      James Justice ive installed a sub into a Cadillac but that had a blown speaker over the rear deck so it was really easy. Just snipped wires from old speaker, spliced and connected to the new box. Done in 10mins... But now in a Jeep with no speakers in the trunk , the closest are in the backseat doors , are you saying I could just pop the door panel off and splice some wire into one of the speakers on the rear doors and run that to the trunk and connect it to the sub ? Would I need a ground like this guy said ? I didn’t have to do that before in my Cadillac. Also would it put a strain on my battery or alternator by adding the Subwoofers? Or does that come down to sub wattage and how strong the amplifier is ? (2 12” Powerbass)

But installing to factory radios is very easy as you saw here. Just an extra step. Very good video, no music like others said, and clear instructions. A+ video here!

    I’ve been a customer of crutchfield for years, back before the type r 12’s went from 500rms up to 600, they’re generally more expensive than my local shops and other online stores but their customer service more than makes up for it. Add to that the fact that they also send instructions specific to your project via car make/model, year and various trim options and it’s easy to see why I’ve recommended them dozens upon dozens of times. Oh, and they also provide the adapters for, say, the door speakers in an extended cab 2000 s10. That kind of stuff really makes a huge difference. This is literally the only company I’ve ever consistently recommended to my friends, coworkers and family *and* never once have I regretted it. Every time they listened to me I’ve always received an almost surprised call/text from the respective person saying that they haven’t ever been so surprised by the supreme coverage provided for the product by a company. I bought the sound ordnance ported bandpass dual 12’s, matching alpine amp and focal 165v1 component one time and they sent the replacement focal speakers before I even returned the original ones to them. One of the mid range woofers has an incredibly minuscule pin prick of a hole right by the seal but other than that I honestly cannot explain the amazing, full body sound that they create. The soundstage is unparalleled and songs like bohemian rhapsody literally sounded like I was a couple rows back dead center at a concert just for myself/occupants. This comment got out of hand but it’s honestly because I can’t recommend crutchfield enough, back in the mid 2000’s I was hesitant to spend my limited cash(I was around 17/18 at the time lol) on a system I had priced around town/online that I knew was around 80-100 dollars more expensive but the warranty included already made up for it as that alone would have cost more from daddy-o’s(one of my infamous local shops) but then when I got the items, which arrived insanely quick relative to what I’d been used to with places like eBay etc at the time, I found a print out with detailed instructions. This peace of mind was invaluable as this was my first install I’d done by myself and was beginning to second guess myself. The instructions were great, but the added speaker wire adapters were greater. That was one of those things you sometimes just completely don’t even consider until you’re midway through the project and it’s now too late to go to the store lol that was such a life saver and that experience made me a customer for life, if that was somehow in question at this point. I love crutchfield, I’ve never loved a company, hell ive only ever really loved two women so I’m not exactly throwin around love lol but crutchfield is something else. They do things the right way in a time where they really don’t have to. I’ve got about seven stories where they have saved or at least expedited a project of mine but this comment is excessive enough.
    *TL;DR Crutchfield is unparalleled and their customer service is in a league of its own.*
    Edit - man the whole reason I even started this comment was to point out the guy calling the mini van a hatchback lol I found that funny even tho I guess it’s technically correct, just found it humorous. Great video btw. My passion for crutchfield really took over there...smh.

    I've been wanting to get an amp and sub in my car as well as a new digital stereo, I already have the aftermarket speakers in and while they do sound okay-ish I think an amp will make them sound way better. I have watched a ton of tutorials already but this one is by far the best one that shows how to get everything working from the very start to the very end while going into detail on how to do everything. After I watch this a couple times I'm pretty sure I'll be confident enough to do all of this by myself, or with a friend :)

    This was amazing from start to finish, I had started to fiddle with my 1999 Honda about 5 years ago and did my first install and it was “ight” and then my mom asked me to do the same for her hummer which I didn’t want to touch with a 10 ft pole and told her take it to the shop bc when I did mine I did it soooo dangerously and have not picked doing any type of system until watching this video step by step I think I am ready to put 3500 watts inside my 2021 Hyundai sonata 😊

Your comment just made me realize a issue ive been having with my audio for the last 10 year's. I ran the remote turn on to a fuse. My thinking was. Car turns on amp for my two 12's comes on (along with radio). And it worked fine. Except for the rare time the radio accidently gets turned off. Those fucking subs rumble bass that just about blows my fucking ear drums out . just realized that must be because the head unit is off and amp still has power. Well shit. Just picked up a 19 scat pack Challenger. I really dont want to pull my dash apart but guess it'll need to be done.

    • @crutchfield

      The installation would be very similar with a powered (self-amplified) subwoofer--you just wouldn't need to use speaker wire to connect the amp and sub together in that case, otherwise the rest of the steps remain the same.

    On stock stereo install don't take apart the dash. Just tap in to the rear speakers using T taps on the speaker wire. And buy a LOC adapter with remote turn on wire

  • @Stalker-lh5nk
    @Stalker-lh5nk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Just so you guys understand; taking apart the entirety of the dash isnt necessary for all vehicles. It depends on how the dash is made and how your stereo fits in. You also skip almost the entirety of that step if you have an aftermarket stereo installed, you still of course have to take apart the dash but it removes the need for a line out converter because your aftermarket stereo should already have a subwoofer RCA output or two. The only wire you would be required to tap into with an aftermarket stereo is your accessory/acc line, which tells your stereo and after installation your amp to turn on when the vehicle starts. Its not quite as scary as it looks.

    This is a good tutorial but I have a real issue with where you got your source power, you went off of the battery terminal directly and I would think you being a professional shop you would know that you never ever use the battery as power distribution because it will cause galvanic corrosion (corrosion from two different metals touching and the presence of an electrolyte) on the stud and cause more corrosion on the battery terminal and connection causing an internal resistance in the cable to the cranking motor and can be the cause of hard starting. To properly wire ANYTHING extra into a vehicle (lights, speakers, ect) the factory has provided you with a power distribution center that is either near the fuse box under the hood and is maked as accecory power, if the vehicle doesn't have a provided power distribution center from the factory then you go to the cranking motor solenoid and locate the B terminal, it's the biggest on it and made of copper, it has a big cable coming from the battery connecting to it. I just figured I'd drop some useful knowledge on you guys because I see this all the time and it causes so many problems and nobody seems to questions the shady wiring jobs that were done because the shop was truly ignorant of how to do it correctly or they were just too lazy to do it correctly. I feel it is a sad day when almost an entire industry can't follow simple guild lines set by the OEM, I mean they didn't go through all the trouble of giving you options for powering accessories so you could just do it incorrectly and charge people money. As a professional you should pride your self in making any changes to a vehicle be as factory as possible. Sorry if that came off as insulting but I'm just stating that as professionals all work should be done correctly.

      Given wiring directly to the battery has been the standard way to install an amp for at least the past 30+ years and has led to no issues of note, I'm thinking they'll be fine. (and as James notes, dielectric grease should be used on all the connection points).
