    The Faces are an offshoot of one of the great bands of the sixties, The Small Faces. After the incredible vocalist, Steve Marriott, left to form Humble Pie, the remaining members (Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagen, and Kenney Jones) formed the Faces with Ron Wood and Rod Stewart. They dropped the "Small" from the name because Wood and Stewart were much taller than the other members. The Small Faces are well worth checking out to hear Marriott's soulful vocals along with the great songwriting and musical chops.

      Bubblegum?!?! Steve Marriott is rolling over in his grave! Small Faces were a hot, raving R&B band before their awful manger and the record company made them record songs that were sure to be "hits". The band thought of themselves a soul boys, so that killed them. Sadly, because they were small and adorable, the teeny boppers overwhelmed them, so they felt they were not taken seriously as musicians. This is one of the reasons Marriott quit the band to become a rocker with Humble Pie.

    Rod Stewart is at his best as a raunchy, loose, and carefree singer, as he was early in his career. With Faces abd as a solo artist, his charm and talent as a vocalist is irresistible. After the success of his album Footloose and Fancy Free, he decided to become more commercial in his music. Only occasionally giving us flashes of his old self during his 8o's heyday.
    But once a scoundrel, you can never be satisfied with just putting out records to pay the bills. Your nature can not be denied, and in these songs, they do.
    EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY,
    BORN LOOSE, my personal favorite.
    CRAZY ABOUT HER,

    Fun fact: a number of Rod Stewart’s early albums featured the Faces as contract musicians. They were defacto Faces albums, albeit unofficially.

    I saw Rod Stewart perform this with Tina Turner and Kim Carnes. Clearly you can hear where the Black Crowes got their inspiration from and that's what I think struck a chord with people. A retro sound at the right time!

    • @quoilluminentur2981
      @quoilluminentur2981 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Black Crowes weren't as inspired as much as they brought the music home, where it came from in the first place. It was bands like the Faces who were the imitators.

      @@quoilluminentur2981 True, the 70's were loaded. As a longtime Rod Stewart fan, them and the Stones were to first 2 bands I thought of when I first heard the Black Crowes.

    • @quoilluminentur2981
      @quoilluminentur2981 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seanswinton6242 What *is* true is the 70s (and the 60s) were loaded with bands such as The Faces and Rod Stewart, as well as the Stones, Beatles, Yardbirds, Doors, Canned Heat, Animals, Rare Earth, Humble Pie, etc., who were marketed to clueless kids as the genuine issue; when, in fact, they were little more than over-hyped imitators of American R&B, Soul and Rock acts from the 50s and 60s. The less corporate-minded individuals among them would freely admit this, happy to take the lid off the fraud. Sure, they later added some window-dressing along the way, Dylan influences, Indian stylings, heavy borrowing from Pet Sounds, over-driven amplification, effects, but ... the music was, at it's core, unchanged. So, when I first heard The Black Crowes, acts like Muddy Waters, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and Ray Charles came to mind. The Stones and The Faces would likely tell you the same. They know they didn't come up with the style they played. It's their fans who persist in the myth, unfortunately.
      By the way, by the time Stewart was appearing with the likes of Kim Carnes and Tina Turner, he was closer to a lounge revue act, while hoping to sound current with synthesizer-pop. **Nothing** he did then would've given rise to The Black Crowes. You would have wanted to catch Rod between 1968-72.
