I promise you this. My reason for saying this is NOT to toot your horn or flatter you, even though I know it probably will. I am saying this because I believe in positive reinforcement towards outstanding effort and skill. And after studying car audio installation here on the TH-cam University(lol) for months now, I have, throughout the course of this video, come to recognize something special(in my humble opinion). What I've noticed, is that you have shown a number of things that sets you apart from the rest of the content creators I've seen delivering the exact same, similar, or related topics and points. I'll just list a few for example. You (again, in my opinion) presented the clearest, most concise and extremely well delivered instructions of any car audio tutorial TH-cam content creator I have seen, to date. You used several methods to ensure clarity. And you did it all in under 10 minutes. That's fricken impressive! These other guys have 20-50min videos explaining your exact topic and still don't deliver it half as clear and understandably as you did. You really are an outstanding teacher! And I don't say this lightly because trust me when I say, if a content creator does a sloppy job editing by not cutting out bloops that cause confusion, doesn't take the time to set up the frame correctly/goes the extra mile to ensure the clear well depicted shot, rambles about meaningless attention seeking topics/jokes, does a really bad job explaining, gives wrong instruction, basically isn't willing to put any extra effort in. I am that guy that calls them out on every specific instance. You literally had one mishap with the wiring that you could have gone back and redone the shot correctly, but that was clearly explained. So is not note worthy I.M.O., and was far overshadowed by your excellent delivery and above and beyond effort. That above and beyond effort really showed in the time you took ensuring you explain your point in various learning styles. That way you ensured someone who might have had trouble understanding the point verbally via spoken direction, might have had a better chance understanding visually via a written/drawn diagram. I thought that showed that you not only have a firm understanding of teaching methods, but also that you have integrity and are passionate about the act of teaching and reaching people intellectually. Too few times will someone comment pointing out a negative about someone, and yet never take the time to praise a positive action. And if anyone deserves that in this niche of car audio, you are certainly one of them! I think you're doing a great thing that is clearly impacting a huge number of viewers judging by the almost 1 million views. So I think that's worth a little appreciation and affirmation. You really are doing something special here. Great job! Keep up the outstanding work there Teach! You have something special when it comes to teaching brotha! Cheers! P.S. From what i've read online, the factory installed speaker wires are perfectly fine for the typical low wattage output comming from the factory installed radio and good for up to 75watts when comming from an aftermarket amplifier, higher wattage output will require thicker gauge wire and rewiring of the speakers throughout the vehicle is a must. FYI on that metra 70-2003 GM harness adapter, i came across one of those for installing an aftermarket radio only in my 2005 gmc sierra truck and the wires arent exactly one to one, speaking only for the speaker wires, if you match all wires color for color, you will get exactly left and right channels as it should be for the front and rear, but the fader channeling is backwards, when fading to the front on the HU, you will get the rears, and vise versa, other than that, its a great adapter.

My guy! This is exactl;y what i needed. I've done a ton of sub setups. Swapped out plenty of head units and speakers. I have yet to amp aftermarket speakers. This is going to help me so much! Everything is sounding great right now, but i just need a little more from the 6.5's and 6x9's. The head unit i have in right now is only pushing 17 watts to each channel. My 6.5's are rated for 60rms, and the 6x9's are rated for 200rms. Both sets are the JBL GTO series respectively. I'm gonna save this video for when i get my 4 channel amp in.
Great video! Quick question ro anyone that know what do I do if I'm trying to run 2 speakers instead of one per door? Run an extra wire from the amp directly to the extra speaker or can I steal power from the existing speaker wire?. Thanks!
New to the audio world for the car and truck stereos. Great explanation on the wiring. I was missing the speed wire setup for the new aftermarket stereo.
Hello your video in youtube is the only one that shows how to connect to the amp great video bro. and Thank you. i was not going to pay $550.00 dollars just to put amp in my ride.
Nope. Red wire (in this specific case, yours may vary) went to a switched source in the fuse box and I still used the blue wire to amp like you normally would.
