I’m disabled just watching out of curiosity and was NOT ready for the section where you not only mentioned wheelchair users but also included us in the challenge. It was really encouraging and just a lovely addition to the video. Not to be dramatic but this stuff makes a world of difference for me 💜

@@tebhernandez what does your workday look like? Have kids? Sick parents to care for? For some ppl carving out time to *intentionally* care for themselves is their greatest challenge. If you don't know what other ppl deal with you don't get to make blanket statements.
Instead of looking at walking like a workout or chore, I like to see it as a way to relax and de-stress. It improves my mental health and helps me cope/ manage stress A LOT better. Being outside is also a boost to my mood. When it’s cold (I’m in Canada lol), I break the 30 minutes into 2-3 shorter walks throughout the day
So much yes!! I’ve genuinely been changing it from “my walk workout” to “my walk” because it’s just like any other task you’d do in the day to get by! Definitely changing it to “I get to” instead of “have to” is a powerful mindset also!
Love this. I too have been doing about 40 min walks on my lunch break i get 1 hr so i have time to eat and get outside. I started this back at the end of jan. I was at 198lbs and now its may and im down to 170 just by walking and changing a bit of my diet. I started this for my mental health and also because my coworkers seem to only gossip during lunch. Peace of mind and body. I wish everyone success on the health journeys
I have 7 children and run a very busy household. I drop the kids off to there various schools and leave my car at my sons Preschool. I walk for 30 minutes then drive home again. I haven’t the time for the gym or classes and I have found just a 30 minute fast walk every morning has really helped my weight and is great for my mental health. Walking is free !!!! And I love it. ❤
I have been walking 3 miles every morning the last few months and I have lost so many inches off my body. It's easy and sustainable for me. I'd love to squeeze in 2 hours a day of walking eventually. It clears the mind, the skin, the body. It's wonderful.

Yes! I love that she did that too. I have a cousin who has a disability and uses a wheelchair, and one of her complaints over the years has been that people never share exercises for people who aren’t able-bodied
Right? I hate working out with a passion. I’m 54 and menopausal and my joints just can’t take Hiit anymore. I do weights at the gym which is fine, but cardio is all about the walk. My mental health is so much better now
The inclusivity you brought to this video opened my mind. Most people would click on this video just to see the benefits of walking everyday, but you brought awareness to people who don’t have that option. Hats off to you ☺️
Thanks for being inclusive of bodies with different abilities. I always take a 20 min walk during my lunch break and it's so mentally and physically refreshing. I am now feeling inspired to walk after work too. I could use an energy burst!
I just came across your channel. It's so nice to see a TH-camr that actually has a job and a job that's 12 hour shifts. I feel like most fitness people on here only just do TH-cam and act like we have all this time in the day to workout. Thanks! I’m currently doing this challenge. It’s been 10 days and I wake up looking forward to it. Who would have thought.. it’s just walking, but it’s been so positive to my life. I’ve also found there are time where I’m walking and I just have random urges to run. I feel like my body really really needed this!!
Walking for 30 minutes in the sunshine every day is my reward for working out first. I don't think of it as my exercise. I love the sun, trees, birds, friendly neighbors waving. It's glorious. I miss it when the weather's too bad to go. In the summer, I sometimes get one in the morning and another later. I'm 53, and I'm so grateful I GET to exercise. I loved your seated workout and reminder that there are so many people who wish they could just take a simple walk in the sun every day. I am truly blessed and grateful.
My brother was paralyzed from a sky diving accident and he passed away last year. I’m not sure why your video came up on my feed but I’m really glad it did. The fact that you thought to include people who can’t walk was incredible and definitely made me think of him. I go for walks to not only exercise because I am so fortunate to be able to do it but also to feel closer to my brother ❤
I’m a year late but I’m doing a 10k steps a day challenge and what you’ve said about the improvement to your mood is spot on. My anxiety is better, I’m so much more engergised, honestly, I literally will now do anything to get steps in. It takes a whole lot longer than 30 minutes, but I saw somewhere that if you do 10K steps per day, it’s as good for toning and weight loss as 1 hour in the gym which i hate so I’m fully embracing this walking lark.

