Would a person with insulance resistance could be considered to be diabetic: type 2?

    • @HealthCoachKait
      @HealthCoachKait  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

IR starts years before fasting blood sugar starts to rise. Someone with type 2 diabetes will be insulin resistant but someone who is insulin resistant might not be diabetic yet.

I have lost 27 lbs in three months ( I am 65) using your videos as an educational guide. I combine apple cider vinegar and fresh lemon and lemon juice to Perrier Water and ice and drink prior and during meals. I now eat no more than 2 meals a day and very much pay attention to what I am eating. And I am not hungry. Thank you for your videos. It is making a difference in my life.

My goal is drop another 55 lbs and hopefully put it behind me. For the most part I have eliminated breakfast but do eat lunch and dinner. Yes! A year on Keto now - waistline (about 4 inches smaller 36-32) and weight (-10%) also now smaller. No sugar cravings and although eating less, I am less hungry. Testosterone is normal although not sure what it was before Keto and cholesterol better despite eating foods they used to warn us about. I have found the keto diet fine and enjoyable but a bit difficult to keep to rigidly when travelling as too many foods on offer are carb rich fast foods. My sugar levels are considerably lower and classed as normal

My waist IS shrinking! I started this journey in February. Although I had known I was diabetic for a year, I ignored the diagnosis until I realized I was at a crossroads. My A1C went from 6.7 to 9 and I knew I couldn't ignore it any longer! With the help of watching videos like yours, Kait, and keeping carbs low with 16 hour fasting, I have lost over 40 pounds. I still have a long journey ahead but I am so happy seeing results.
I checked my A1C earlier this month and it is 5.0!!!!! I just came back from a 3 week vacation so I know I went off IF and my carbs increased a LOT but my fasting number in the morning was never above 115 and most days it was under 100 so hopefully that means I made good choices. Now that I am back home, my weight did not go up and in fact went down a couple of pounds so I'll consider it a win.
Every day is a struggle for me but knowing how food impacts my body has been a game changer and I owe it to people like Kait who have provided such a wealth of knowledge. Thank you!!

Kait, thank you so much for your hard work! I am a doctor but still in 2022 in medicine we are being taught the classic "food pyramid" which does not make sense from a physiological or anthropological point of view. I have started following your advice two months ago and so far i have noticed the following:
    1. waistline went from 76 to 69 cm
    2. not feeling hungry or sleepy after eating
    3. no sugar cravings, actually i eat less overall because i feel satiated with the type of food i am eating now

One of the biggest indicators for me that I was a T2 diabetic is that I was losing weight. I lost about a pound per month and couldn't explain why. Then once I found out I was IR, I went low carb and I lost even more. My waist is slimmer now than it has been since middle school. So why is it that in some people IR causes weight gain, and in others it causes weight loss? I wasn't obese or anything, I was about 222 pounds at 6'2", now I'm 192.

I am only seven days in to fasting 18/6 and returning back to a Keto diet plan. Already I feel so much better, I do not track my sugars daily but know from the diet I was keeping that things were out of control. Down 4.6 lbs in 7 days but the true gain is the energy I have. I am walking 3 miles a day and not even feeling tried afterwards. I hope to be in much better shape than I am now when my 70th birthday comes in November.

I've always only eaten in the evening, for most of my adult life, (I'm just turned 61 now) but did way too much late night snacking once I did start eating. I stopped all that 16 months ago and am now 84 lbs lighter, and lost about 15 inches from my middle ( and hips) It wasn't really hunger, as I have always been able to go many hours without food, but more boredom eating I think. Alcohol played a part too, which I also stopped. I don't even know if I was ever insulin resistant, but I'm guessing I probably was, due to my oversized "waist"

Then right around 17 hours, I warm up and wrap up my fast for the day. Ever heard of someone experiencing this as a symptom of insulin reversal?

I fell off the wagon AGAIN and I am experiencing all of these symptoms such as lower satiety, increased sugar cravings and lower sex drive all after going off plan for a week or so. This summer I have not had as much success being 110% strict on myself as I was last year. Those summer beers really add up quick. I'm still down 60 pounds so there's that. This is really hard and I haven't been able to let up one second without seeing an immediate plunge to the old me. Got to pick myself up. The good news is that since I have been following you and others my health has improved tremendously, so sometimes you must look at the bright side. Thanks

I always refer back to your hour timeline of fasting benefits, autophagy and hgh production. Got several vitamin supplements, and finally don’t have 24/7 hunger problems. Short bowel syndrome i sliced +-20ft of intestines out in a motorcycle wreck. Cutting processed carbs and sugar has made a world of difference in feeling health wellness and wellbeing, however its hard to do keto because i think i absorb fat deficiently. Question, would collagen with vitamins in the morning “break my fast” in the hour timeine toward autophagy and fasting benefits?

