@@mustangmikes197 Heck yeah 2x on any given day, he gives an ok review but not too thorough, as i got to experience driving both of these cars and i have to say that i enjoyed my 2014 CVS 3.7 pre/pony/PP slightly more as it was race red w/blk canvas top real not that suade looking mess and that 355 rear end in sport mode really moved that car! there's not to much difference as far technology goes, my S197 was fully loaded the only new feature they have now that they didn't have then was the line lock, heck my 2019.5 Mustang GT 5.0 6 sp.prem.PP1 didn't even come with a damn cd player!, but yet he says the newer S550 have come along way ahead of the 2014 S197's techno wise Wrong Wrong, and as for the exhaust i believe many people prefer that stock dual look than that quad as it made it look more old school especially if you had them 3-4" angular tip pipes out back.
Rear of the s550 is so clean. 15-17 cars or Shelby’s are my pick

2013-2014 Mustangs still look the best by far..My 2013 Mustang GT premium with 60k miles is still running strong and looking good till this day.

I 100% agree. Definitely the best looking and sounding mustangs. I'm not as big on the 2015+ mustang sounds. Don't get me wrong they sound good but the 13 and 14 are the best. In fact they are my dream cars. Tuxedo Black-on-black.

Signkutter signkutter Not on a straight line. Independent rear suspensions are not good for launching muscle cars. That’s why the older mustangs have a better 0-60 time. Look it up.

I went to my 2013 GT from my 1998 sn95 cobra and I have to say that I have always loved the look of these later s197 mustangs and the performance is still the best. There is no comparison in my book that the 13-14 cars had the best look since the 1960’s

2011-2014, if you got a premium addition, the interior was not so bad. Basic by todays standards but still very enjoyable and nice looking in a "less is more" kind of way.
I happen to think it was perfect. It wasn't absolutely filled with electronics and it was the perfect mix of modern and classic. Trust me as someone that is owned a 85, 95, 01, 02 and a 04 Mustang, the 2013 to 2014 interiors look Superior four looks and functionality.
Im 38 and bought my first mustang 2 months ago. It happens to be a 2014 as well so I’m happy to see the 2014 get some much love in the comments section.

As a previous owner of a s197 AND current owner of an s550 I gotta say that in terms of looks I miss my s197 so much! But, daily driving this s550 you are right, so so comfortable and modern. Here in LA, I commute on the 405 every morning and sometimes I actually LIKE commuting because of my car. I have gotten far more compliments on my 2017 than I did my 2014 and I think that's mainly like you said this newer model is much more appealing and flashy to the eye of non-Mustang fans. The s197 I feel is only more appealing to those of us who really appreciate Mustangs. Nonetheless, I'm a lifetime fan of them, it's all I've ever driven since I got my license and I'm sure that'll never stop. :)

I'm glad you liked your car but I feel the s197 was definitely the better option. Modern is not always better especially when things start going wrong and it starts destroying your bank. I just think the newer mustangs are just way too modern and not enough classic Mustang. Honestly what gets you more of the compliments is when you have a really nice exhaust system and The stance of your vehicle combined with wheels and tires, that's more so what gets their attention.
this just made me love my '13 5oh even more. That being said, just wrapped up a road trip from Portland Oregon down to SoCal in a 2018 GT vert 10spd and it was a solid car and a sweet drive
The s550 is the best mustang all around, but the 13-14 are the best looking mustang period.
I think 15-17 are a close second to the 13-14 (not counting the original fastback). But why Ford decided to take the 15-17 and just pinch the nose in I'll never understand. It just makes it look too much like it ate a sour candy. Also, not a fan of the new Camaro ss, the carjust looks like it has a big stupid smile on it now.
@@eurly93 The new Camaros are ATROCIOUS. I'd fire the guy that came up with that design in an INSTANT. I liked the ZL1 from 2015 I think it is, big huge grille that screams intimidation (even though I'm supposed to hate Camaros, big Mustang guy). Also the new Silverados! Butt ugly lookin things.

Sloyote exactly. And there’s something special and exclusive about the snake eyes. That’s why ford uses them for the 350 and 500 and tried to get rid of them on the regular gts
Lunch my 2016 has leather everywhere and imho it looks better than the 18. Not sure why they messed with the front end.
@@TeflonNapkins They didn't "try" to get rid of the snake eye front end for the GT. They had already been doing mock-ups of both the 350 and 500 with the snake eyes before changing it up for 18-19. No point in starting back at square one right when they're about to show off the 500.
The new s550s are great cars no getting around that but that 13-14 s197 are arguably the best looking stang Ford has produced for me anyway.

