove the hood less so. The front element is already well recessed so you don't really need it for protection. Don't throw it away though as it fits on the TTartisans 35mm f1.4 very well, protects the front element, cuts out flare and barely changes the profile of the lens. As my copy is a slightly different shade to the lens, it provides a really nice aesthetic touch to the lens's appearance.

A fabulous camera. For some reason I sold mine a while back and very quickly regretted it. I couldn't get hold of another X-T1 at a reasonable price, but found a barely used (almost new old stock) X-T2 for a great price. I do think the small upgrades are worth it (I could have bought an X-T3 or 4 at the time, but honestly couldn't see the value in going further up the chain). I have a few cameras and some of them are better for some purposes (particularly fast action) but the Fujifilm is still my favourite. Just a beautiful camera with a beautiful output.

This was the camera that I took the leap from point-and-shoot cameras (Canon G12, Lumix LX3) to interchangeable lens cameras about 3 years ago. With my priorities being budget and being able to photograph my kids(sports, vacations, etc.) it came down to the Lumix G85 until I saw one video that compared the XT20 and the Lumix G85. That video got me interested in Fujifilm enough that I ended up getting a used XT1 with the awesome XF 18-55mm kit lens for just under $600. I liked it so much that I bought an X70 and an XA2(Bayer sensor) well before Fuji prices skyrocketed. I eventually bought an new/unused Lumix G85 for cheap and am happy I did but I would still be happy if the XT1 was my only camera. Great video and thanks for the lens comparisons/reviews. I have been eyeing those TTartisans but wasn't sure where to start.

Very nice that you're recomanding "old" cameras that are still woth buying. Would be good though to mention that the Fuji recomendet has not a 24mp but a 16mp censor. And even more important that it has a MFT censor what especially comes into play with the lenses you`re recomending. At least these informations about the camera I got opening the link on ebay you have in the description. Think it would be usefull for buyers to have a more complete image about what they're going into... All the best and greetings

@@viencafeoh on the pricing, I actually misspoke. I had been looking at another model the E-t10 and that was twice as much as the xt1. When I looked now and the prices have gone up it's crazy they're close to a thousand bucks in Canada for the xt2 (on eBay) any xt-1 is about $800 or so by comparison. So 25% more I guess, the extra features and I was more interested in the x-trans sensor II which is in the xt2 rather than the original sensor in the xt1.

As a hybrid photo/video shooter I use X-T3, and I have quite some issues with auto focus in photography, in video it's just fine for my usage. Maybe it's down to the probably faulty unit of my 18-55 lens, idk. Also I had shutter release issues, turned out that there was a flex cable of shutter button damage or something, but gladly it was on warranty. I'm pretty unlucky when buying some tech stuff sometimes ;c
upd. I also recommend Capture One with x-trans files, Lightroom rendering is just doesn't work imo with these files

Continous AF performance was never that good (when it launched it was nearly unusable, it needed some big fw updates to be formidable. The A6000 came out at the same time and it's way stronger in that regard (andd in video as well)

Yes it is much slower to AF than new gen Sony bodies but overall I liked my XT-1. Nailed more in focus shots using 56mm f1.2 compared to 85L on 5dmk3. Still have it but now I shoot with GFX.

I’ve shot weddings on the x-t3 and this is a stunning all round body. But now I’ve borrowed the x-t5 from Fuji I am blown away by the focus capabilities. Also, I like I
IBIS for using old Russian lenses so for me the -xt5 is the best all-rounder and I no longer need two bodies: the X-H1 can go..

    i use the ttartisans, 17,23,35.
personally, i recommend the 23mm the most for its design, size. it weights abit heavier than the 35mm on camera. also the extra wide angle allow you to have more shooting angle.
the 35mm is the sharpest among all, great image and great details. The 17mm, however is the weakest among all despite having 17mm. even if i stop down to f4, you can see harsh lighting and least sharpness compare to 23 & 35mm.
have yet to get the 27mm f2.8 but planning to get soon.
am skipping the AF 35 1.8 (since i dont like 35mm focal length tbh) and skipping the 50mm f1.2 as well (since i am using sigma 56mm)

