I don't believe Simon gets enough love in the comments. this dude went on to create one of the most successful labels for the genre and it's subsidiaries, honestly the guy is a genius.
The Cocteau Twins aren't so much a band, or even a type of music, as a place that one goes to. An amazing, otherworldly place full of heightened feelings and deep experience. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to put together this beautiful collection of extraordinary performance recordings. I appreciate you!
I often imagine all the amazing music that might have been if they had of managed to stay together and keep writing together over the past two decades or so. It wasn’t meant to be, but just imagine...
@@JMG72ARG Based upon what has been hinted at in terms of personal issues/differences and the way the band dissolved at the end it is highly unlikely. Add to that some extensive “anxiety” on the part of Liz and well... A few artists have managed to coax her out of hiding for a few performances, but they have been few and far between. They were also offered millions to reform by one of the festivals a number of years back and declined. The fact that despite many bands of that era doing reunions and tours (slowdive, ride, etc.) and having a fair amount of interest/success they haven’t done it even though the response would likely be huge in comparison to what even these bands have experienced, so my guess is that ship has sailed. I hope they prove me wrong, but I think we will see Jesus Christ return before the twins.
I often long for a reunion as well but it would be like going to a 40 year high school reunion... feeling slightly familiar but too strongly disillusioned to feel comfortable. Unless you're Wire. Those guys are still a brilliant machine live.
Saw them live at the Town & Country Club in 1986. There was a big fight in the audience and they had to stop playing till it calmed down. Very weird. Awesome gig though, Love's Easy Tears had just come out, and they played stuff back to Head Over Heels. Throwing Muses supported, too.
Ha! I have a bootleg of that show. I don't recall hearing any evidence of a brawl on it. I must have another listen. Imagine getting stroppy at a CT gig.😂
I had the enormous pleasure of seeing them on numerous occasions. It is a shame that they never released an official live album. Live, they truly were a wonder to behold!
That was the first song I fell in love with. It was on Lonely Is An Eyesore (as you'll already know). I was all in from that point on. It's been an amazing journey. They literally became the soundtrack of my twenties. The vibes from Crushed were just unfathomable when I first heard it. How could anyone do something like that??? ♥ P.S. This is a pretty incredible live version
People usually give so much emphasis on the singing but this BAND created some of THE most intensely emotional soundscapes, of the human condition and our flickering time in mortality and our railing and weeping in it, that was ever created
Fascinating! I've been listening to CT since the Carolyn's Fingers video was shown on VH1. Back when VH1 was adult contemporary in the late 80s. I have all their music on YT Music and just shuffle. One of my favorite tunes with Liz's voice is Lifeform by Future Sound of London. Space age music with extraterrestrial vocals. BTW, I have always been so surprised how Liz could reproduce most of her vocals live. I know for sure they take a ton of effort. Thanks for the compilation. Crazy how you made it almost seem like she's singing the song playing. Not always, of course, but not shabby at all. Thanks again!
What a bright, sharp and lovely set of recodings! Good job putting this all together. So many are of the poorest sound quality. This could easily be a legit live compilation from their label. I think it's the best I've heard to date. Thank you because it truly brings it all vividly to life. I'm there! ♥
Fairplay, thanks very much for putting this compilation together, I never knew they performed anything live from Victorialand on any of their tours, Whales Tails sounds brilliant here, with Liz' improvisations and with the drum machine added it sounds like a missing link between Victorialand and Bluebell Knoll.
I've been a fan since the early 90s. They have such a unique sound unparalleled to anyone else, however, when i saw them live i didn't feel the same impact as on the albums. It wasn't the music, but the vocals that through me off. To me they're more of a studio band, and excellent at their craft.
Cocteau twins and Liz will always be the most ulterior voice sound band with their creativity and canalization of intimate enoctions that they made to fllew to the whole Universe
inclined to think that Delores and the crannberries were influenced by them slightly. She even looked like elizabeth with similar mannerisms .... the celtic sisterhood...!
I saw them in 1988 in Saint Pete Florida, but they only played three songs. Then I saw them again in Ybor City at the Ritz in 1992-ish, before "Four Calendar Cafe". But, the sound was terrible. So, I did see them twice, but never got to really enjoy it.

@@robertforman3494 I know a lot of CT fans would consider it sacrilege but I think I would've tried to find another vocalist or 2 that could shadow her a bit. Give Liz say so on who they were. Her voice is unique, of course. No one like her. But with the right mix I think it could've worked. Instead, at times, she was matched up against 3, sometimes 4, guitars. As a once upon a time lead singer myself(of course no where near her level. Who is?) I know how frustrating it can be trying to sing over a wall of guitars. And she always seemed uncomfortable with her in ear monitors. Regularly fidgeting with them. It just seemed as tho, as their live production got bigger, she was left to fend for herself. Maybe she preferred it that way. Perhaps she liked the freedom to change things up & try different things. If that's the case I would've scaled back on the guitars. Gone with 2. Maybe add a keyboard instead for added texture that wouldn't have been so overbearing. But what do I know? Not much most days. I do know that I will always love the music of Cocteau Twins. Regardless of my observations I would have loved to have seen them live whatever the lineup.
@@johnstinchcomb8156 I just wonder if it couldn’t have been resolved at the mixing desk. I suppose with the technology available today the layering might be resolved too.
jeez it's live sound.. they don't mix to make it sound good DI'd from the board into your setup.. live sound is mixed to work in a room full of people also the whole vibe of them is to create a soundscape where it all is one mood, the band are not "accompaniement" or a "backing" band.. the Cocteau Twins created a MOOD if you mixed it how you suggest it would destroy the vibe they DO create

Well said!
I started crying on Pur
They are a band from Heaven
you must be talking about cocteau twins, not U2, the cocteaus are from another planet!
...or Las Vegas..
"Pandora" - off the charts brilliant. The composition and Liz F. just inspired beyond belief.

I saw them twice in the early 90's. Not overly impressed cuz they seemed to have stage fright. Still love the music so.
There were the BBC recordings. Not sure if still available, but if it is you've got to get it.
What was needed were a back up singer or two to handle the other vocal parts - just as other guitar players were added to cover all of Robin’s parts.
PANDORA... talk about a lovely song... wow, i wish i could be in a state of mind to make a tune like that. very amazing, and just absolutely stunning

cóż dodać, cóż ująć....moja muzyka , moje życie :) zamykam oczy i widzę siebie tutaj...i to jest piękne...
