    Wet Hair???
    I've been seeing a lot of comments about how wet my hair was (or was not). I followed the steps dyson suggests (as you can see in this video th-cam.com/video/7qKdB2fgd3w/w-d-xo.html) and my hair was as damp as the guide suggested.
    I have noticed over the years doing my hair on camera that it does look dryer on camera than it feels to the touch, which I think is the confusion here. I would not have posted this review had I not been sure that I followed the directions correctly.
    Additionally, as I was going through there were sections that were wetter (some were very wet still) than others and I made sure to look and see if the results from those sections were any better. I didn't notice any appreciable difference on my hair.
    Just remember that I *wanted* this to work and I gave it every chance I could. I am curious now what the results would have been if I left my hair totally wet or at least very damp, but I feel like that would have taken my whole life to do! I was already doin 45 seconds to a minute on each curl and spending 45 minutes total. What would it have been if my hair was all the way wet?? And like I said, I didn't notice any appreciable difference between wetter sections and dryer sections.
    I hope that clears things up!!

      Kayley Melissa you just wasted $550, of course you’ll want it to work. Also, don’t blame yourself for something not working, especially when you’ve done your research.

      I think this item is best suited for people who are a beginner to novice at styling their hair. I also think that it has a big learning curve especially when you are well adapted to using traditional styling tools. I personally still plan on purchasing it when it comes back in stock. I have a lot of long hair finish hair that is very hard to style. I’m hoping that this tool will help me with my styling as I can cool shot it directly after the heating it done. My hair is so heavy it normally weighs down the curls before they cool even if I pin them. Plus pinning them typically results in odd crimps I’m my curls.

    I just bought one and tried it for the first time and am in love. It took less than 30 seconds per curl, it holds etc. I have fine fine hair and I love it, however it is hard to do the back. My curls stayed as well however I used the cool shot and left the curl alone until my whole head was done x

      Try pinning the curls up and wait half an hour before taking them down. A couple of minutes before you take them down use a strong hold hairspray. If this doesn't work I don't know what will.

    • @Maddyline1998
      @Maddyline1998 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Angie I usually curl my hair at night and pin them up and let them set overnight, then I take them out in the morning. So it’s about 9 hours of cooling time. I also use a lot of texturizing and volumizing product in addition to the hairspray because that is the only way I can add longevity. I get the best results with a flat iron and the worst with wet-to-dry methods or a curling iron/wand.

    I've seen many TH-camrs give not so great reviews on this product. Yours was the most thorough though.

  • @janarm8721
    @janarm8721 6 ปีที่แล้ว +312

    I'm actually really happy with it, but after seeing tons of reviews I've come to the conclusion that the results depend A LOT on the hair type and length. I have super fine and dry hair because of many years of bleachig and dying it, to the point that I need to use the flat iron every day so I don't look like I've been electrocuted or something. I mean, the frizz is very real with my hair (besides there's a lot of humidity in my city, so it just goes crazy). I was very interested in this product because it promised a smooth result without so much heat therefore less hair damage.
    And for me, it delivers. It really does. My hair looks smooth, kind of shiny and is really soft, besides it gives me more volume, which I appreciate having such fine hair. Of course it doesn't look as flat as it does when I use the iron, but I'm ok with it because I get the volume instead and way less heat (I use the medium setting).
    As for the wraps, I wasn't really interested in them becsuse I've never been a fan of curly hair for me, and my hair can't hold a curl to save its life, not even when it's done by a professional, it just falls down after a little while. But of course I tried the wraps out of curiosity (and because I spent 500€) and, even if it took 60 minutes to do my whole head, I was really impressed. It did curl my hair A LOT and it stayed that way. I was hoping it would fall a little so I'd get a wavy look, but it stayed curled. The bottom layers were the ones that lost most of the shape. I have to say though that I used a little of hairspray, but as I mentioned before, ever when a hairdresser does it my curls fall down.
    So my experience overall is extremely positive, it straightens my hair, it gives volume, it doesn't give me frizz, my hair is soft, and if I care enough to give it the time, it curls my hair (not that I'm going to do it very often).
    So, as I said, I think hair type and length play a decisive part in wether this works or not. In my case it does. If it helps anyone, I have bleached, dyed, fine, dry and frizzy hair, and my longest layers go more or less to my chest, and the shortest somewhere between my jaw and my shoulders.

    I know I’ve already commented on this video, but I just have to say.. I’ve seen other people review this and enjoy the results, but they are not hair stylists. They do not do hair on a regular basis. I really appreciate the fact that you do reviews on products, because you’ve done hair enough to know what works and what doesn’t. Thank you for that. I would never even consider buying this product, but I still love watching because you just make so much since in explaining! You take time to actually show that not only do you care about hair, but you also care about the person watching your videos. This world needs more people like you!

