Hi all, this video is a re-upload of the Cocteau Twins Documentary from May 2022. My reasoning for taking down the original video was due to a minor error. When discussing the Heaven or Las Vegas tour, I mentioned that The Veldt was the opening act. While saying this, I mistakenly showed a picture of Majesty Crush. In May of 2022 I was unfamiliar with Majesty Crush and The Veldt, but now I can say I am a fan of both groups. I went back and changed the picture to The Veldt (provided to me by Danny Chavis himself) and reverified all the pictures in this video. Apologies for the confusion.
for any big fans: elizabeth still makes music and is active on social media. she was working on a project with a band called sun’s signature and i recommend checking it out it’s just like before. she’s a genius and still has it.
They are so hard on that town they came from - it’s actually in a beautiful part of Scotland, between Edinburgh and Glasgow. I lived in the area for 3 months. They really overstate the misery quotient. I have been a fan of the Cocteau Twins since I was 14 in 1984; I’m from Seattle. The Cocteau Twins had a steady presence on the U.S. college charts, especially with Blue Bell Knoll, and Heaven or Las Vegas. I was a college dj in 1991-92, and followed the college charts since I was about 13. I saw them during that last tour. It was great. So lucky.
Though I was familiar with their previous albums, for me Heaven or Las Vegas is their masterpiece and represents a great time in my life. They, like depeche mode, pet shop boys, o m d and many others were saying goodbye to the eighties in a wonderful fashion
@@carlossobral3969Everybody has an opinion. HOLV is a gorgeous album, and my opinion is that it’s weird that you would use the word ‘worst’ to describe any of their work. 🤷♂️ that’s just my opinion tho.
Have loved this band since 1984 . I used to play the $hit out of this them on college radio in '85-87. Got to see them live in L.A. (palace) 1985. It was such an exiting time . . .just as you'd start to wear out the latest record, they'd come out with another
my daughter will be 5 in september. the first music she heard after emerging from the womb was kisses and milk. been a big fan of cocteau twins since my days on kusf 90.3fm in the 80s. back then, the best college radio in the US.
When I was in peace corps,97-99- in the Sahel….it was the Cocteau Twins that held me together….in a very challenging environment. As a young American girl. Cocteau twins…..was everything in that hot African desert. Thank u. Now at 51- I still have the cassette mixes….a different time
They are absolutely one of my most beloved bands, such a big place in my heart for them. I was fortunate enough to see them live at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco and lovely Mazzy Star opened up for them (early to mid 90s, I believe). Wonderful documentary about one of the best bands ever!
Fabulous version of the song, and definitely my favourite version (and one of favourite songs) even if Robin and Liz were performing under the This Mortal Coil banner. The first of my two CT gigs was at the UEA in Norwich on 14 Feb 1994, supported by Seefeel - best Valentines ever. Mark Clifford would later be part of the CT's backing band. (And nice NCFC avatar. OTBC!)
Actually Simon Raymond moved on from a band called Wild about Harry, the Drowning Crazy was befor that and then on to the Cocteau Twins, i know this because i was the lead singer of Wild about Harry. I think he did the right thing and i loved seeing him play with the Cocteau's. Much Love xxx
Some fans seem to be not so into Four Calendar Cafe, but i really love that album, too. The melodies on it are gorgeous. They never released a bad record in my opinion.
Saw them in 1994,nyc Roseland Ballroom,us siblings were fortunate to hear jools holland, and other radio shows.i first heard them in early 80s,the pink opaque
Love's Easy Tears, for me. I was amazed to find out it was real words. The opening of Victorialand and Blue Bell Knoll are both particular favourites too. Thanks for the video.
KROQ radio here in Los Angeles was a great influence for me throughout the 80s and 90s. This is where the Coctue Twins were introduced to me; their majestic tones of love and melancholy, really brought it home to me straight to the heart in mind.
Thought there'd be a bit about how Prince was a massive fan and who wanted them to sign with Paisley Park. Even Prince acknowledged that the CTs were doing things that he couldn't.
This band was really from another planet! I loved the first CD for it's GOTH street cred, but ended up buying 4 more soon after because they're just so chill and beautiful. 4AD also spawned another of my favs, “Dead Can Dance” who also sing in “gibberish” and ALSO expanded from a GOTH debut into the stratosphere! (Documentary on them would be cool!)
It’s amazing to realize how much music was altered by the Post-Punk movement during that era (I turned 18 in '87). It absolutely EXPLODED in musical possibilities! No wonder so many modern Artists cite them as inspiration. That really warms this old Goth/Metal dude’s heart! 🤘 ✌
I hate to be the one to inspire a do-over. But the ep is Tiny Dynamine, not Tiny Dynamite. And the track is Pearly Dewdrops' Drops not Pearly Dewdropses drops. Nothing personal, it just grates like nails down a chalboard hearing it. Kudos though for not saying The Cocteau Twins.
No worries, I think I had added a card noting those corrections in the original video. I'll make a note to add that in this one. Thanks for letting me know.
The portion where I talked about opening acts for the Heaven or Las Vegas tour. The Veldt was their opening act, but I mistakenly showed a picture of Majesty Crush.
I saw them perform live in a small night club in Hawaii in the early 1990's. Even though I was a huge fan and had all their cd's, it was a major disappointment. They are a great studio band, but not live.
Cocteau Twins were the best band ever. Their works until Love's easy Tears are complete masterpieces. But they shoul have ended after releasing that EP. Blue Bell Knoll shows a complete decadence of the band. For the first time, not all the songs are great songs. In fact, only half of them are. Heaven Or Las Vegas, the next, is a complete disaster. Easy, commercial and poor. The following albums, Four Calendar Cafe and Milk And Kisses are completely irrelevant. We can find there only a song that is good, Seekers Who Are Lovers. Fortunately we had Garlands, Treasure, Head Over Heels, Victorialand and all those great EPs.