Looks like I'm not in the minority when it comes to the 2015+. I like the car but I don't turn my head when I see one down the road. The styling is rather....boring. Granted, the interior is definitely a step up but honestly, if you had the nav package in the 2010-14 Mustang with Premium interior and leather seats, those interiors weren't as bad as people say they were.
The new Mustang...idk there's something I just don't like about it. It doesn't have that Mustang look. It reminds me more of a Genesis coupe...something basic and just...there.

I'll give you the front end, and the fact that they made it a lot more euro in style; I can see how that is divisive, but that rear end is unbeatable for me.
I Agree, something about seeing the front-end of a 2014 GT coming up in your rear view mirror is alot more intimidating than seeing an S550 GT frontend..
I love my 2016 S550, but the S197 will always be iconic in my eyes. In many ways I love it more than the S550.
You are absolutely right. Hands down the 2013 and 14 look much than the 18 and 19. I test drove a 18. And didn't like it. If I could find a 13 or 14 at a good price. I will just on it. And to add. Having flowmasters on a stang can't get any better. Sounds awesome.

The 13'-14' was the epitome of classic modern design for the Mustang. Just a beautiful car. The +18' Mustangs are just more of sports cars, and Ford just did an incredible job with the interior and exterior. Starting with the GT350R, and peaking with the Mach 1 HP and GT500.
I know autos are faster, but I just can't do it. I'm 42 years old and I've never owned an automatic trans car. I'm just addicted to shifting gears!

Jason Spencer I am with you man I drive a manual in traffic every day and it doesn’t even bother me. In fact it keeps me entertained.
Yeah, no one who _enjoys_ to actually drive a car buys a bumper car (i.i.e automatic) you don't get the full experience of driving a car with an automatic either. Over here almost all cars are manual, thou they have begun now with the bumper car concept, and launch control nonsense etc. Pretty soon none of us will be allowed to actually even steer the cars everything gonna be automated. Then I bet someones gonna say "well dude the cars steer much faster than I do so I win races against someone who actually steers the car himself" eh, well ok then bud, what ever floats your boat. To each his own etc. I however like to also be the one steering the car when I drive, just as I like to shift gears myself, and don't use launch control. And IF you beat me in a race, let it be known that YOU did not beat me, your CAR did, your skill as a driver wasn't what won the race.
I prefer the 14-15 Mustang, the new front looks too weak and emasculated.

As a 13 GT500 owner, It is by far the best looking Mustang, I also traded a 15 GTPP (3 weeks after purchase) to get it. The 13-14 GT500 Recaros with the embroidered snake are the best looking and by far the most comfortable of all Recaros. However LED speedo and active exhaust of the 18/19 are really awesome features.
But you can't beat having a car that runs 10.9s all day nearly stock with only a Wheel and Drag Radial swap, like 13/14 GT500 with a good driver.
Understanding that the mustangs have come a long way and as the years passed it changes a lot but I have a 2013 mustang GT with mods that I will not give up and you are absolutely right the style of the car, the front end and the performance can't be matched , it's so sexy that they're just something about the 2013 era mustangs that turn you on

There both beautiful cars , I skipped the s197 , went right from my 2v , (witch I still own) to my 17 premium 6r80 car , and I love it . But with that said the 13 and 14 gt500s are to die for , great video Justin.
Steve Hall ya I’m not big on the s197 , that interior is just atrocious . The outside does look good but so does the s550 so why do that to yourself , always keep in mind the interior is what you sit in everrrrrrrryday
@@adammauer4992 I agree , when I sit in my car , I'm like " wow this thing is really nice" . I never felt that in any s197 , I'd take my 2v over them any day . Not saying anything bad about them , they were great cars , but I just never went out of my way to get one , have a good night bud .

Steve if you get the chance pick up a 13-14 GT500 do it, you won't regret it, it may not be the fastest around a track but it's the most fun, all I can say is controlled Oversteer. They are monsters at the strip with a drag radial swap, and good driver. I don't DD mine so I really don't care about the interior.

I always keep my eyes open for certain mustangs , I just have to make my choices count . As soon as my 17 is paid for then I'm going to start looking for another toy , most likely a 11 to 12 gt500 .

