Steve Ellis is one of the best British voices of all time, he's still out there preforming and just as good. Their biggest hit was "Everlasting Love", it was the first song I saw on "Top of the Pops" when I was a kid. The female backing singer was Kiki Dee. One of my all time favourite songs. Thank you for posting.

Their first song Everlasting Love was also a cover of Robert Knight's US soul hit. I think I read when me met Love Affair he wasn't too happy about the whole thing.

Steve Ellis best singer ever
This song was recorded by English studio and session musicians and an orchestra (Keith Mansfield). Only the young singer Steve Ellis was from The Love Affair, guess those players were just too lousy, so the producers used other musicians. So do not take those videos and this one here for real ! They are only pretending to sing or playing, just playback. Of course the band existed surely in reality. The female singer who sung the line in the middle of this song ("So leave me where the rainbow ends,
In our valley") was Sue Glover or Sunny Leslie (siblings in reality and well-known background singer and also singer of the band The Brotherhood of Man at that time). The same happened in the band's hits "Everlasting love", their biggest one and "A day without love", only session musicians and female backing vocal singer from London were recording those songs and of course as lead singer Steve Ellis !

I haven't heard this for years ...... 1960s probably. Their biggest hit was 'Everlasting Love' which was number one hit in the UK.

@philmacfox Hi Philmacfox. Thanks for the comment. Robert did sing EL first. You are correct but he also sang this one before them as well. Both songs were on his 1967 album 🥰

Hi Sue, this band came and went when I was very young. The band had a number of pop hits, before losing favour with a less pop album & disbanding. The lead singer, Steve Ellis has continued to perform until this day. Not someone I have ever seen live. The band were all male and used a backing female vocalist. Like many, my favourite song of thiers is Everlasting Love, a UK number one & another cover of a Robert Knight song. Rainbow valley is along similar lines, but not quiet as good in my view. It is bright, breezy & a feel good song. Bringing On Back The Good Times is another fine song by the band.

I know it by Carl Carlton but not Love Affair so it should be cool to check out the differences or similarities. check out their biggest hit everlasting love , the singer steve ellis is still around , they were all tennagers with the drummer only 14/15 , the instruments were all faked .

Quite a good song, Sue .. It has a lot in common with their No.1 UK hit "Everlasting Love", which is a timeless pop classic .. Both songs were written by the same songwriting team ( Buzz Cason / Matt Gayden ), and originally recorded by Robert Knight, an artist on the record label owned by those songwriters .. Also, the arrangements were extremely similar, and apparently all the instruments were played by session musicians on both recordings .. BTW, singer Steve Ellis was only 16 on Everlasting Love and 17 on this one .. Like Stevie Winwood and Alex Chilton, he sounded very mature for his age.

@playitagainsue Yes Sue, it's the same song, and Carl's version is great .. Been covered by many artists, including U2, Rex Smith & Rachel Sweet, Sandra, and more .. It's one of those songs that is so strong that it's pretty much impossible to do it badly .. My favourite version is still by Love Affair.

This is a cover and i know Love Affair also covered and had a hit with Everlasting Love which is similar in sound a feel

I would recommend anyone to check out The Lemon Twigs new album A Dream is All we Know , it came out a few week ago and I think you would love it
They are on the road this fall and are hitting NYC and Toronto in October
I usually don’t plan that far ahead but these tickets will go fast
Great collection of song titles there, Jesse, and they're all among my faves for the bands concerned .. I've got a number of UK 60s compilation albums, so we probably share some in common, and as you said, there's just so many wonderful songs on them from a fantastic period in music.

But I've been meaning to tell you how very impressive your musical experience is .. You seem to have lived and breathed it, and there has hardly been an artist or song that you don't know of .. Plus you pretty much always have something interesting to share about them, including personal experience in many cases .. I'm sure Sue is thrilled to have you as a contributor. ..
