    Steve Ellis, the singer, was 17. The drummer was 14. The song was recorded in just 2 takes, in those days people had to sing live. No autotune, no corrections at all. That's him, at 17. Unbelievable,. One of myfavourite songs of all time. :)

    I could play this every day. You CANNOT get too much of this. Steve's voice is amazing (still is). Props to Keith Mansfield Orchestra for blowing the original soul version by Robert Knight out of the water! Very, very few British covers ever beat the Soul originals. One of the greatest pop records of all time.

    of course he's English
    this is a VERY POWERFUL song, with great contrasts of highs & lows in the arrangement, he could almost be a coloured singer, I'm...mature enough to remember when this song was released & that's what I thought at the time (having never actually seen him)
    this was destined to be a 60s classic & it is.
    very Northern soul in it's style to.

      @@TysheenOrane Thanks for the 'heart' Tysheen! I think I've got a bit obsessed with this song, and this group. To be honest, I think I have a crush on Steve Ellis LOL!!!! I checked up on the two ladies in the video, the bowler hatted girl (I thought she was a bloke first of all !) is an Austrian actress, and the other girl is a model called Susan Mathews. Never heard of either of them, haha! Love your channel, Tysheen. Bring on back the good times sweetie !!! Lots of love XXXX

    Tysheen , Singer is Steve Ellis, think he lives in Sussex now in UK. This was a cover and the band were only the face of the video, Steve sang it and it was produced to replicate the motown sound. The band did not have a lot of talent and split soon after their 15 mins of fame. The instruments were played by session musicians.
    I saw Steve Ellis 20 years ago in Winchester UK and sounded great, he still gigs, but mainly gigs in Throw back shows in the UK. In his own name. But this song is great and I prefer this to the Robert Knight version which is my second choice. If the slim lady in the video is Steves mum, she is well fit.
    I like the sound of your voice very homely.

    Steve Ellis the lead singer was 17. Fantastic voice! Kudos to all involved making this a great timelinless song. Either if its them, Robert Knight, Carl Carlton or Gloria Estefan i love this fantastic song and i always will. Tho my favorite was by Carl Carlton. Steve Ellis actually left a comment on someones channel doing music reactions. How cool is that. 😎

    your reaction was good but flawed. The drummer, bass player and guitar player did not play on this lip-synced recording. Only Steve Ellis sang on this original recording. All other instruments were played by top studios players probably in the London area.

  • @mgrella63

    Steve ellis(lead singer) said that the band did not play on this record. It was a 40 piece orchestra in the background. There was alot of fallout because of that for the band.

    the date is wrong (maybe deliberate) released 8 Dec 1967. The Keith Mansfield Orchestra (the arranger for this) make the track , - thats not detracting from the group themselves) , and Mike Smith's production make this a CBS (UK) great great song of the sixities.

    • @10lassie
      @10lassie ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your right about Mansfield. Do you know who the bass player and drummer were ? was Mike Smith and DC 5 Mike Smith the same guy ?

    • @highpath4776
      @highpath4776 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@10lassie I think Drummer was 15yrs old in the group and the bass player was also young, they were capable gigging guys, Mansfield added the commercial oomph, and no DC5's Mike Smith was not the CBS (and sometimes Decca) producer Mike Smith)- Discogs may have better biographies

    Tysheen, you only played a few seconds of this British version (the great original version was in 1967 by Robert Knight (American)) so I guess you were blocked again but maybe that is partly because you rather oddly say that you "don't care about copyright" and perhaps the copyright holder was advised of that. Not sure why you say that as you would care if you owned copyrights to songs you create/sing and reactors were using your songs here without your permission. You do display a copyright disclaimer above in your notes however maybe the copyright holder thinks you are making money off of your reaction videos. Could you not get in touch with the band or copyright holder to see if you can satisy any concerns they might have?
