    The USA's Sydney McLaughlin has set a new world record with a phenomenal run in the women's 400m hurdles final. The new Olympic champion broke her own world-best mark of 51.90, storming past compatriot Dalilah Muhammad down the home straight to win the Olympic gold medal in 51.46 seconds. Muhammad - the Rio 2016 Olympic champion - took silver, going under 52 seconds in a time that also broke the former world record (51.58). Femke Bol of the Netherlands finished third in a new European record of 52.03.
    The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games took place in Japan, from July 23, 2021 to August 8, 2021.

    Femke Bol because of her happy, optimistic attitude who loves every detail of her sport reminds me of Willie Mays; and because she never gets tired of competing in the sport she loves, competes weekly, whenever a competition is available and doesn't only wait for the yearly big meets, reminds me of Joe Louis who never stopped defending his title month to month his whole career; he didn't wait until once a year for the big bout like the rest of the heavyweight champions. Amazingly, after making history by becoming the first woman to run under 52 seconds in the 400m hurdles, Sydney made history again by breaking a world record in her own name.
    Dalilah also made history by becoming the second woman to run in under 52 seconds.
    Meanwhile, Femke Bol who finished in third place also performed superbly, having barely run under 52 seconds (only 0.04 seconds slower).

    Excellent to see 3 clean athletes taking the medals, in a sensational race. They've taken the event to dizzying new heights. McLaughlin vs Bol over the next decade is going to create some amazing races and amazing results. Muhammed had had a fantastic career but the other two are the future. Exciting times

    Don't want to criticize the commentators but the commentary wasn't great. It just didn't have the epicness of the commentary like in 2016 Rio when Van Niekerk broke the world record.

    • @kauze_
      @kauze_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, it's kind of expected when we're talking about a WR that gets broken 4 times in the span of 3 years. It's become so predictable it's almost boring.

    • @shanonfernando1326
      @shanonfernando1326 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree! The commentary after Van Niekerk broke that world record literally gave me goosebumps. The commentary can make a moment like that much more memorable and inspiring. We need epic commentary like that for all races or at least the ones where world records are broken

      @@brightblue2415 ideally they should upload it 1-2 hours after the race is done. This year I was supposed to go to tokyo to see all the finals live but I was not allowed due to some communicable disease issue they said in Japan.

    I think Femke needs to change it from 15 steps to 16 steps for the last two hurdles, like what karsten walhorm does, to prevent loosing the momentum just to keep up the 15 steps.
