What a Final ! Mariya Lasitskene was down in 9th place after two failures at 1.96 and on the brink of elimination. You could feel the tension as she was walking up and down preparing for her third attempt and then.........Stop !......she has to wait for a National anthem to be played. The GOAT of high jump, she won 2 olympic gold medals and all major tournaments in between. The Rio gold was given to her from all sporting world . Mariyia Lasitskene (Kushina)
Maria is a fantastic athlete and incredibly consistent. She routinely surpasses 2M when others are lucky to get 1.9M. She would have two golds if the Russians hadn’t beat banned as cheats in 2016. Maria might one day break the world record. She and Blanca Vlassic are my all-time favorites.
I was so thrilled for Mariya. Best in the world for so long. 45 event winning streak. But denied an Olympic appearance during her absolute prime. Her legacy and mental calm were riding on this one outcome. Then nearly out twice...at 1.95 in qualifying and 1.96 during the final. I knew she would be overcome with emotion upon gold
I'm sooo happy for Maria! Finally, her time has come even 5 years too late. Also, I'm impressed with Safina. Her first global final, 0 experience and she has the confidence to pass at 1.84m!
if I recall correctly Safina had only one failure in qualifying and they went up to 1.96. I think McDermott was the only perfect qualifier. Safina is definitely on the radar for the future!
@@gregoryschreiter8505 McDermott and Vukovic were the only ones with a clear card in qualifying. Even Lasitskene and Cunningham needed 3 attempts at 1.95m.
Truly a well deserved gold medal to add to Mariya’s multiple world championships for one of the most dominant high jumpers and athletes for nearly a decade! She’s normally so stoic when she jumps whether she makes it or not and this is the first time I’ve seen her show such emotion on a big stage so you know it meant a lot to her. Ukraine also has got a bright future with their young jumpers! McDermott was great and truly ‘rose’ to the occasion so it was just a great competition all around!
HOW did she do it? Last attempt at 1.96, and she does it. She had been folding at 1.95+, all year long leading up to the Olympics. You could literally see the writing on the wall, just as that announcer dude was saying - the BEST high jumper to not win an Olympic gold. It's rare when you find a 'magical' athlete, like this. That look on her face of hope and fear. NO one like her. THE best moment in the Olympics, if you are a big fan of 'the Shadow Chick,' aka Mariya Lasitskene. Also. Never seen her emotional before. The Olympic Committee screwed the Russian Track n Field team at the Rio Games, when she was unbeatable. Must be this HUGE weight off her shoulders. I'm hoping Putin gave her something better, when the athletes went to meet with him. She deserved it. And yet, NObody, who had seen her compete this year, thought she was even going to medal. She misses that attempt at 1.96m. She's out of the top 10.
This is a beautiful event and these women are incredible! Technique, poise, emotion, hard work... congratulations to Lasitskene and all the medalists and participants! - WW

Was really pulling for McDermott. Congrats on silver. She seems sooooo sweet! That smile!!!! Go girl 👍❤💪
Why she wasn't in Rio?
@@das81 she’s Russian. Russia was banned from Rio Olympics
Mariya is the real queen.
We, men of culture, have once again gathered to take part in the spectating of this great and most prestigious sport.
No No, nothinhg more from Putin. Please, she deserve all the best! No dirty......
Love Mariya LASITSKENE ❤️🥰
All of them are great - Yuliya, Iryna, Nicola, Yaroslava and, of course, Maria. So happy for her, her victory
This is a superior presentation of the 2021 Olympic Women's High Jump. Very well done.
This is a beautiful event and these women are incredible! Technique, poise, emotion, hard work... congratulations to Lasitskene and all the medalists and participants! - WW
When I think of the Tokyo Olympics 2020, I will never forget great Mariya Lasitskene, Eliud Kipchoge and absolutely wonderful medal ceremony music.
That's really cute, knowing Mcdermott wrote something into her diary book every attempt!!! 1:04:15
Seems like she really workhard and pursue her dream well!!!
She is a hard worker, and a top candidate for gold medals in the next olympics.
Great final and best commentating I have heard in this Olympics. Very knowledgeable and supportive of all of the athletes. Thank you Guys. You called this so well. C

Lasitkene's technique is excellent.
This is poetry in motion combined with great technology! Congratulations everyone!
This is not pole vault, but this high jump
also, narration is not in english but in another language where all vowels are translated as 'ee'
I had my suspicions when they mentioned that a couple of them had jumped over 2 metres...
Uploader drunk 🥴🥴, not yet deleted video hahahaha
😂😂😂😂
@Bernard Bout I am aware. just wanted to point out how annoying it is :) But it is still an accent. not his fault
Absolutely brilliant ❤️
Congratulations Mariya Lasitskene
McDermott is so entertaining to watch 👍🔥🤩
kept thinking they would replay that last jump. Thought she was clear

I'm happy for Safina she had child (6month) and she wasnt competing any worlds or big compititions. But here she earned is 6th place (196sm). 👏👏👏👏👏
Mcdermott gave it all! Her smile is very infectious. What a great finals.

❤❤❤ Maria, Nicola and Yaroslava - amazing competition! Nicola, Yaroslava, don't worry, you are so young!
I love the amount of pathos McDermott gatters before each jump.
I was so touched when Mariya won her 1st gold in her 1st olympics event, knowing that her journey to olympics is not easy. It is probably the 1st time seeing as she had so much emotion throughout the whole session esp she won the gold that night.
She is a machine, not(very very rare) showing any emotion before she won the competitio. So proud of her.
Love from Malaysia 🇲🇾
And Mahuchikh may get her gold at Paris 2024.
I have a feeling nicola mcdermott will get the gold in paris..
I'm from in Vietnam..I love MARY ❤️
I consider it her second, no disrespect to Ruth, who Masha respects very much.
it’s so nice to see each competitor to congratulate lasitskene🥺🥺🥺
Lasitskene you are a great champion..
Even though they got the title wrong, I'm still totally enjoying this 😄

Lasitskene))) Great Champion!!!
Luv the Queen, truly a dark beauty! What extraordinary confidence and bravati to throw a kiss to everyone at 234:19 just before Nicola jumped and Mariya won gold ... pure class!!