I've been incorporating 30 minute walks at work during my lunch time. Mentally, it does WONDERS for me and it's so easy to incorporate in my day. It just feels so good and anytime I don't get to walk, I'm not as happy lol
I was someone who ate lunch at my desk when I worked in an office. When I started working from home a few years before the pandemic, I started making a point of actually taking a break, either a walk or even just eating my lunch on the patio. HUGE mental health benefit!

Thank you for pointing out that just "going for a walk" is not something that is easy for everyone. My 18yo has autism and intellectual delays. He needs exercise, but we can't just send him out for a walk on his own. My husband has joined our rec center with him and they work out together. It has been so good for both of them. Anyway...you have motivates me to get myself out there. ❤️
thank you for including those of us who're disabled. some may laugh, but i walk in my apartment every day for 1/2 to 1 hour. i'm not stable enough to go out too much, so this has really worked well for me. while i'm walking, i can do some good thinking, listen to audible, watch youtube, whatever. i'm so thankful that i can still get some exercise. i'll be looking out for more of your videos, as well as checking out the woman that you mentioned. thanks for such a great video!
I don’t laugh. I have a thick yoga mat that I walk/March in place while I watch TH-cam music videos. 30-40 minutes. I live in Florida so I need to be in the air conditioner and I hate gyms. Lol.
I remember very well my grandmother walking in her house. She had this little path she would follow, and she would walk and pray...when I was little I would walk behind her. :)
I cannot say how grateful I am that you mentioned people who may not be capable of walking for 30 mins a day and that you offered suggestions (and tried it!) for ways to still get exercise in. I have struggled with POTS, getting winded and light headed while exercising, not being able to stand for long periods of time, and that has contributed to a major decline in my health, which then turns into a decline in working out further declining my health. It’s a vicious cycle that I’m trying to get out of, but working out has been so daunting for the last few years. You just put a new spin on how I can actually accomplish getting healthier and more active. Thank you for considering people of all capabilities and how to apply this to each individual’s life and situation.

OMG! How amazing is this girl! I came for some walking motivation but subscribed within minutes! Heart of gold and I wish so many more people had her soul. Chronic illness suffer here and weight gain is very common when you can’t do what you use to anymore. I’m not in a wheelchair but this was so inspiring for me. Thank you for sharing and for your understanding to other struggles we can all have.
I'm a big fan of walking. I use the treadmill at the YMCA and set it to 2.1 mph. Slow, but I'm elderly - ha. Have dropped weight, but how I feel after I'm done is the bonus. Good luck to anyone starting a health plan.
Just want to add to all these comments, thank you for mentioning differently abled people. With arthritis, I often have to use a cane and knee straps, but the more you walk, the more strength you build up. It's taken me a year to build up to being able to walk 5 miles regularly and 10 miles, or even more, once a week. A year ago I was taking 6 to 8 ibuprofen a day, now it's zero. Not worrying about your speed is key!
I to have arthritis,having had a few operations to help this I still have it but I walk every day or six days a week this has helped maybe because of my weight loss.
I started walking a minimum of 3 miles per day since 06/15. Walking is so amazing and helps me de-stress. I’ve also lost 24lbs solely on walking + healthy eating.
@@Rain_bow_song - i do a minimum of 45min to 1 hour of walking a day sometime a bit longer depending how I’m feeling. And I actually just started adding in some interval training like (jog, walk, jog etc) plus some weights here and there (nothing crazy like 5-10lbs dumbells) ir even do a hike on the treadmill…it’s good to mix it up especially on the days When you just “don’t feel like it” ...the key is just to stay consistent! Thanks for the tip on Ella: I care for a 34 year old son who was handicapped from an aneurysm. He has no volitional mobility. We do range 4x a day and have him stand daily and put his feet on a power plate but we are always looking for ways to move his body. He was formerly an athlete than never stopped moving! Love the results of your challenge. Our challenge is taking care of our bodies so we can continue to care for him. It's not easy to even find 30 min. a day to walk during our 18 hours of care.
I've been disabled since I was a little kid and I can be hard on myself sometimes about not being able to do physical exercise, and I really appreciate the section on alternative workouts ❤ It's really nice to see positive disability representation in a workout space.