  • @divorceguru
    @divorceguru 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Thanks for your honest review! My experience was different but I definitely see using it that it might not work well for everyone. I get really shiny smooth hair and I have thick curly hair, but I can see that I handle the roundbrush differently than you were. I can't really explain it, but I kind of smooth the hair over the roundbrush by kind of rolling the hair around is at the root and then going down the hair section. I definitely think the curlers are better in theory. They work for me, but they take longer than just using my ghd to create curls. I will say that I get better results with wetter hair than is stricly recommended. Your hair looked quite dry in the video, so that might be part of the problem. But your right than it's not faster or better than a curling iron. Personally, I just really love the round brush because I have no talent roundbrushing with a standard hair dryer and I find I get much better results than with cheaper versions of the roundbrush dryer stylers that I have tried in the past. That's my 2 cents but I really enjoyed your video and totally felt for you! Thanks for sharing

    • @natpetheri6214
      @natpetheri6214 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Alexys07 06 I just pointed out the need to research before making ignorant comments 🤦🏽‍♀️😂 Dyson spent over £24million, 6years, and 630 prototypes of the Airwrap. There was PLENTY of testing, in fact the most in this category of hair appliances on the market.

    • @cymothoa.exigua
      @cymothoa.exigua 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Nat Petheri Firstly, if you’re claiming something, I shouldn’t have to research it, as you should have enough backing evidence. Anyways, 6 years and a load of money does not equal a ton of testing. It only means that they spent time and money on it. Time and money DOES NOT equal quality, got that? Perhaps, even if they did test it, the tests were flawed, or they didn’t relay adequate information for dyson to be able to write instructions good enough for people to understand.

    • @natpetheri6214
      @natpetheri6214 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Alexys07 06 😂 you didn’t adress the hundreds of prototypes, darl. As as for the supposed ‘backing’ I should provide, why should I? This isn’t an academic assessment, the information is freely available if you’re not wanting to look like a tool who doesn’t know what they’re talking about 🤷🏽‍♀️ Money and time can and do equal quality, money wasn’t an expense to make sure that the product (just like their other products which have made them the leaders). As for instructions, you strike me as the type of person who’d need instructions to operate a traditional curling wand. If you’ve tried it and it’s not for you that’s fine. It’s not going to win everyone. But they tested it, they actually tested the shite out of it. That’s a fact.

    Hey Kayley!! I just wanted to say that I finally bought the Dyson airwrap after coveting it since it’s release and I’ve had success with it!! I just want to put my two cents in on a few things I’ve noticed from your video. First I think now that you have shorter hair you should give it another shot. The tool works best on medium length hair! I think Dyson made the barrel shorter because the body of the tool is already so freakishly long but it just can’t hold that much hair. They did release longer barrels FYI. Also I noticed in the video you added products for heat protectant and smoothing but nothing for hold. I used the Dyson on my perfectly clean hair and the curls fell fast but when I apply a mouse the curls lasted much longer! I also added a little hairspray as well. They still relax but I prefer the wavy blow out look! It’s so glamorous and soft. I know mouse sounds old school but trust me products have come a long way. I recommend the living proof thickening mouse! I am seriously in love with my Dyson and I get better results with it than I did with my curling iron. I put all my other old hair tools in storage after my Dyson arrived, seriously. Also I’m obsessed with how time saving it is and the lower heat required. I know the price is crazy and the Dyson is certainly not a necessary item but Im super happy with it!

    You better not get ANY hate comments from this product failing for you! Every TH-camr I have seen review this, and not like it, has gotten hate comments telling them how they must have not used it right. 🙄 just like you said, you know what you're doing.. PLUS you used it exactly how Dyson said to, and gave it so many chances AND you tried doing different techniques. It's not worth the $500-$600 in any way. I'd much rather spend $100 all together for a hair dryer & a curling iron!

      Amanda Wilb88 I bought the Airwrap and for me, using it right didn't help. I had no problems with a "learning curve" or anything. I applied common sense and it worked just fine but the styles do not hold. My hair is hard to curl, which meant the Airwrap styles were lasting about half an hour. I even used the curling barrel to do pin curls and let them cool more fully before taking them down but still no lasting results.

    There have been many comments against the airwrap but a lot depends on type of hair. I use it and am very pleased by the results but I am reminded of my youth. I was a teenager when razor cutting and blow drying came in. Just before that there was one day when my friend and I had a shampoo and set before going out for the day. It was a damp day. During the day my hair became tighter into the shape of the rollers but my friend’s hair just drooped as if nothing had ben done to it.