This is the very first video where it is explained in detail where both ends of the speedwire goes. It was great how he had the harness' and speedwire laid out on the table for us visual learners,
I have a ddx396. I didnt think it was the bottom of the line in the echelon series. Maybe it is now but years ago it wasn't. I will say that I installed that head unit and kenwood sport speakers (def not the top of the line speakers) and then put a Kicker 10” low profile competition sub and kicker 400 watt amp with remote in my 2005 Ford F150 STX and then moved the system to my 2002 Tundra SR-5 and in both trucks the sound was absolutely wonderful. This audio install is going to sound fantastic! That 5 channel Kicker Amplifier is an Excellent choice, it's very potent! My buddy has that exact same one from Amazon. He's running just 1 12" Kicker L7 Solobaric and the shit Slaps!
Great explanation, I just have one question if I only want to connect speakers and sub to my amplifier do I still need to connect the yellow RCA wires that are connected to the stereo?
Tahoe thank you for simplifying the install from the head unit to the amp and all i have is 2 questions, 1 i posted. 2ndly where do i plug in thebass knob behind my 5 channel amp? Thank you a dozen times for uour greay video!!
I'm rewiring the entire system due to the age of the car and the size of the wire I want to use for the speaker setup to include a new radio system, amp, and speakers that are much higher in rating than the one currently installed. I would have loved to hear your system after you installed it. do you have a video?
Thank you so much for this clear, concise explanation!! I was literally so frustrated trying to figure out how to Wire the speakers to the amp and this video explained everything so well thank you 🙏🏼
now, if you vehicle has an oem upgraded sound system like bose and it has amp, do i rewire the speedwire to the radio harness? would the oem amp affect it or should i just wire the speed wires to the oem amp? the video was easy to understand to beginners.
I have a question! So wouldn't running the speed wire to the factory harness (amp)- affect the input power to the speakers, since the stock amplifier doesn't have the same power as the aftermarket one?
There's normally around 0.8mm speaker wires in most cars. Maybe 10ft in length to each speaker. Over that distance the factory wires will cope with say 100w rms with no bother.
I have a question about the RCAs. My aftermarket head unit has Front Out, Rear Out and Sub Out. (Stinger Heigh10) My DSP (PRV Audio 2.8x) has A and B inputs and 8 outputs. I then have three amplifiers (all mono amps); 1 for Tweeters, 1 for Mids and 1 for Subs. How would you run the RCAs? A 6-channel RCA from the Head Unit to the DSP? If so, where would you connect the six channel RCA on the DSP? Would you then run individual 2 Channel RCAs to go from each output to the specific amplifier? What about the remote turn on? How would you run that? A single run from the Head Unit to the DSP? Then three individual runs from each amp to the DSP? I need a lot of help lol
I really appreciated your wiring tutorial; I have a Kenwood x802-5 I am also installing 2 new door woofers and tweeters -along with 2 custom-auto sound undercover( 2) 8 "subwoofers under my 70 Chevy C-10 bench seat; unfortunately the undercover speakers have no RCA CONNECTIONS;?? THE HEAD UNIT IS A CUSTOM AUTO SOUND 230 WITH 3 COLUMNS OF RCA,S; the SUBWOOFERS HAVE A BARE WIRE + AND --- WIRE CLAMP STYLE INPUTS; How could I use the R.C.A. IMPUTS FROM THE HEAD UNIT TO THE AMPLIFIER; COULD I CUT THE ENDS OFF THE R.C.A.,s and just put the wire into the pos & neg; inputs?? sorry it, 's so long but it, 's a little confusing to me: I hope you, 'll consider a reply; thank you, Patrick.P
So the switched source on the speed wire also needs to be connected to what ever power course the red one goes to? I had to tap into my cigarette lighter cable to power my aftermarket radio
Maybe I missed it , but just curious if running everything like you said will actually bypass the factory Bose amp by substituting it with the power from the new one ?
Thanks for the explanation helped tons. The only question I have is if I have a 4 channel amplifier for the speakers and a 1 channel for the subwoofer do I need to do anything differently?
Great video, turn out my car speaker is power by radio, I almost rewire my speaker to amp. one more question, if my stereo harness doesn't have ground wire, can I ground the amp output ground wire to the near by chassis?
