    Just finished my install, it took the whole day but this video has been my main reference! Thank you so much for the guide! some tips for others:
    -you don’t need to remove the seat at all, i have a bigger amp than the one in this video and it fit by sliding the seat forward to place it. wiring the amp is harder though.
    -look up video on removing radio, it’s super simple
    -if you get stuck, work on something else, and come back later
    -you can research and ask questions as much as you want but eventually you j gotta try it yourself

    Hey Chris,
    Loved the vid and I'm looking to do similar. Question though, regarding the component speakers.
    I've read the head unit is underpowered and therefore people have run amps to power the component speakers.
    How would you tackle this?
    Using a different channel on the sub amp, you could attach the fronts for example. But how would you power up the rear components without losing the fade function the head unit provides? Does this require a secondary amp?

    • @progshark
      @progshark 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Look up breakout harnesses. They go between the factory harness and the stock radio giving you a place to splice without cutting factory wires. You still get high volume signal attenuation. But unless you are wanting to go deaf, you can make it plenty loud.

    I just came across this video. I like the tips on where and how to run the wiring, but I'm horrified that this setup was done without upgrading the negative lead from the chassis to the battery. In the video, it shows you're still using the 10ga (?) wire. Just curious after the number of years this video has been up, has the driver burned through that wire yet?

  • @michaelacookePDX

    I found your video searching for the best way to route power through the firewall of my 19 Forester. This is for an amateur radio install. I found the same rubber grommet on the engine side and the plastic housing up above the gas pedal. Looks you poked a small hole in the gasket on the engine side away from the factory wiring? On the under dash side, did you pre drill a hole in the plastic tube housing? I see the blue power wire comes out of a hole but I didn't see an existing hole on my car where the factory wiring comes in by the gas pedal/steering column.

    Nice video! My friend and I used this video and had a smooth installation. Before the install I noticed as I turn my volume up the bass slowly starts to fade out. After the install the same thing happens with the subwoofer volume. The system seems to fade out the lows at higher volume so the highest I can really listen to it before the sub starts to get quieter is 25. I’m guessing it’s just a weak head unit, but curious if anyone has some input.

      If you are buying a subwoofer, absolutely you will need an amplifier. Your factory radio only puts out about 10 to 15 watts per speaker, and does not have any additional available power for an aftermarket subwoofer.
      If you are new to this, i'd recommend just using a loaded enclosure that has the amp and sub all in one. amzn.to/3y5wrlG