Durring quarintine I adopted a dog and started walking regularly. We walk around 2 miles a day in total, but at one point it was double that! I just pop on a podcast, audio book or music and enjoy some quality time with my doggo :) The main thing I noticed was my mental health and general endurance improved so much!

THANK YOU! My brother died from cancer right as we were all going into lockdown in 2020. Between grief and the pandemic, exercising was more than I could deal with mentally. I had zero ambition/motivation and to give you some perspective, I worked out 5 days a week prior to this with cardio, Pilates and strength training. So it is so different for me not to exercise. I’m slowly getting back in to it. To compound it all, I have autoimmune arthritis in my feet, right hip and hand. The hip pain makes it difficult to walk for more than a mile or so but I’ve been trying to stick with it. Hearing how you have lost so much around your waist and thighs is such a huge motivator!! Thank you, you really have helped give me a push to try it for a month EVERY day, not just a few days a week, to really get myself back on track. 💙💙💙
I just randomly clicked this video while cleaning & I am officially a new subscriber. You have such a genuine energy about you & you can tell that your work is important to you. Someone close to me is in rehabilitation from an accident and almost every physical therapist I’ve met working with them shares this super intuitive, empathetic energy. It’s such great work and it’s great to see a field that experiences a lot of heartache be filled with positive and caring people such as yourself !
As a disabled person with mobility issues, THANK YOU. Your words made me want to cry. I try so hard to be active and maintain fitness and wellbeing, but I don't know how to reach these goals as the world is tailored for non-disabled people and I often feel forgotten about. Love you for this 💓
I started walking daily on my treadmill (or outside if it isn't sweltering lol) to lose weight, but I suffer from pcos so it's a little bit difficult. However, even though the scale is going down verrrrrrrrry slowly, just getting in that 20 mins of walking makes me feel so much better. It's the weirdest thing. It's almost like I can breathe better, I can move better and even sometimes sleep better. I am so so so so grateful for my body. I also just want to say I love that you added in the segment for others who may not be able to move much or walk. That was really thoughtful of you!
As someone who is in school for OT, watching you incorporate a workout centered around the disabled community was amazing. It warmed my heart and its SO important to always consider how we can get that community not only moving but involved in fun activities they enjoy.

Walking is great! Recently I learned to appreciate it way more than I ever did before. I used to be very lazy not working out at all. Then during the pandemic I got motivated and started working out 6 days a week. Unfortunately I was doing things incorrectly and caused herniated discs in my upper and lower spine... It started with mild pain which I totally ignored and just kept going. Then it turned into a world of pain. There was a point where I wasn't able to get up and walk normally. Let me tell you... no matter how lazy or unmotivated you feel to work out and move, when you're faced with being unable to do the most basic thing as walking it hits you hard. For me, it added crippling depression on top of the excruciating pain. As cheesy as it sounds, I realized how precious it is to be able to walk. Now I'm better and able to walk normally again. I still feel some level of pain but I guess that's how it's going to be from now on. I never thought I'd say this, but I also miss working out. But gotta take it easy.
I’m not disabled, but my mom has had mobility issues most of my life. I was already really enjoying this video and feeling inspired to walk (once my damned sprained ankle heals!) but when I got to the portion where you spoke on the privilege of being able bodied I could have cried - it’s not often enough you see someone speak on that. And then on top of that you included a workout that was inclusive of people who can’t do the daily walks! That was so amazing and I just want to thank you for doing it, and for reminding me to always be conscious of thinking of people who move through the world differently than I do.
I’ve been like a couch potato for the last few months. With work, making content and a family to take care of, I decided to do the 10k steps a day for 30 day challenge. It’s day 7 today and I feel so amazing, I also joined the gym on day 4 and been going there ever since. The energy, the mood, the confidence are all unmatched. Thank you for this video 😊
You totally motivated me, thank you!! I am currently pregnant, so my workouts are limited. I was doing a 2-3 mile walk almost everyday and just kinda got out of that habit. Now I’m motivated to do it again, and I’m sure my dog will appreciate it lol.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I just started doing a daily 30 minute walk this week and it’s amazing how much more energy I have. My mood and sleep quality have improved too. I started doing it for weight loss, but the other benefits are amazing. I have an auto immune disease and fatigue is a real thing, plus the constant brain fog because of all my medication’s/chemo. I’m definitely sticking with this! Also I just wanted to say THANK YOU for the work you do in physical therapy. I had brain cancer eight years ago and had to undergo a massive craniotomy, followed by chemo and radiation. I couldn’t walk for a while, and I will never forget the physical therapists who came in and took me on my first walk out of the hospital bed with the belt around my waist. They were so encouraging and made me want to try harder and I did it on the first try. You’re doing good work. God bless you!

