I stumbled onto BatLantern fics last year when I was looking for something new and I absolutely love the pairing now. There's an amazing author on AO3 named FabulaRasa who writes really compelling Hal/Bruce stories. He/she (I'm not sure) has a way of writing them in such a believable way. I've read Sanctuary 3 times already and the companion to it was just finished a few weeks ago. It's definitely worth a read, but one should pay attention to the trigger warnings, just in case, cause it touches on some pretty tough subjects.
Anyway, BatLatern is probably my favorite DC pairing at this point. Followed closely by Cold/Flash and lastly SuperBat. I guess I really like the "opposites attract" thing. lol

I am actually a Green Lantern fan, maybe its mostly due to the animated version, or Hals easygoing, with not much regard for the authority personality, but when it comes to Batman, I am more invested in the Batfamily then in the dark knight himself, so on one hand I am, yes good interesting ship, on the other I am going, I don't know if I am intrested enought in a Batman centric interaction to be invested, so it's rime to check the ship out and see
[Gasp] Batlantern~~! I had always enjoyed their relationship in the comics and after the New52 (despite not being my favourite) made me actually invested in their relationship and how their personalities bounced off each other. It was different from Wonder Woman or Superman, and I often found myself wanting more of an exploration. Though, I didn't ship them romantically. It was more of an interest in their ideologies and outlook on life (Batman is always just a great contrast with any hero or villain.)
Then the films happened and ooof XD Seeing the underground scene play out just made my shippers brain go off and the identity reveal was just the cherry on top. It may have been Nathan Fillion's performance as well that just made Hal so much more likable (probably my love for Nathan Fillion just bled into Hal if i'm being honest.) All in all, it is an interesting ship and the fics I've read had been different from anything i've read before.
Mr. Fillion has no business being as likable as he is. Not fair at all!

I started shipping BatLantern becuase of the movie too. There was too much chemistry to at least not think about them as a couple. The ship's fanworks are really good and quite enjoyable when I'm in the mood for it. Also, I'm surprised HalSinestro wasn't mention because that's a huge Hal Jordan ship. The drama between those two is on par with BatJokes.

To be honest I’m more of a HalBarry shipper( there is this fix in which Hal and Barry co parent Wally) but somehow without fail every year I check out the BatLantern page on AO3 and reread it all. There is just something about shipping Bruce and Hal that is just enjoyable

I ship Batman like I ship Nightwing, with anyone and everyone
1) God I love this ship! There’s so much opportunity to work with their contrasting personalities, and there’s some really cool ideas played with in the fanfics, like Hal being super cool with all of Bruce’s kids, or the long distances apart that would be caused by Hal’s job, or the rest of the League being shocked/appalled by them getting together, I could seriously just go on and on!
2) Hal has some really good ships outside of Barry and Bruce, too. I think Hal/Sinestro is probably my rarest DC pair, but I love the history they have, and there’s one or two great fics about Hal siding with him when Sinestro leaves the GL corps, because it kinda makes sense for Hal to side with his friend rather than a kinda dickish law enforcement council. Also some great fics of Hal co-parenting Soranik. Hal/Sinestro can also lead me to Hal/Parallax, which can get WEIRD, but I love it!
I love this ship. I start shiping it a year ago because of the animated movies and I'm so shook that you did a video with them.
Not going to lie, when I saw the card for this I dropped my phone on my face and yelled! This has been my DC OTP since new 52 dropped and probably my rarest ship since I don't usually trend towards the "bigger" ships lol so seeing it get some more attention is AWESOME!

Great video! I have to admit that i never thought of this two characters in a romantic relationship, mostly because after his return from the dead, hal never really appealed me as a character.

1. Nah I don't ship Batlantern. I'm too loyal to both Superbat and Hal/Sinestro plus I just don't see their personalities gelling all that well. I can see the appeal though.
2. I ship Guy Gardner and Lobo. No, seriously lol. I've only found about 5 fanfics about them. All by the same author, at that. I feel like it's inherently kinda dumb to ship a joke character like Lobo with anyone but the few interactions I've read between them have always been pretty humorous and fun. Guy didn't always get along as well as he does now with the Justice League or even the other Lanterns and went through somewhat of an anti-hero phase for a long time in the 80s/90s and out of most hero characters Lobo interacts with he seems to get along with Guy better than a hell of a lot of them so it made sense in my head that Guy would enjoy the company of someone like Lobo who wasn't harsh on him like the JL/GLs were in the past and who had a lot of mutual interests/similar personality traits, at least when Lobo's on his best behavior and not committing genocide lol. Plus Guy Gardner Reborn in particular made me a big shipper of these two.
Honorable mentions to my other DC rarepairs; Hal/Constantine, Batman/Deathstroke, Vril Dox II/Garryn Bek and the 10 or so Midnighter crackships only I ship.
3. I enjoyed a lot of parts of the New 52...and hated others. I think there's too much hate for it personally but honestly I don't remember much of it these days. Red Robin in particular was lit.
To be honest I never even thought of this but now that I see it I'm totally a big fan of the ship batlantern.