I’ll still watch it again. Love the ‘84-‘86 era especially, and still think they are the most unique and beautiful-sounding group I’ve ever heard.
not so much music you listen to as a realm you visit.robin is spaghetti western beneath the northern lights.band is definition of extra ordinary

Milk & Kisses is such a beautiful album ❤❤ this band has changed my life forever
Agreed 💖💖 what I love about CT is that their style was frequently evolving, but consistentlygorgeous. .
Check out “Treasure”.

For me, HOLV is the worst thing they have released at 4AD.
I think Blue Bell Knoll is the one that I would say was the definitive CT album. But everyone will have their own choice.

Huge respect for taking it down to make a correction, and reuploading it, that’s not easy once it’s been out for a while!
Appreciate it, friend! Once I knew that error was there, I wasn't comfortable with having the video public until it was fixed.
By far one of my favorite bands of all time 🖤
Song to the Siren is a top 5 song of all time

CT=sounds from another world, there's no band like them. Simply unique❤ tks for the doc
Six decades of exploring music. Cocteau Twins come from an unearthly dimension, proof of extraterrestrial intelligence
"Garlands" is their best album. So fresh and uncontaminated.
Uncontaminated by their later discovery of their own aesthetic? 😉 Yes great album. But it sounds like other artists of the era.
A fascinating documentary of a truly ground-breaking group. I had the "ice blink luck" to see them live in Bristol, UK and they were truly amazing
P.S. EXCELLENT documentary; thank you so much for making it

They sound like a sneakpeak from heaven
One of the top four or five best bands ever to grace the Earth. I was fortunate to see them twice back in the day.
Some fans seem to be not so into Four Calendar Cafe, but i really love that album, too. The melodies on it are gorgeous. They never released a bad record in my opinion.
Thank you for putting this together.
Blue Bell Knoll is easily one of my 10 favorite albums… Carolyn’s Fingers is such a beautiful song

Great doc. You even learned how to pronounce Grangemouth properly. Well done 👍
I bought Garlands when it first came out. I still think it's their best!
They literally sound like heaven or young love . ❤️
Bought some of their stuff in the early 80s. Nice sound. Great voice
another great sound to come out of Scotland , try boards of canada too
I love that a little clip of Great Spangled Frittary made it in. I love that track.
I love them, and I saw them in Brixton, London. Treasure is my fav.
txs for that, i finaly found thoses melodies of my 20ies that inspired me so much.

Garlands is great. It blew me away and was my first intro to this band in 1983. The rest ia history, greatness
I was turned on to these guys while tripping very hard. It was immense, life changing.

Blue Bell.Knoll and Iceblink Luck two of the best tunes ever, haunting and spooky in a good way