I would add the Fuji XC 35 f2 (for around 170€ in Europe) as a very good and inexpensive AF recommendation instead of the yet unreleased TTArtisan 35 f1.8 (lens 6). The Fuji is lighter, smaller and has a much narrower minimum focus distance of 35cm instead of 60cm.
A few months ago, I switched from a Nikon D7200 to a used Fuji X-T20 and was very lucky to get a defective one for just 180€. The internal buffer battery is dead, so it loses all settings when the battery is removed. But I can live with charging the camera via USB cable. Together with a new XC 35 f2 I got a great starter kit for just 350€. 😁 And with an inexpensive Nikon - Fuji adapter I can use my vintage Nikon lenses (105 f2.5, 50 1.8, Micro 55 3.5).

In my opinion, if you are going to get a 35mm F1.4, I would pick the Fuji one, yes it's 3 times the price of the TTArtisan one but you will have a much better time with it and it's overall an excellent lens to keep should you ever decide to invest moire into the Fuji X mount lenses line-up.
Sames goes for the 27mm, if the idea is to go stealthy, the Fuji is smaller and a lot less prone to vigneting full open, unlike the TTArtisan where you ideally prefer to start shooting at F4, but at almost 3 times the price difference I can understand why the cheaper option is more appealing but the Fuji one is also Weather Resistant, so more forgiving too use under light rain.
I have had my X-T1 since the release back in 2014 and while I really love that camera it's slowly showing its age, I will be upgrading toward the X-T5 that finally give me a reason to move up in the body, the IBIS is a feature I have always wanted to have as I shoot with a lot of legacy lenses (Super Takumar 105mm F2.8, Helios 44-2 58mm F2, ...) and those lenses could really use the extra stabilisation.
Funny how the Auto focus was one of you positive point of the camera when it was maybe one of its most glaring weakness back in the days, Fuji had to release several FW update to correct the issues with it. Nowadays, it's all fine if your subject is mostly immobile or move less than a brisk walk.
Another point of attention, anything higher 6400 iso get really noisy and the X-Trans is more complicated to de-noise than the classical Canikony bodies. Most image editing software have made league of progress compared to back in 2014 but X-Trans still remain a "non standard" sensor and is known to be a bit more finicky to adjust your raws in some fringe circumstances.

honestly for the speed and usability it is well worth speeding a little more to get a xt3 or 4, or even a xh1. they are going to be way faster to focus, have more features including usable video, have more options for film sims and effect like film grain and black and white filter options, more buffer space for continuous shooting, faster write speeds to cards, and in the h1's case a way better feeling grip for larger hand. but the biggest reason i would not recommend anyone by a xt1 in 2024 is parts availability. The brand really did not start pushing numbers till the xt2, meaning there are way less xt1s and xt1 parts in the world for when they break down. I can tell you from experience that new parts are very rare and replenished parts are getting harder and harder to find. Most repair will end with fuji offering to replace the camera with a t3 or 4 at this point, because even if they do have a part, it is going to be more to repair than you paid for the camera. This is based on the North America region, you might live in a zone where more bodies sold than here or there is a lower demand for parts. I know i always loved the feel of the h1 over most of the t series cameras, but i also have huge hands. honestly from some one that handles a lot of fuji cameras, i think the best deal right now is the xs20 and the 18mm 1,4. just a great walk around combo with an amazing hand feel for its size and a jam packed feature set. it really ends up feeling like a xh2s for half the price and half the weight.

There's a lot good about it but there were still major problems. The focussing just wasn't fast enough for people, despite many revisions. They were a good four years behind Sony. It's notable that you chose so many manual lenses.
It suffered under strong light and would sometimes produce images that looked like HDR. On the good side, the ergonomics were great. The first good Fuji was the X-Pro2 although the X-Pro1 had charm. Raw editors struggled with Fuji files until the higher resolution models at 24mp came out.
