    The United States tightened their grip on the women’s 4x400m, winning their seventh straight Olympic gold medal in the event at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium. A star-studded quartet made up of U.S. track icon Allyson Felix, world 400m hurdles record holder Sydney McClaughlin, Athing Mu, and Dalilah Muhammad blazed to victory in a season’s best 3:16.85. U.S. legend Allyson Felix claimed a record 11th Olympic medal in the process while Poland earned the silver medal and Jamaica bronze.

      It is, but I always return to the video of the women's 4x100m in London 2012. Madison to Felix to Knight to Jeter. It really doesn't get any better than that.

      @@dlbutler true, the women’s 4x100 in London was incredible. But this 4x400 team had 2 world record holders in the 400 hurdles, the most decorated US Olympian ever, and the Olympic champion at 800m. They basically assembled the Avengers.

      @@devinmartin9423 True. It was a celebrity lineup, but Madison holding with, and even slightly exceeding, the Jamaican on leg one; Felix blowing past Schippers on leg two; Knight digging around the curve on leg three; and Jeter levitating above the track on leg four, all handoffs flawlessly executed...Jeter pointing at the clock as she's crossing the line, knowing the record's been not broken, but obliterated...It was a thing of beauty, a moment that we may never see again. Truly inspirational. Watching this just makes you feel better about life.

      It is worth mentioning that in the first half of 2021 the Polish team was demolished by injuries. In early July the Poles thought that they would be fighting for the bronze medal. After Justyna Święty's injury (quadriceps tear) it seemed that their chances for a medal had almost disappeared.
      Under these conditions the silver medal was a big success.
      If Justyna had been in top form in Tokyo the Polish team would have broken the 3:20-second barrier.

      @@saintsone7877Pfft, margins are irrelevant. What you failed to mention is, this team's time is the 5th fastest in history. The US squads from 1988 (3:15:51) and 1993 (3:16:71), currently ranked 2nd and 4th all-time respectively), ran faster American times. Per Allyson, none of these runners are true 400m specialists, and that's what make this victory more spectacular.

    • @saintsone7877
      @saintsone7877 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FourSeasons04 True but being or not being 400m specialists is also a mute point. Many who run 400m at international level are not 400m specialists. Many are ex sprinters who have lost the speed to continue so move to longer distances. Take 400m hurdlers. A top hurdler automatically becomes a top 400m runner with minimal switching in training. So a world record 400m hurdler will be a world record 400m sprinter as the strain on the body is actually reduced when they switch from hurdles to flat sprinting. Add a world class 800 m runner USA basically had 4 world class 400m runners no matter what their specialty was.
      What was remarkable here was how far off the world record they were as on times they should have been capable of smashing the record. They simply did not run to their best which again is frightening as it shows how far the rest of the world is behind them.
      Funny that only 2 nations have not gone backwards on world class times since stricter drug testing was introduced. The 2 nations who are exempt from random, unannounced testing from WADA officials and outside of international events do all their testing in house so to speak. USA and Jamaica. All other nations are signed up to WADA testing regime.
      No-one appears to be able to explain why USA and Jamaica are exempt from this regime. In a world of so-called equality etc why are USA and Jamaica exempt?

      @@saintsone7877Nope, Allyson ran the prior day. All four US runners ran heats/semis/finals in their individual races which were later in the games. The 4x400 mixed had heats and finals. I believe Kazmarek(sp) was the only Polish runner to make it to the semi's in the 400m, and she did not run in this relay's heats. @@saintsone7877 Once again, you're incorrect. Poland had the advantage of running the mixed relay earlier in the games and it was heats and final only. Kaczmarek was the only runner to qualify for an individual event, 400m, and she didn't make it past the semis nor did she compete in the relay heats. The US runners ran their races later in the games; heats, semis, and finals. Further, Allyson competed in the 400m final the day before the 4x400 relay final. Justyna Święty and Iga Baumgart also qualified for the Olympics in the 400m. But in Tokyo they decided not to start in the individual 400m. This year Justyna has serious health problems. And to make things worse in July she injured the quadriceps muscle in her second leg. Iga also had an injury. In the first half of 2021 she was unable to attend any events. The 4×400 metres relay was much more important for them, so they were taking no chances.

      @@FourSeasons04 I assumed that Justyna and Iga also ran in individual heats and possible semis because they had qualified so accept was wrong. In Australia on free to air they focused on events with Aussies participating so did not see heats of individuals. Irrespective these are professional athletes and running 2-3 400m in one day is childs play for them.
      In 2018 Justyna ran the final of individual 400m and won as well as final of 4x400m relay as anchor and won that as well 45minutes later so to suggest running the next day or 2 days later somehow hampers the run of USA participants is balderdash. Focusing on the Jamaicans. McGregor ran a great 1st leg, Russell really dominated that second leg, Jackson obviously tired but she delivered, McLeod, who me? Naa leave without a medal! Fantastic job ladies, the story behind this bronze its a Gold for us. 🇯🇲❤ USA come truu with unu gold body 😁 Poland I see you too xx

      That water is issued for free. However, it was very thoughtful of her to bring some for her team mates after a well deserved run and medal grab

      Agreed! Every Team USA relay leg was either an Olympic Champion, World Champion, NCAA Champion or some combination of those titles.