Kait, I’ve lost 9 pounds since 5/8/22. I know that’s not setting any records for speed, but I’m 61, have fibromyalgia, retired, no longer smoking like I did when I was young, and 10 years past menopause. It seemed like each of those steps had me putting on weight. I tell you, this is the first time in probably 10 years that I’ve actually seen the scale go down. I’ve been doing “dirty” keto (far from perfect for sure) and intermittent fasting. And what made me actually step on the scale a few days ago was just that I felt thinner, like I could bend and breath easier. My arms don’t feel so far away from my body… I have a long way to go, but just seeing the scale move has me motivated. I am going to keep doing what I’ve been doing. I’m hoping that as I lose a few more, maybe my knees and hips and back will feel a little better, and I’ll be able to up my steps. Thanks for all you do trying to teach us all. Have a great weekend!

Hi, it's good to hear you are going in the right direction. I was diagnosed with PRE type 2 diabetes earlier this year. I've cut out the foods that contain the most sugar and cut out all the snacking, I was quite surprised how the weight started to come off. I don't get on the scales every week, but the last time I did get weighed, I had lost just over a stone. I just need more education on how to deal with my diagnosis of PRE type 2 diabetes, from my GP it was like you have this condition go away and deal with it. Hoping to learn more from watching Kate's videos.

Hi Kait, your videos are super helpful. I have followed your advice on ACV (at night only), Berberine supplement (1-2x day before or right after meals), restricting carbs to 80g/day and doing 10mins of body weights or 30min brisk walking (as my schedule allows) and I noticed my waist shrinking (down 1inch), and weight loss of 7lbs over 3.5 months. However, my menstrual cycles are fluctuating, last one was 20 days apart and prior to that 50days apart. Why would that happen? Shouldn’t we expect to normalize in 28-35day range? My cycles were typically 30-32 days apart before I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism which later developed into PCOS (my markers being irregular periods, facial hair and acne).

My mom is not statistically significant or peer reviewed but her experience has had real significance among her circle of friends and family.
2 years ago, my 80 year old mother finally had a follow up appointment with her physician which was delayed for months because her doctor has been in charge of treating Covid patients in the hospital and in nursing homes and was not able to meet with her.
She had a full blood panel taken for this visit and her doctor was astounded at the progress she had made during the last year. She is now no longer diabetic and she was instructed to stop taking insulin after having been on it for 12 years. Her doctor also praised her kidney function which has never looked better. Also, she couldn't believe that her total cholesterol was only 139, with LDL of 67, HDL of 60, and triglycerides of 82 which is a big improvement for her. According to the Framingham Heart Study, these numbers mean that she is virtually "heart attack proof" as many plant based doctors have noted.
Her physician mentioned that she is reconsidering the diet for her family based on this experience. She also asked my mom to share her experience with our community after the pandemic. All of these results are exactly what I had hoped would occur. Here is the menu that I had developed for her to try to mimic what she was used to eating -> "GSP Mother's Menu" - While this menu is not a pure whole foods plant based diet, it appears to be health promoting enough to work for her. My understanding is that low carb diets are a workaround that do not address the root cause of diabetes which is excess intramyocellular lipids and the resulting insulin resistance (excess saturated fats and refined sugar/flour are the most common cause of this metabolic system failure). Cheers!

I've spent the last over year and a half making changes to fix my hoshimotoes which caused my insulin resistance. I'm a 35 f. My periods were very painful, suoer heavy bleeding, and a bit inconsistent. I have hypoglycemia, I have weight probs, etc. I do check the scale, and don't use a measuring tape to measure my waist because I have no clue how to. I do know that I'm constantly having to take in shirts and pants, and it looks like I might have to get my bra size measured and buy new bras. I've lost enough gat that the circumference bands on my bras are not supporting right anymore, and I'm not sure if my I cup boobs have gone down a bit or not. Being part of the big titty committee, I'm not gonna likeky end up smaller than a d cup. And in all honesty, my boobs shrinking a bit would be nice since I have back pain. Big boobs plus back injury plus chronic pack pain is not a fun combo pack. My weight was so bad I definately had a sway back. It's, straightening which also helps my back pain. I started keto and intermittent fasting Jan this year, spent a year weaning down to that. My start carb limit was 50 g net, current is 35. My start fadt window was 12, current is 15. My start weight was over 250 pounds, probably more like 260-270. Healthy weight would be a max of 130. My logged weigh in yesterday pegged me at 189.1. So not too bad. I do track cals and macros as well as journal my intake. This is to show my dietician and to help me meal plan better. I know it's a bit obsessive, but I have bad habits of stress and overeating. Plus, I'm a junk food junkie. I like to treat myself, but I want to regulate myself better and rralky train myself to do healthy habits. I will say I rarely crave sugar anymore. I rarels crave complex carbs. I'm not hungry for more than 2 meals max. And I'm often more thirsty than hungry. I don't get super hungry while fasting until I'm about to fix food. It's not super consitiant signs but it's definately noticable and I'm quite happy.

With those numbers, that doesn’t mean your body isn’t starting to reverse to repair sensitivity, because it is becoming sensitive.