I have the same head unit in my truck and I am planning on running speedwire from my 4-channel amp to my harness to power my upgraded door speakers. My question is what remote wire do I use off the ddx396 to tap into the speedwire?
The graph at the end made my life so much easier CLUTCH❗️❗️❗️
Glad it helped!

Very informative I go to school for automotive technology I love learning new stuff and appreciate a good teacher
That means a lot, thanks.
Very informative, I hook up not one, but two amps with six speakers in my van. Save myself $500+ doing myself. Thank you very much!
Thanks for watching!
Saved me an entire afternoon of struggling with my stero! Thanks so much!
Very clear to to the point. Thanks. What if you are using the factory radio that doesn't have RCA's? do you have a video for this?
I'm rewiring the entire system due to the age of the car and the size of the wire I want to use for the speaker setup to include a new radio system, amp, and speakers that are much higher in rating than the one currently installed. I would have loved to hear your system after you installed it. do you have a video?
watched so many videos trying to figure this shit out and you just hit the nail on the head. great work!
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Appreciate it and glad to help!
I knew what had to be done, just couldn't wrap my head around it until you explained it! Thank you!
Glad I could help!
Great video and lesson. I've been wanting to put some bump in my car for a while. I finally can afford it! Thanks for the demo!
Great video but I have one question. If I run new speaker wires directly to the AMP, do I still need to run the speed wire to the head unit?
Thank you so much for this clear, concise explanation!! I was literally so frustrated trying to figure out how to
Wire the speakers to the amp and this video explained everything so well thank you 🙏🏼
this man is a war hero lol
Wow, this was soo good man thanks! Its all coming back to me now.
Just a student trying to enjoy his commute's more and an avid DIY'er ...if thats a word , anyways THANK YOU SIR!!!! OH MY GAWHD

I'm installing a 5 channel amp currently and this video just answered all my concerns. Thank you
Glad it helped

Thanks!
Always appreciate your tutorials, Steve! You've helped me out not only in FPV but, now my stereo as well. Many thanks!
Great to hear!
By far one of the best videos I’ve seen
that speed wire baby was dope.
Absolutely perfect I appreciate the In person explanation and then the graph at the end.
Glad to help!
now, if you vehicle has an oem upgraded sound system like bose and it has amp, do i rewire the speedwire to the radio harness? would the oem amp affect it or should i just wire the speed wires to the oem amp? the video was easy to understand to beginners.
Very simple, understood explanation🙏 and a plus for the 2nd type of wiring diagram explained which is how I have it set up
Top guide you have struck the nail on the head you have made it clear and easy to understand thanks
wow! this was a amazing crash course!
thank you!
I have a question! So wouldn't running the speed wire to the factory harness (amp)- affect the input power to the speakers, since the stock amplifier doesn't have the same power as the aftermarket one?
Thats my question also
There's normally around 0.8mm speaker wires in most cars. Maybe 10ft in length to each speaker. Over that distance the factory wires will cope with say 100w rms with no bother.
Thank you for the diagram at the end of the video, that’s the way to go!
My life is better because of you 👌🏻🐐
That's awesome.Glad to have helped!
I have a question about the RCAs.
My aftermarket head unit has Front Out, Rear Out and Sub Out. (Stinger Heigh10)
My DSP (PRV Audio 2.8x) has A and B inputs and 8 outputs.
Thanks for the brevity and clarity. Awesome tutorial 👍🏼👍🏼
Precise and clear explaining , simplified to make sense to the uninitiated.Good work
Thanks a lot
Thanks for the explanation helped tons. The only question I have is if I have a 4 channel amplifier for the speakers and a 1 channel for the subwoofer do I need to do anything differently?
Great video, turn out my car speaker is power by radio, I almost rewire my speaker to amp. one more question, if my stereo harness doesn't have ground wire, can I ground the amp output ground wire to the near by chassis?
Do you have to have two runs of speed wire since you’re using the original speaker wiring
I have the same head unit in my truck and I am planning on running speedwire from my 4-channel amp to my harness to power my upgraded door speakers. My question is what remote wire do I use off the ddx396 to tap into the speedwire?