The S550 (Pre facelift, so 15-17) is my favorite body style mustang between the moderns. Hands down.
As an s-197 owner, I like the appearance of the s-197 better, but the suspension is awful from the factory along with the interior. Coming from a car with an independent rear, I HATE the live axle. I also certainly like the interior of the 15+ a lot more.
funny thing is....once the live axle finally came in 2015, guys were breaking them at the track, and paying to mod them BACK to a solid rear axle.
Mr. Excitement i have a 14 gt and honestly the live axle doesnt bother me, if your going straight, which mustangs are for, you wont notice a difference from a 2015
That’s why you have to upgrade the suspension to these cars. Once you do , it will handle as well as the 2019. That’s the last thing that the 2019 has to deal with, engine ticks and there’s aweful transmission forks from 2nd to 3rd. It’s all over the internet. Which will make the value to the 2015/2019 not desireable. 2014 mustang look was only made for two years, great looks and no engine issue and trans issue. 2014 is my vote.
100% agree. Hands down the 13/14 looks the best. My 14 premium 5.0 has many mods and is flat out badass. I love it.
searcher the car skips over bumps which gives you second thoughts about taking entrance ramps or exit ramps while pushing the car. Once you hit a bump while turning and the rear end felt like it moved a foot, you’ll know what I mean. I think the live axle cars are much less trickier to launch but I like the more stable suspension of the 15+. Just my opinion
Great comparison. I have a 14' premium & a 16' premium. The seats in the S550 are so much more comfortable that I just bought some to install in my s197. I really love both cars I am a little more partial to my 14 though it just feels like more of a retro Mustang with modern tech experience. One thing worth noting is that the back seats in the s197 are tolerable I am 6 foot 1 190 lb and I can hang out back there for an hour or so on a trip. But in the S550? impossible. My head hits the rear windshield. So the S550 wins the front half of the Interior comparison LOL not the back.
If you love the old school Mustangs from the late 60's, like the 69 Mustang Mach 1, then you have to lean toward the 2013-2014 Mustang as being the best Mustang ever in the looks department. I must admit that is why I like the 2013 -2014 Mustang and had to own one. When it come to the newer 2018-2019 I want the automatic 10 speed in it to replace my automatic 6 speed. Praying for a swap out kit!
When it comes to driving the two cars I will stick to the live rear end in the 2013-2014, road racing isn't my style anyway and Ford did the best job ever controlling the beast in the back on the 13-14 Mustang. Plus, it was the 13-14 Mustang that made it through the sloam course faster with its live rear end than the same year Chevy Camaro with its Independent rear end and the Camaro had wider tires all around that should have really given it the edge. And after all the car magazines kept saying Ford had a stone age set up, they ended up with egg on their face. But, the newer Mustangs are advancing power output, increases in driver control of all that power, more comfort on long drives and are over all are producing a more refined Mustang. But, the real question is if we tame the Mustang to much will it lose what makes it so appealing in the first place? There is a real difference between riding a wild Mustang and being on a show pony and Ford needs to make sure they don't turn one into the other and ruin the adventure for us all.

ive had both a 2013 GT and currently a 2015 GT. I personally loved the s197 becuase of the raw muscle car look and I honestly did not mind the interior. If it wasnt for the annoying issues it had, I would of kept it. On the other hand, I absolutely love my S550. I love the lines the car has and it handles amazing! I have a performance package with recaro's and you honestly do not have to do much to make them look good. I personally love the sound of the gen 2 coyote with some long tubes vs the gen 1's. Overall I love both, but if i had to do it all over again, I would choose a 15-17.

I have an '07 S197 (a Shelby GT) and personally I think its the best looking Mustang ever built save for the '69 & '70 models which it somewhat mimics save for the required safety regulation design requirements.

Subjective, lighter, but less power, the engine is definitely worse they handle worse. The ride height is worse, the interior is much worse, as well as much less advanced and less options. And there's more but I don't want to drag on

My opinion on the 13-14 GT VS 2018+ GT, the 13 front end and grill looks great, although I prefer the position and look of the 11-12 lights, the front end on the 18+ looks very sleek and modern, but I'm not so sure that's the design they should have gone with for a muscle car. Other than that, the side profile and rear end for the 18+ both look great and wins out over the 13-14, although I do prefer the rear lights and deck lid on the 15-17 VS 18+ GT's. I find it interesting that the Shelby design stuck with the 2015-2017 front lights. Some say it's because Ford wants to use up their warehouse full of front end lights left over from the 17's...😎

he said the 14 is raw lol my 99 cobra before i stripped down was raw. I own a 14 GT now and it feels luxurious to me, very tame if i say lol
One thing that drives me crazy about the 6th gen mustang is the absence of the fog lights in the grill

I agree, fog lights always belong in the grill. I heard Ford moved them because oncoming traffic kept thinking you had your bright-lights on (when the fog lights were on).