I wasn't expecting that you mentioned workouts for people who are in a wheelchair, I have a sister that suffered a cerebral accident and I saw her the other day searching out for some workouts to do at home but they were all for people who is not disabled. Love this video!! I am a girl on wheels and I'm totally into fitness. I love Pilates and lifting weights. I can move my legs a little bit, so for cardio I like to cycling on the Ergometer and on step on the step machine. I also recently started the 12-3 - 30 challenge on my own terms. I can walk a little bit but only with assistance and for longer distances I need a wheelchair, because my legs are too weak. I have a spastic in diplegia which was discovered when I was 1,5 years old. Ahh, I’m in the midst of a Crohn’s disease flare up and I haven’t walked more than a few meters in about a month. Thank you so much for acknowledging those with illness in this video. I just want to say thank you so much for including a section for people who may not be physically able to walk daily. I work as an occupational therapist in a cancer hospital so I am so happy to see resources out there for people who need adaptations in their workout. I’m definitely going to try this challenge because I could use a boost this November!

How lovely of you to recognize people with altered-abilities! Later in my life I experienced significant spasticity on my legs due to adrenoleukodystrophy and walking 8k now feels like when I used to walk 15k. It’s all about what works for you. So nice of you to appreciate diversity in workouts 😊
I just started doing this and I’ve been combining a few of your past challenges and I’m also been eating more vegatarian meals . I find you so inspiring. So thank you for all your honest videos and health challenges . I have rewatched a few of your videos a few times . I also walk fir two blocks four days a a weeks for a few months now but I know that not enough abs I should walk outside of work too . And it’s true . Excercise and eating healthy and getting really good rest really helps . I know I feel the best and most stable I ever been . So thank you inspiring me and being inspiring to everyone else .
It’s day 14 of resetting my sleep schedule and walking an hour a day and I can agree that it makes you feel amazing!! Even if I’m tired today, I still walked and it made me feel so much better.

As someone who was non weight bearing for 4 months because of a tibial plateau fracture--seated dancing in my room to my favorite songs was a lifesaver. I’ve never been more embarrassed of myself lol but I was desperate for any movement at all. It was sooooo helpful for my mental health during recovery!!
I am having goosebumps. I have cerebral palsy and limited mobility. But I have been slowly walking, or trying to. And just in a week, the difference in functionality and gaining more energy and muscle strength in my weaker side. Love this so much ❤️ 💗 💖

I’m also a smoker and am hoping this will help me quit because I’ll only want to feel better and better. This video was definitely inspiring. I really never thought about doing exercises sitting down even if you are able bodied. I think I often times get in such a mental rut about having to leave my couch or house. But it just goes to show even just a 30 minute work out is totally doable.
I work 12 hour shifts, 3 x a week and on average in a day I walk 10,000 - 15,000 steps depending what floor I'm working on. On the days I don't work I walk on setting 5.5 for 30 minutes on the treadmill. I also walk to and from work which is an extra 5,000 steps. I feel amazing!

I’m overweight and walking (especially in winter) hurts my knees from time to time. I tried Ella’s workout and you were totally right, your heart rate rises! I just did a 39 minute workout of hers and burned over 100 calories and now I feel so much better!

I grew up in Switzerland and this is wild to me. I walk 60 minutes everyday just to get to work or uni and back + 1-2 hours in total with my dog (depends on the weather). I've never viewed walking as a privilege or a workout, so thank you for this perspective!

