Where is part 3? Everyone in the comments is talking as if this is how the show ended. Yes it did get cancelled, but this wasn't the point where it ended.
Ethan blows himself up in the elevator to save the residents. 3 years later, his body among others are hanging up and branded as traitors. WTF happened there?
He committed multiple reckless mistakes. First telling his wife about the truth without ensuring she can handle it. Then failing to execute his lover while she was the leader of a terrorist organization. The reckless group is an understatement.
No no no. Promising premise, interesting setup, but no real payoff. Thank you for this. Saved me from wasting hours of viewing time. Could’ve been Lost all over again though not nearly as hopeless of a plot. Am I the only one who thinks that telling everyone the truth would’ve been better from the start?
The founder stated the 1st peoples were told the truth and self terminated over the facts of the truth, dang can't even follow along with the recap?? 😮
Actually it was a good show, and worth watching. The benefit of watching something after it's done is that you don't have to wait week by week for the episodes to come out, meaning it doesn't get dragged out like shows are on first watching. This is the second group of people they woke. The first group of people lost their minds when they realized that they couldn't go back to their world (because they were totally honest with them). Young people were able to take it better because they weren't as attached to the world they knew. You miss out a lot of details when you only watch the summary. Most of the people there were kidnapped and did not leave their lives by choice, because not too many people believed him, and even if he was right it wouldn't matter to them what humans become in two thousand years. So they were not happy to wake up to this nightmare. You can't really say there is no pay off. This video didn't show you the end of the show. It keeps going. There's got to be a part 3 (or maybe he didn't bother finishing the show, but this is not the ending).
If there are volunteers who know the whole secret and are ok with it, why couldn't they just be the townspeople? They are skilled at creating everything needed, and they won't kill themselves. Why are they just making resources for thw others?
Im a delivery guy. My first thought went to “where are they getting all this food supply for restaurants”… and “materials for stores”… like ok. Its the only town left right? Where are the supplies coming from.

SPOILERS: Its so frustrating that once we think the oppression will end and the towns people have been saved, only 3 years later they are under even more extreme than before oppression. David was a jerk but at least he wasn't as sick and twisted as the first generation students who strung up the heroes who saved them in the first place. Ethan saved them all from the abbys by blowing himself up along with them and the thanks he gets is his corpse being hung up. This would've been a perfect series to have a third season and finally end the oppression of the towns people once and for all. Too bad it got canceled. It was a decent story and show.
I think the lesson is that some things are inevitable and that ultimately humanity is as eager to oppress as it be to be oppressed in the name of conformity. Even now, we (USA) struggle to retain our democracy in a country that fought for independence, because half the country now embraces the idea of autocracy.
No, David is a monster. It's the ending that doesn't make sense. They could have shown that its still oppressive - but with different ideas and ideals. But they just showed it as for some reason, people liked David.
I really wish these series would to a story arc that lasts a set number of seasons. Two to five seasons and it's over. A story with a beginning, a middle and an ending. All the loose ends tied up. Wasn't it Battlestar Galactica that had a 5 season story arc? I quit watching series tv because I was sick of finding a unique new series only to have it cancelled before any mysteries were solved. I would be far more likely to watch a new series if I knew it was a 2 or 3 season story and then it's over. The cast in this is outstanding. Toby Jones and Melissa Leo. Such familiar faces for so long.
24 was probably the last series that I watched. The rest have been disappointing 😞. With the exception of Heros. But they never made Hero Nakamura live up to his potential. It wasn't the same after the writer's strike either.
Ditto! Many thanks for the recap. Like the other comments in this sub-comment, I also stopped watching series back in the days of Galactica, and Heroes. Babylon 5 was the other truly properly planned series, we were promised and delivered a full series. Episode arcs, season arcs, and stories developed over the entire series. The more common tv show format would deliver Lord of the Rings Parts 1 & 2 and then cancel 3. We don't trust them anymore! They poisoned their own marketing chalice, there was probably a few things worth watching in the past 15 years, but as this recap shows (worth a 30min recap), but not worth hours of viewing to be abandoned yet again by the marketing departments.
So you mean to tell me that you couldn't just tell these adults that there were creatures outside that would kill them quickly and easily because they just couldn't except it? I call B.S. do you see how easily everyone accepted it when the saw the survivor videos? So you kept it a secret and deceivably mysterious so that no one trusted you therefore leading to an unnecessary revolt and everyone dying except the brainwashed kids. Yup glad I don't invest my time in most series.
yeah doesn't make sense the kids accepted it easily and all those volunteers that were suppling the town were fine with it....why not anyone that had issue with living a "normal" lie of a life just volunteer to go out and kill the monsters? they had security teams and hell the sheriff's office had MP5s? like if you didn't trust the adults in town why would anyone think making their kids culty and having public executions in the streets be a good idea and TOTALLY not make the adults you don't trust revolt or plot something? Maybe it's just the hubris of the "savior" to have everything under his control which loses his control over everything i guess
Thank you. I kept saying that throughout this whole thing. Just tell them. If they don't believe you then let them go. It's not that hard. Then a bunch of kids took over the place... nah.