Don't know why, but glad they did. As someone who came into Mustang ownership only because the s550, with no prior brand loyalty or nostalgia, the horizontally aligned (relative to headlights) fog lights look silly - out of place. There's a couple of reasons the vast majority of vehicles, sports car or otherwise, have fog lights down low, aligned vertically to headlights. 1. They work better down low (under the line of vision so highlighting the road rather than the fog) and 2. look more aesthetically pleasing that way.
Points for being a distinctive look, though. But had Ford stuck with the s197 setup, especially the front end look and the live axle rear end, I would have chosen to buy another brand sports car instead of a Mustang.
I had a 11 modded and now an 18. Love the exterior of the 11 (better than the 13 and 14), but the 18 is SO much more refined in interior and suspension. The 18 is so much better as a daily ride.
14 looks way better. s550 looks like the fusion. still love the sn95's and new edges the best of the later years.
I had a 14 Mustang, I ended up selling it for a 2016. That interior really is a huge difference. Personally I like the sleeker look of the 16, but I think I like the 14’s brake lights more. They’re both really awesome cars though that’s for sure

Are you talking performance or looks?Present day Stangs have higher engine compression and volumetric efficiency which equals more hp and torque. Even with a supercharger the S197s are limited on power output thanks to it’s engine rods. The 2015s and up are “true” muscle Mustangs with the stock power to prove it.
I''d say the retro gauge looks better imo. Sure the LED screen can give you much more info but it's just not as cool as the retro gauge, plus, nowadays LED screen gauge are everywhere..

The white really shows off the inconsistent panel gaps so I'd have either of them in black instead. Still love the look of both!
S197 all the way!!! I got a 05 GT only wished it had a coyote in it but the 4.6 3 valve is still a good engine for that time period. But the s550 is is more modern sports car compared to the s197 is a modern muscle.

Being a 2015 s550 owner, I still love the 13-14 s197 as I’ve owned one previously. The newer s550 definitely catches attention but overall, I’m just not a fan of the revamp.
Fair enough. For me the s550 is the only reason I'm now a Mustang owner. Prior to that, I feel like Ford was coming up short in comparison to competitor vehicles in various ways. But, I'm a sports car enthusiast, not a straight-line muscle car enthusiast. If I wanted a retro muscle car looking and performing car I'd go with the Challenger, which imo has done a much better job in that niche than the previous Mustang. Now the s550 is a true sports car that can actually tear up a track or windy roads, plus the v8 na power delivery and sound - win win. And it looks more sleek like a sports car now for bonus points.

S197 will always have my heart because it was my first Mustang. But I totally agree, after my accident that totalled my pony. While it was in the shop getting diagnosed, I was driving the 2017 GT Mustang and it was night and day as far as interior. The exhaust sound was good, and the back up camera was a new feature that was a creature comfort that I knew I wanted to have moving forward.
But if I had to choose, I'd still go with the S197 due to how it is retro-modeled after the classic Mustang, and how you can add the creature comforts to it.

Cool comparison. I have a 14 GT Premium. I just crossed 5 years and 50k miles so ordering a 2020 track pack 2. I am excited to get it but I will really miss the S197. In my opinion the 13-14 are the best looking Mustang of all time especially from the rear. I’ll be giving it to my kiddo so she’ll enjoy it.
s 197 looks way better...more retro.....muscle car. However I love what Ford has done with the 550....a great car for mods especially blowers. Either way they both are great cars. American muscle has done a great job bringing quality parts to the masses. VMP blowers are the way to go folks....great products even better customer service
Meh. The Challenger is a better modern muscle car with retro look imo, by a good margin. Not my thing, though, so once Ford brought the Mustang into sports car territory with a decent interior and sleeker more modern look, I finally bought a Mustang. Otherwise I'd be driving a different brand of sports car right now rather than a Ford.
I own a 13 GT and have test driven a 19 GT. The 19 is impressive for what it is, but nothing can replace sentimental value. I’ve been through so much in my S197 and it’s never a bad day when I start it after a long day.

One of the reasons I bought the ‘18 GT is BECAUSE it looked like a cross between an Aston Martin, Camaro, and Mustang. Not traditional but damn sexy and FAST.
Great review, for me and lots of others as you stated, Justin , it's the S197 hands down👍 one of if not THE BEST MUSTANG of all time , as is the 67-68 fastbacks which are also gorgeous and very similar DNA in the two which I see in the two and adore.👍

Front of the 2014 is killer. I'm past the manual, perhaps showing my age and driving in city traffic for ever. One thing is for sure, the auto makes you feel safer when pounding your favourate mountain roads because you can keep both hands on the wheel at all times when shifting and being in total control of the fun by using the paddles to shift. That said, there"s somewhat of an interesting and even mysterious feeling about the 2018/19 auto, enter Sports Mode and the thing rev matches for you. Wow, and it is so perfect that it puts a smile on your face.