Thank you for this video .. your “nudge” is what I need.. I am in my 50’s and I’m too sedentary .. overweight and take a few meds due to the obesity. I have a diagnosis is Panic Disorder (since I was 27) and sometimes exercise , including walking, sends my anxiety into a frenzy ….. your videos are very uplifting …. I may have to put this challenge in my calendar for September …..
I think it’s great to move in whatever way feels best! Even if it’s 5 or 10 min it’s still valid. Even sitting workouts while watching tv is something! Be kind to yourself :)

I have a chronic illness that might at some point severely impact my mobility so including a workout for people with limited mobility was really meaningful, thank you.
Once my family got a dog, I walked everyday to every other day. It's weird thinking back, but Oliver (our dog) really helped me. I love walking him and just watching him run around the field. He is such a little goof ball.... but he will guilt trip you into walking.
This has convinced me to get back into walking. Before the lockdown, I'd always park further away from work so I could walk. But then I got moved to remote and I've always missed going on those walks. We do small walks after work with our dog, but I think I'll try to walk more before work again

I’ve been in a shlump of bad moods and somewhat of a depression even after completing my first 6 week challenge on the Alive app. I know what you mean about the energy boost & just feeling great overall. It’s been about a month since I stopped that. Watching this video helped me realize that I don’t have to go all out just to get an energy/mood boost. That something as simple as a 30 min walk will do the trick. I think this is exactly what I needed to watch today. Because I am motivated to just walk. Thank you for this. You know you are a good physical therapist when you are challenging yourself and to workouts that people of other abilities can do. I like that you mentioned mental health challenge too and being poorly motivated but still able to try Doug something in bed or a chair or just at home. I have ptsd and sometimes social anxiety will keep me from wanting to be around people to exercise and also have stage four knee arthritis (need a TKR but not mentally ready for it yet). I have frequent issues with low energy and inertia and brain fog (partly from sleep apnea I think) and getting off my booty to do anything more than basic ADL’s is just hard. I also have c-spine arthritis and epidural scarring on my lumbar spine. Some days I just don’t want to deal but I do try to work my pain management and go to a park and walk my dog. That is about all I can muster and some days lately if my pain ks high I just walk her to the dog park and sit down on the ground to toss her ball and make myself do a lap or two around the dog park and that’s it. I feel like I have a huge deficit in energy very often and am being treated for hypothyroidism. My numbers there are usually ok so that’s not a factor. The pain management is and just fatigue from the pain makes me mentally unwilling to push myself harder. I would love to hear more about how you motivated yourself to go even on bad days. You are fortunately healthy so maybe don’t understand fully but as a PT I know you have more insight than many. Thanks for your positive video.
I’m disabled just watching out of curiosity and was NOT ready for the section where you not only mentioned wheelchair users but also included us in the challenge. It was really encouraging and just a lovely addition to the video. Not to be dramatic but this stuff makes a world of difference for me 💜

Instead of looking at walking like a workout or chore, I like to see it as a way to relax and de-stress. It improves my mental health and helps me cope/ manage stress A LOT better. Being outside is also a boost to my mood. When it’s cold (I’m in Canada lol), I break the 30 minutes into 2-3 shorter walks throughout the day
Yes-totally improves my mental health. Now, at the end of the day I say " I GET to walk now" instead of "I HAVE to walk now to lose weight".
So much yes!! I’ve genuinely been changing it from “my walk workout” to “my walk” because it’s just like any other task you’d do in the day to get by! Definitely changing it to “I get to” instead of “have to” is a powerful mindset also!

Love this. I too have been doing about 40 min walks on my lunch break i get 1 hr so i have time to eat and get outside. I started this back at the end of jan. I was at 198lbs and now its may and im down to 170 just by walking and changing a bit of my diet. I started this for my mental health and also because my coworkers seem to only gossip during lunch. Peace of mind and body. I wish everyone success on the health journeys

I have 7 children and run a very busy household. I drop the kids off to there various schools and leave my car at my sons Preschool. I walk for 30 minutes then drive home again. I haven’t the time for the gym or classes and I have found just a 30 minute fast walk every morning has really helped my weight and is great for my mental health. Walking is free !!!! And I love it. ❤
I have been walking 3 miles every morning the last few months and I have lost so many inches off my body. It's easy and sustainable for me. I'd love to squeeze in 2 hours a day of walking eventually. It clears the mind, the skin, the body. It's wonderful.

