    This gig, like all those recorded for the TV series, took place at the Brixton Ace not the Brixton Academy. This Cocteau Twins performance was first broadcast on 8 November 1982 and therefore could, conceivably, have taken place just a few days before that. The series was repeated in January 1983 under the title of 'Whatever you Didn't Get'.

    This era of the band is hugely underrated. Will Heggie was an amazing bass player and he basically wrote all the bass riffs those songs were built upon.

    I hate the fact that I'm middle-aged but still too young too have truly appreciated this at the time. I had to endure Poison & Warrant & such crap before the second wave of artists such as Lush & MBV came along. This is a fantastic performance, or anti-performance, she appears to be totally oblivious to the audience and displaying a sort of righteous indignance. This is what TH-cam at its best is, a time capsule and a second chance to see art like this. Thanks for posting.

    I still have my ticket stub for this gig and yes, Killing Joke were the headline act. I remember their performance quite well despite the years. That was the first time I saw Killing Joke and have seen them a few times down the years most recently at the Bearded Theory festival this year and will be seeing them again in a few weeks time here in Dublin...

    They were so ahead of their time. Those going on a nostalgia trip should listen to Crystal Castles or Caribou or even Grimes here in the 21st century. The Cocteau's influenced more than even I as a 20+ year long fan could ever have imagined.

    Gosh, such genius. They really shook up the music world and made a mark on history. The Twins will always live on in my rotation of favorite music alongside The Smiths, Human League, Depeche Mode, and all the amazing New Wave acts of the 80's. I was born in '85....its totally in my blood.

    'Fireworks' by the Banshees is the blueprint for the early Cocteau Twins material - some stuff off 'Kaleidoscope' as well. I say that as a huge Coacteaus fan but it's an unavoidable lineage. I do think the Banshees progeny outstripped them by quite a bit, thinking of Dead Can Dance too!

    • @MrInterestingthings
      @MrInterestingthings 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Few bands ever had the sinister fun of the Banshees . Cocteaus and Dcd and many other bands got their blue prin and guitar sounds from Banshees. even 1 st album of Altered Images shows this . Who can blame them - wonderful thing is many of these bands found themselves and producers helped . None had the Fashin sense of siouxsie !!!

    Great footage. I remember this TV show with envy, Channel 4 didn't broadcast in my area (unless you lived on a hill - seriously!) until late 1983. And the minute we got C4 they stopped broadcasting progs like this with great line ups. Instead we got the over-rated Tube, which for every Cocteaus appearance there were 20X Paul Young,Tina Turner, King (remember them?) clips

      The whole point of that 1980s post-punk new wave was to be "not rock"; get away from blues, r&b, country, etc. and come up with something new, British, European, Celtic, Pagan, Gothic, futuristic, other-worldly, ...

      I missed it! I can't remember why😲 🍺?
      i guess you are probably over 50 too!😀
      I lived in London around then and forgotten about how many bands I saw, nearly every night.
      I didn't like living in a city at all and drank too much.
      Do you remember The Batcave in London by any chance?
      I'm near Winchester 👍 oh. By the way I once was invited by Jaz to an open audition in 84-85 because I was classically trained and could read music, plus I was, and i still am very politically motivated and
      educated in various politacal/economics/philosophy things!
      Other bands I had tickets for but missed sometimes due to stupidity;
      Van Halen 1978 or 1979 first time in UK.
      Sergovia(he died on tour in his 80s before he got to our venue).
      Eddie Brickell and the New Bohemians 1989.
      Soundgarden 1993.
      There must be lots of others!😵😱👍😀