The 13 and 14 cars are 2 year production. And will probably be sought after. Who really races them any fucking way and no one buys a mustang for the interior yea it's a better car I've driven both and still prefer the 13 over that over priced wanna be Aston Martin.

Owned a 13 and just bought a 19 a couple months ago with 3,000 on it so no wear. After first driving my s550 my gf goes why does it feel like that (meaning all bloaty/boatish) I said that’s the downside to a irs rear end 💁🏻♂️ stock for stock my 13 felt so much more solid and planted around turns literally pushing my buddy’s 09 R8 on exits. Overall sitting in my S550 301a pack feels more worth the money by far she just needs some suspension and light mods. Thanks for the video comparison 🤘🏼

I have a 14 GT manual, and my biggest beef with the interior (as silly as it sounds) is the location of the friggen cup holders! They are right in line with my shifter, so each time I shift my big gulp gets in the way!
I noticed in the S550s Ford smartly relocated the cup holders (out of the way of the shifter), why didn't they rhink to do that on the S197's???
love the 18-20 light years better all around especially with the a10, they look great too.

Man I wish they would do a little refresh on the s197 such as a few mechanical updates such as power increase, 10 speed automatic 😰, a little update to the interior and a few other things since this design is just about near perfect. I love my 2014 mustang gt and even tho the newer ones are impressive I still like my look a lot better.

Great video. I have a 2017 manual GT and I love it! Sorry but I just can't embrace the new front. It just looks squished down and those lower side angles look like a Toyota. Also, I like how my tail lights are vertical but the new ones look like parentheses to me. And that god awful flat plastic trash can lid they stuck on top of the coyote is pure sacrilege. Don't mean to be negative about the new design but it just doesn't say "Mustang" to me any more. Beautiful '14, though! Thanks for this video.
The 2014 doesn’t require as much oil. Which in my opinion is a plus. Also insurance is cheaper on the 13 and 14s. The taillights look so much better on the 13-14s. 18-19s have a very weak manual transmission. The plastic engine cover on the 18-19s are ridiculously big. The 18-19s were also a lot more expensive compared to the 13-14s. The interior trim is a lot better on 18-19s. The engine is better on the 18-19s.

MUCH better engine. That's huge. Also they handle better, have better options and overall comfort. The car is more advanced as well
2018 Mustang GT costs what 40K? You could get a 2013-2014 Mustang GT for 20K then you can personalize it. If the price could come down to 30K I could see it, but 40K is just ridiculous.
I love the aggressive S550 look, but still a bit on the fence on the '18 facelift. As mentioned it does look great at certain angles, but weird at others. It also just makes the hood look shorter, which I dislike. I own a '17 GT Premium with the Performance Package. Even being a manual and used as a commuter car, it's great to drive and it makes me smile every day! A perfect blend of comfort, convenience, fun, and power.

I bought a brand new 1991 Notch 5.0 LX that I absolutely adored for years and 150,000 miles. I had a difficult time even liking the 4.6 in any body style simply because it’s a 4.6🤨. I never drove one never wanted to. But when ford finally came out with the coyote it got me warm again. I bought a 2017 and I absolutely love it. The S197 still had reflections of the 4.6 so I didn’t even consider it. Can’t wait to buy a 2020-2021 for my next build.

Not to sound like I'm an old person but I think the 13 and 14 Mustang GT are the best year mustangs ever since the old ones and it still stands to be my dream car. It has the perfect amount of retro on the outside with just the right amount of modern so it doesn't look alien to the Mustang world, and honestly I think the interior of those vehicles are absolutely gorgeous. Just the right mix of classic and modern without having too much technology. Not hating on the 2015 plus mustangs, they are still awesome cars but real mustang owners have to agree that the 2013 and 2014 are the best. Maybe I am biased because I am a muscle car guy and I'm not big on these newer vehicles being loaded with technology, but I will still stand by my word. Plus with how your 2014 Mustang feels what does supercharger and that really nice exhaust system plus the fact that it's a manual (because mustangs are better with manuals), I kind of thought you would love that car more. To each their own, at the end of the day a Mustang is a Mustang. The only Mustang that is complete trash is the Mach E, that is NOT a mustang. Also, I feel like this review is a little biased because it seems like you care more about modern features more than anything and modern is not always better. Also the digital gauges are definitely a step down. Imagine the cost of replacing them.
S197 is simple but I'm not looking for a Cadillac feel in my Mustang. I do like to interior of the new ones but not necessary for me. S197 all the way....
The interior and rear end of the new car and the front end of the old car would be perfect for me.