Yes! I love that she did that too. I have a cousin who has a disability and uses a wheelchair, and one of her complaints over the years has been that people never share exercises for people who aren’t able-bodied

Right? I hate working out with a passion. I’m 54 and menopausal and my joints just can’t take Hiit anymore. I do weights at the gym which is fine, but cardio is all about the walk. My mental health is so much better now

I’m currently doing this challenge. It’s been 10 days and I wake up looking forward to it. Who would have thought.. it’s just walking, but it’s been so positive to my life. I’ve also found there are time where I’m walking and I just have random urges to run. I feel like my body really really needed this!!

Walking for 30 minutes in the sunshine every day is my reward for working out first. I don't think of it as my exercise. I love the sun, trees, birds, friendly neighbors waving. It's glorious. I miss it when the weather's too bad to go. In the summer, I sometimes get one in the morning and another later. I'm 53, and I'm so grateful I GET to exercise. I loved your seated workout and reminder that there are so many people who wish they could just take a simple walk in the sun every day. I am truly blessed and grateful.
My brother was paralyzed from a sky diving accident and he passed away last year. I’m not sure why your video came up on my feed but I’m really glad it did. The fact that you thought to include people who can’t walk was incredible and definitely made me think of him. I go for walks to not only exercise because I am so fortunate to be able to do it but also to feel closer to my brother ❤
I’m a year late but I’m doing a 10k steps a day challenge and what you’ve said about the improvement to your mood is spot on. My anxiety is better, I’m so much more engergised, honestly, I literally will now do anything to get steps in. It takes a whole lot longer than 30 minutes, but I saw somewhere that if you do 10K steps per day, it’s as good for toning and weight loss as 1 hour in the gym which i hate so I’m fully embracing this walking lark.
Bless you, for thinking about others. I have MS so trying to take a walk on a weekly basis and 5 mins of cardio (all I can do) is a struggle but this is motivating.

I've been incorporating 30 minute walks at work during my lunch time. Mentally, it does WONDERS for me and it's so easy to incorporate in my day. It just feels so good and anytime I don't get to walk, I'm not as happy lol

I was someone who ate lunch at my desk when I worked in an office. When I started working from home a few years before the pandemic, I started making a point of actually taking a break, either a walk or even just eating my lunch on the patio. HUGE mental health benefit!

Thank you for pointing out that just "going for a walk" is not something that is easy for everyone. My 18yo has autism and intellectual delays. He needs exercise, but we can't just send him out for a walk on his own. My husband has joined our rec center with him and they work out together. It has been so good for both of them. Anyway...you have motivates me to get myself out there. ❤️
thank you for including those of us who're disabled. some may laugh, but i walk in my apartment every day for 1/2 to 1 hour. i'm not stable enough to go out too much, so this has really worked well for me. while i'm walking, i can do some good thinking, listen to audible, watch youtube, whatever. i'm so thankful that i can still get some exercise. i'll be looking out for more of your videos, as well as checking out the woman that you mentioned. thanks for such a great video!
I don’t laugh. I have a thick yoga mat that I walk/March in place while I watch TH-cam music videos. 30-40 minutes. I live in Florida so I need to be in the air conditioner and I hate gyms. Lol.

I cannot say how grateful I am that you mentioned people who may not be capable of walking for 30 mins a day and that you offered suggestions (and tried it!) for ways to still get exercise in. I have struggled with POTS, getting winded and light headed while exercising, not being able to stand for long periods of time, and that has contributed to a major decline in my health, which then turns into a decline in working out further declining my health. It’s a vicious cycle that I’m trying to get out of, but working out has been so daunting for the last few years. You just put a new spin on how I can actually accomplish getting healthier and more active. Thank you for considering people of all capabilities and how to apply this to each individual’s life and situation.

OMG! How amazing is this girl! I came for some walking motivation but subscribed within minutes! Heart of gold and I wish so many more people had her soul. Chronic illness suffer here and weight gain is very common when you can’t do what you use to anymore.

I'm a big fan of walking. I use the treadmill at the YMCA and set it to 2.1 mph. Slow, but I'm elderly - ha. Have dropped weight, but how I feel after I'm done is the bonus. Good luck to anyone starting a health plan.