OK SO essay time: I didn't used to know about Batlantern even though I was always a fan of Batman and Green Lantern when I first into comics in 2010-12. I somehow never thought about these two together. Then suddenly, I get back into DC Comics in 2018 and completely fall for this ship (and immediately consume+re-consume all their comic interactions). I don't know why I didn't notice it before but I think it's because Tumblr era 2011-2012 was before the 2014 JL: War movie made the ship somewhat more popular and I just never saw it- it's interesting how fandoms evolve. (Also probably my taste changed)
Since I can't say I call this that much of a rare pair (in terms of fan content available) my rarest DC ship is probably Jessica(Green Lantern)/Kori(Starfire)

The new 52 holds a special place in my heart because those were the first DC comics I started reading in earnest. While it's not my favourite continuity (that would be rebirth) I'm still super attached to the new 52 Red Hood and the Outlaws earlier books. So I guess short version of that answer is, I'm fully aware of its issues, but overall positive about it.

My rarest DC ships are RoyDick and Thomas Wayne/Martha Wayne/Alfred Pennyworth... yeah, I know. I just love the concept so much
I love the idea of Martha / Alfred / Thomas. I often think about how the death of Martha and Thomas must have affected Alfred, and what it meant for him to take care of Bruce afterwards. I also like the idea that Bruce was the son of the three from the beginning.

At first, never really thought about batlantern until that moment when batman took his ring and smiled at him. There was a smol fleeting ship I had but it was gone just as fast. Until you dropped this video and Now I'm totally on board. 🤣

also, sorry about this long comment! you asked for an essay and...well...
1. batlantern isn't exactly my favorite, i've written a few fics with them together, but it's got potential for something actually interesting.
i think i prefer a more negative view on batlantern and the dynamics that them being very uneasy around each other can bring. in all of my various hal ships, i think it strikes an interesting middle ground between enemies (halsinestro), very close friends (halollie), and rough and tumble buddies (guyhal). bruce and hal fight often but there is a begrudging respect there, although i don't think hal thinks that bruce actually respects him in the least.
also, bruce taking hal's ring off will always be ridiculous and absolutely not how the ring works, playing into something that i don't like about batlantern: bruce wayne himself and the fact that he's become ridiculously overpowered within the past couple of years. i think i lose ten years off of my life every time i see that clip, so i should be dying......tomorrow at this point.
i can never see these two being romantic in any way. it's a hateship at its most unhealthy, and just a quick fling at its healthiest.
2. my rarest dc ship is definitely guy gardner/hal jordan. i have a couple of reasons for it, mainly some select moments and panels. i like my ships with a bit of fight to them, and i love the idea of lantern/lantern content considering how much time they spend together. i think these two have a lot of potential. for example, it was stated right when hal came back from being parallax that guy forgave him faster than anyone else did, and they really struck up a really great friendship after hal came back. before that point, they didn't like each other at all, to the point where guy's dislike of hal could be easily read as an obsession. but guy built hal a monument in his bar after he re-ignited the sun and spoke very highly of him.
so i read a ton of green lantern comics, i marathoned them. and that was when guyhal just...snuck up on me. it caught me by surprise, the first time i wrote it, i thought it'd be just a fun thing. and now...well, im in this rarepair hell of my own making! but it's my ship, dammit, and im gonna rub it all over the hal tag on ao3.
3. like anything, the new 52 is mixed for me. i actually really hated n52 JL, it totally erased a lot of the work that geoff johns did on hal's character...particularly odd because he was the one who wrote it. it really dumbed hal down to an extra in the credits, labeled "guy not as good as batman #3". plus it just totally ignores his relationship with ollie, which is another fantastic ship. (and i'd like to point out now that barry allen was dead for 23 years, in which hal and ollie's friendship kept on growing.)
but the green lantern comic at the time was excellent. it had a lot of great halsin moments too, but there's a lot of great moments in there in general. it was a good time to be a lantern fan (as long as you ignore JL), with guy gardner becoming a red lantern (which i love), and some other really killer moments.

