      My last labs were taken May this year. My triglycerides were 62 and HDL-C was 53. So that puts me at 1.17 which is optimal according to the formula. However that same month I tested my a1c and it was 6.1 which is pre-diabetes. Can you be pre-diabetic without having insulin resistance or is the formula just not accurate for me? 2021 I was 47/52 = .9 and a1c was 6.0. 2020 I was 79/48 = 1.6 and a1c was 5.9

      Last week, 3.08. I'm 6'1", 175 lbs. Never been overweight, eat pretty well and exercise at 42. Even when I was younger, ate low carb, exercised almost every day, and ate all those foods they say would fix your HDL and Tri's....my cholesterol has never changed. It's always shown the same results even when I did everything right. Not always an indication, but my glucose levels are good. It's entirely possible DNA is a factor and this ratio isn't always a great indicator of insulin resistance?

    • @DrAJ_LatinAmerica
      @DrAJ_LatinAmerica ปีที่แล้ว

      Menopause alone has no affect if the person is active, healthy and normal BMI. Affects are case by case, individual specific. No one factor applies to all women. Much depends on age, race, activity levels, sleep patterns, lifestyle, present health status, weight, hormone levels, present medications,.....

      Menopause does increase insulin resistance because of the estrogen. If you have no resistance before then the impact will be small but if you have IR before it will compound. Menopause definitely affects insulin.

I'm an amputee from the cancer from first time. I've tried so many different things but it isn't going down. I feel like I could starve myself and still it would be higher. My body chemistry has changed after the last chemo treatments and the Dr keeps wanting to give me more insulin and now wants me to take farsiga. I've eliminated even some good carbs because I notice it spikes insulin. drinking lots of water and small meals. I swear it has to be something going on besides just taking more insulin.

    • @HealthCoachKait
      @HealthCoachKait  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't think it matters too much if you go next week or next month., nyour trigs and HDL should still look good/improve at both points in time. It is a shame your doctor is focusing on LDL though because that isn't a strong indicator of anything. MOST people who have heart attacks have "normal" LDL.
      That said, like trigs and HDL changing fast with diet/lifestyle change, LDL can change fast too. It is relatively easy to manipulate LDL... which also goes to show it isn't a strong indicator of health or disease risk. Have you head of the Feldman Protocol before? Basically it requires eating way above your daily calorie and fat requirement for ~3 days before your blood test. And it drops LDL significnatly medium.com/food-equals-health/i-risked-death-by-cholesterol-in-the-name-of-science-and-productivity-2197d13f8d8e

    Keeping in mind anyone on hormone replacement therapy will have a lower HDL than normal. For example men with a perfect HDL level, then without making any other changes than taking TRT will generally see their HDL levels go down. Women can have similar issues. Therefore trig. / HDL not a good example or representative of what is actually going on. Other medications can cause triglycerides to go higher.

    Some experts believe insulin resistance is the underlying cause of most chronic health issues including heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some types of cancer. At the very least, it increases the risk for type 2 diabetes because of the stress it places on the pancreas to produce insulin. Eventually, the pancreas “tires” and can’t pump out enough insulin to take sugar into cells.
    Insulin resistance is strongly linked to obesity. Having lots of fat, especially deep in your abdominal cavity, creates inflammation. Why might this be? One theory is that in obese people fat cells expand to such a large size that they can’t get enough nutrients and oxygen. When they die, immune cells come on the scene and release inflammatory chemicals called cytokines that cause inflammation. It’s still not clear which comes first - inflammation or insulin resistance but they seem to egg each other on and create an inflammatory environment. It’s this ongoing inflammation that may fuel the development of health problems like heart disease or cancer.

    I m always hungry. Extreme hunger with anxiety, nervous, dizziness and very low fillings continiously. Even though eating i have some weight loss or constant weight. no any weight gain. Very frustating hunger fill irritates anger and anxious most of the time. Very irritating type hunger inside stomach. Is this Insulin resistance or something else ??

    Keto made me insulin resistant within maybe a month or two of doing it . I never had blood sugar issues before I did keto . Im 17 months off and still struggling but not as bad as I was maybe a year ago . My ratio was 1.3 so looks good as far as that . I been dealing with digestive issues throughout all of this , is why I tried keto , so not sure what is causing what fully .
