      Lotus or Chinese Geely? China are slowly hollowing out western companies and jobs. They cannot get traction with their own brands so they use western brands against us. This hollowing out will eventually empty out every single sector as they move all industries in house to China. Lotus knowledge will be sucked out and moved to China. The staff in the UK will be used and tossed aside. By buying a Chinese car, unlike any other purchase, you are directly supporting a Chinese Communist Party owned company. All car companies in China are directly or indirectly owned by the CCP. You are supporting CCP design, technology, and engineering. China are a self proclaimed enemy of western democracy and free people, that may sound like hyperbole but it is manifestly true. They are a communist/totalitarian regime. Partnership is not a part of their thinking process. It is the cover they use to slowly dismember western economies. They do not want partnership they want control and ownership. This is and will increasingly bleed in to political control and eventually erosion of western freedoms. China simply cannot allow freedom of thought or speech, it is not only antithetical but an existential threat to their regime. They need to extinguish freedom in as many places as possible. It is an innate need for all empires/civilisations to spread their model.
      We are walking ourselves in to totalitarian control. If you think it seems too far fetched then you need to think deeper and harder. If you think this process will be benign, you are wrong. China will slowly tighten their grip on democracy, it is already starting to happen, they constantly require other nations to limit their speech. On the current course, in the not too distant future, your government will be controlled by China, directly or indirectly, you will not be allowed to change your government, and your government will impose every single decision handed down by China. You will not be able to protest or question these decisions. You and your children will grow up without any freedom for the rest of your/their lives.
      As one example China forcibly sterilised and aborted their own women in the 80's, dragged them in to horrific surgeries, now the Uyghurs are being subjected to the same treatment.

      On this occasion, I think Mat Watson did a better job, but Mat didn't say it was made in China, let alone Wuhan. However, Rory has certainly established himself as one of the very best reviewers, and I now watch and enjoy most of his reviews. He is also one of the most, if not the most, insightful reviewers. He's surprisingly practical and he's not a brand snob. He still understands that most people struggle to buy new cars, which most reviwers seem to have forgotten. So, yeah, I appreciate him very much.

      Same here. Honestly, sports car manufacturers have the *most* reason to make SUV's. It's difficult to make a profit in their usual segment and this is too good an opportunity for them to miss out on.

    Design wise, I can somehow see that every "supersport SUV" will have a similar structure to the front : Cayenne, Urus, Eletre, Purosangue (from what the teaser let us see)...and even XM all have that three-levelled face with the more recent ones choosing to put their main headlights in the middle 🤔
    This one looks really big (I would say "over E-SUV" where are the X5 and GLE)...and 400 litres seem too few
    But we'll see how the Eletre stacks against its competition when it will hit the road, and we're all confident that it will be awesome 🤩

    SUVs aren’t my favourite kind of car, but wow, this looks really good, from the side and the rear, very sporty profile. Front, I’m not so sure. It has the SUV proportions, but it’s only 13cm taller than an Audi RS6. That’s a good sign for driving dynamics. I’d love to know the vehicle weight. I hope it’s lighter than it’s many rivals, cause combined with that relatively low body, it will offer that typical Lotus sports car feel. I’d like to see them produce a smaller battery version, cause not everyone needs 348 miles of range and it will make the Eletre even lighter and more efficient. Now Lotus is owned by Geely in China, this kind of thing was always going to happen, Eletre will be Geely pushing premium products in China. I don’t see this selling as well outside China.

    Great video. I think this is a beautiful vehicle...but am I crazy for thinking the Kia EV6 looks as good, if not better? Personally, like the edgy, futuristic styling of the Kia and this Lotus looks just a bit to generic and like many other SUVs out there. I bet the tech in the Kia is probably better too and I'd be surprised if the Lotus had a 7 year warranty.

    I like the car a lot. It looks amazing, sporty and premium inside out. But ive got one question: Why Lotus? This car definitely stunning but, and I disagree heavily with you Rory, it is definitely not a Lotus! Lotus are the light-weight sportscars that outperform a Lamborghini that costs three times the Lotus, they are the cars which need an extra steering and the cars where the AC doesnt work as soon as the temperature is above freezing point. I appreciate the up in quality which the Emira brings but...come on, look at the Eletre...what is that? Its too big, too chunky and it is too premium and therefor will be too expensive. And its an SUV, for gods sake. It is everything but a Lotus!

      @shaboiisaiah 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      i agree with you, however i think a vehicle like this is necessary in order to continue selling the “standard Lotus” we might be accustomed to future generations. (See Porsche creating the Cayenne to save their 911s)

    When you notice this car looks way to much like the lambo Urus concept, but then remember that lotus is now owned by the Chinese…. And we all know how much they love original designs.

    • @TD1237
      @TD1237 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lotus is *owned* by them but remain largely independent in a "Lotus Group". The same applies to Volvo and Polestar. Geely is directly involved with Lync and Co and other Chinese brands (and is grouped with Proton and Smart). Plus, I believe it was a British guy that designed this car, so any 'copying' is all on Lotus' team (not that I'd call this copying but I do see the similarities).

And there's 2 more models coming apparently so can't wait to see them hopefully at a more affordable price point. I've always hankered after a Lotus but was put off by their reliability issues, so maybe the electric revolution will produce solid reliable and attractive Lotus' - let's hope so.