Their relationship really depends on the continuity baggage. After the Paralax thing with Hal, I noticed Bruce never really was that trusting of Hal. Well not as much as he might’ve been. Like when the trinity are choosing members for League, Clark says Hal is still the best Lantern, and Bruce says that’s debatable. It comes off more like he’s still iffy about trusting Hal, with Clark arguing he deserves a second chance. Besides that, it’s clear they respect each other but very much disagree on a lot. Not Hawkman vs Green Arrow levels, but still prominently.

3. There’s still a lot of the New 52 I haven’t read, and I haven’t read any of it for a long time.
Those stories I read were "Bylines and Bracelets," "A Witch and an Amazon Walk into a Bar," and "What Happens in Vegas."
I think I also read a Barbara/Harley story called “Psalm of the Lark.”
I watch your vids to learn more about shipping as it's not something I really do, or more like I do it, but casually and in my head. Most of the time I don't even realize it's actually shipping. There's this one series where Batman & Supes end up in a parallel world (sort of) and there's "NightLantern." A superhero with looks/personality mixed from both Dick Grayson & Hal Jordan. Batman in one shot realizes how alike someone he loves (Dick) & someone he's annoyed with (Hal) are so similar. It perturbs him. Take from that what you like :)
There was a moment I wasn't into Bruce and Hal until I saw the JL animated films from 2014 and 2015. That's what made me ship them originally. However, my favorite pairings for Bruce and Hal are SuperBat and HalSin (Hal x Sinestro) respectively.

FabulaRasa was oddly enough the author of the first bunch of Superbat fics I ever read, I tried giving their Batlantern ones a shot but I just couldn't get into them, I found the parts where they confess or contemplate having deeper feelings for each other jarring and out of character.
I think it helped that Clark and Bruce already have such long and established relationship in canon so alot of legwork was already done for me, seeing the love they share for each other take on a more romantic/sexual lense required less suspension of disbelief on my part.
Hal and Bruce have always read to me as two people who might not ever truly be able like one another as individuals but at least can begrudging respect what each brings to the League.

My favorite dc ship is the ultimate rare pair Damian Wayne and Maps Mizoguchi. If y'all haven't read Gotham Academy you are missing out.
Comics canon is arbitrary, except for the bits we like. My fave DC rarepairs though are probably Lois/Diana and someone mentioned Selina/Diana and I felt my third eye open. It would be great, you'd have Selina doing robberies to get Lois' attention, flirting via articles and crime. I should write a fic.

Defiantly interesting. And to answer the question about the New 52, while I understand the complaints (and can agree with some), I did like a few things. Hal’s Green Lantern stuff. White Lantern Kyle (minus the romance with Carol). Some of the characters (i.e. Midnighter, Owlman, and Tiger (or Tig/Tony as Dick nicknamed)). The Court of Owls. Dick’s connection with the Court of Owls (and his story in general). The bonds Jason had with Tim and Roy. It wasn’t all bad for me.

1. I never really ship them before but I honestly getting fic ideas(just little pwp, that might grow up into plot fic who knows) now. I need to write it down so that when I am feeling better I can write it later.
2. (I think two was about new 52?) I never got into it. I have watched some of the movies. I have a hard time reading the comics because I have dyslexia so the movies are easier. But when ever I do get my hands on one (normally out of order and from the Library) I do my best and pour over studying as if I have test on it.
3.(Pairings?) I have so many pairings (Mostly Batfamily, but the Supers cab play too.) but the one I hard if never see is Oliver/Bruce. There just something about them that clicks in my shipper brain.

I tend to be the one who ships her favorite character even with the toast, so I have several Batman shipps. The rarest ones are BatHunter, AquaBat, BatConstantine, BatBlood, BatBane, BatRa's, BatJim, BatOwl, BatArrow. And I don't know if the BatLantern and BatFlash would be considered rare (for me they are not). I also like the one-sided BatRobin, I mean, that one of the Robin feels something, but Bruce only has parental feelings. But my supreme shipp is the SuperBat.

I'm more of a HalBarry shipper, which the new 52 made me ship ironically. I didn't read most of the New 52, and stuck to Justice League and Batgirl with some Wonder Woman and Batman/Superman, but there was some stuff in there that I was just not okay with in terms of backstory, characterization and relationships (I swear this isn't about Wonder Woman/Superman....I lied, it is. Sorry, if you ship it, it just didn't feel right to me.). Glad that they course corrected most of the stuff with rebirth though.

3) The New 52 is good imo, but I’m biased because the first time I went to a comic store that was all I saw. Fell in love with Red Robin and the Teen Titans all over again ❤️ and ever since I’ve gotten more and more into DC comics