    I really like your review on this product. Seems super genuine and like how you tried it over a week in different ways.
    I bought one a few weeks ago and love it. I’m not a hair stylist or guru- In fact I’m a motorcycle mechanic- and before this product I only owned a hair dryer that I only ever used on my fringe.
    I found this product super easy for myself to use. I loved the results I managed to get compared to my usual air dried hair. I think this product is great for people with next to no coordination or people who may not know that much about hair tools. It comes with everything.
    Anyway, love how everyone is having different experiences with this tool. At least we do all agree on the crazy cost of it!

    That is disappointing for you to put in so much effort for those poor results. It seems pretty obvious to me that this is not designed with long hair in mind. The curl attachments looked so short as you were wrapping your hair around it. Maybe it only works really well for shorter hair. But I agree, at that price it should not have those limitations or if it’s aimed at a certain hair length they should damn well make that clear.

    Question just because in the clips with the Dyson you touched your hair ALOT!!! Which really does make straight hair drop curl and frizz.
    With your regular routine, did you keep touching alot over and over? Even at the one hour mark you barely touched your hair!!!
    I'm a hair toucher, so I just want to know if that might be a factor!!
    Thank you though!!! It was really fantastic to see!! Your honest opinion is appreciated!!!

    She’s not using this properly, go on the Dyson site and watch their videos. Also if you’re going to put curls in your hair why are you basically brushing them out and think the curl will still stay. I own one and love it, I have shoulder length hair and it’s thick. I’d say try for yourself and if it’s not for you return it.

    Here I go with comment number 390, so this will get read like never BUT - the Coandă effect is not a Dyson invention. This principle was named after Romanian aerodynamics pioneer Henri Coandă, who was the first to recognize the practical application of the phenomenon in aircraft development. He first experimented with it back in the 1920-30s, and he got it patented in France back in 1934.
    On another note, thank you for your educative videos :) as I recently enrolled in beauty school, I appreciate them even more.

      My thoughts exactly... and the barrels don't have 6 fans either... just 6 openings from where the airflow comes out. And I really think the problem is that the instructions don't mention anything but to have damp hair, I really think all those products might have been the reason why she wasn't having the expected results.

    It works perfectly for me, and I have thick unruly hair. The hair needs to be wet!!! And then you need to leave the curl until it’s completely cool before touching it at all, takes like five minutes. Mist lightly with hairspray and loosen up the curls. Perfect result! The round brush is for a natural blow out, not making curls. With the brushes, my hair gets straight and shiny.

    I appreciate your honest and week long trial. I have long hair too. If it is going to take this long for such a frustrating result, it’s a waste of money and time. It really needs more work to improve the product. As you pointed = out 4 inches on the curler and brush is not long enough for thick long hair. The hair dryer part is probably the best. I just bought one, and will be returning it after watching your video I’m not even going to bother opening it and trying it. I will just keep going to my hairdresser. At least I know I’ll get the result I want and can read at the same time while I’m there. Ihope Dyson have listened to your feedback and make these improvements. If they incorporate those ideas you have suggested I might buy one again. But it needs a lot of work. Thank you. 👏⭐️

      i don't think people are trying to "justify" the price tag. nowadays most people seem to prefer lower price items and justifying their (sometimes bad) quality with low price tag, e.g. "it's not great but it only costs like $10". i think people are just trying to justify the novice of it - it is very unique product and people are just trying to get on board and seem "cool" and "technologically advanced".

I am sure there will be others who are prepared to speak up for this product but I can only speak from my own experience which mirrored every single point that Kayley makes here. Like you Kayley, I purchased the Airwrap myself so I wasn't going to give up on it easily. I tried again and again. I spent hours and hours repeating the process, watching tutorials, even asking Dyson for help. I cannot stress how much I regret buying this product. Hate is a strong word but...
    When I fed back my experience to Dyson (UK) and asked for advice on how to use the product better, they were not even remotely interested. That alone should tell you all you need to know. Please do not do what I did. Please take reviews with a pinch of salt and do not buy unless you have the opportunity to try it for a reasonable amount of time first. Hope this helps someone out there not to make the mistake I did.

    Personally loving the product but it does have quite a steep learning curve. It took me about 4-5 uses before I could get a nice curl from it that would stay.
    Something I didn’t see you do, that’s very important for my hair, is cool it down with the cooling setting. You cool it while the hair is still on the wand and that’s what sets it. That’s what makes your curls stay in the hair, I can go for days with just one dyson session now and the curls will stay.

    I thoroughly recommend this Dyson airwrap I know its alot of money leaves your hair in excellent condition the rolls Royce of a hair dryer, I would never go back to a boring old hair dryer and brush to dry your hair . It's so quick and easy to use sensational. Thank you Dyson.