Just want to add to all these comments, thank you for mentioning differently abled people. With arthritis, I often have to use a cane and knee straps, but the more you walk, the more strength you build up. It's taken me a year to build up to being able to walk 5 miles regularly and 10 miles, or even more, once a week. A year ago I was taking 6 to 8 ibuprofen a day, now it's zero. Not worrying about your speed is key!
I to have arthritis,having had a few operations to help this I still have it but I walk every day or six days a week this has helped maybe because of my weight loss.
I started walking a minimum of 3 miles per day since 06/15. Walking is so amazing and helps me de-stress. I’ve also lost 24lbs solely on walking + healthy eating.
It took how many months to lose 24lbs??

@@Rain_bow_song - i do a minimum of 45min to 1 hour of walking a day sometime a bit longer depending how I’m feeling. And I actually just started adding in some interval training like (jog, walk, jog etc) plus some weights here and there (nothing crazy like 5-10lbs dumbells) ir even do a hike on the treadmill…it’s good to mix it up especially on the days When you just “don’t feel like it” ...the key is just to stay consistent! Thanks for the tip on Ella: I care for a 34 year old son who was handicapped from an aneurysm. He has no volitional mobility. We do range 4x a day and have him stand daily and put his feet on a power plate but we are always looking for ways to move his body. He was formerly an athlete than never stopped moving! Love the results of your challenge. Our challenge is taking care of our bodies so we can continue to care for him. It's not easy to even find 30 min. a day to walk during our 18 hours of care.
I've been disabled since I was a little kid and I can be hard on myself sometimes about not being able to do physical exercise, and I really appreciate the section on alternative workouts ❤ It's really nice to see positive disability representation in a workout space.

Durring quarintine I adopted a dog and started walking regularly. We walk around 2 miles a day in total, but at one point it was double that! I just pop on a podcast, audio book or music and enjoy some quality time with my doggo :) The main thing I noticed was my mental health and general endurance improved so much!

THANK YOU! My brother died from cancer right as we were all going into lockdown in 2020. Between grief and the pandemic, exercising was more than I could deal with mentally. I had zero ambition/motivation and to give you some perspective, I worked out 5 days a week prior to this with cardio, Pilates and strength training. So it is so different for me not to exercise. I’m slowly getting back in to it. To compound it all, I have autoimmune arthritis in my feet, right hip and hand. The hip pain makes it difficult to walk for more than a mile or so but I’ve been trying to stick with it. Hearing how you have lost so much around your waist and thighs is such a huge motivator!! Thank you, you really have helped give me a push to try it for a month EVERY day, not just a few days a week, to really get myself back on track. 💙💙💙

Someone close to me is in rehabilitation from an accident and almost every physical therapist I’ve met working with them shares this super intuitive, empathetic energy. It’s such great work and it’s great to see a field that experiences a lot of heartache be filled with positive and caring people such as yourself !
As a disabled person with mobility issues, THANK YOU. Your words made me want to cry. I try so hard to be active and maintain fitness and wellbeing, but I don't know how to reach these goals as the world is tailored for non-disabled people and I often feel forgotten about. Love you for this 💓
I started walking daily on my treadmill (or outside if it isn't sweltering lol) to lose weight, but I suffer from pcos so it's a little bit difficult. However, even though the scale is going down verrrrrrrrry slowly, just getting in that 20 mins of walking makes me feel so much better. It's the weirdest thing. It's almost like I can breathe better, I can move better and even sometimes sleep better. I am so so so so grateful for my body. I also just want to say I love that you added in the segment for others who may not be able to move much or walk. That was really thoughtful of you!
As someone who is in school for OT, watching you incorporate a workout centered around the disabled community was amazing. It warmed my heart and its SO important to always consider how we can get that community not only moving but involved in fun activities they enjoy.

Walking is great! Recently I learned to appreciate it way more than I ever did before. I used to be very lazy not working out at all. Then during the pandemic I got motivated and started working out 6 days a week. Unfortunately I was doing things incorrectly and caused herniated discs in my upper and lower spine... It started with mild pain which I totally ignored and just kept going. Then it turned into a world of pain. There was a point where I wasn't able to get up and walk normally. Let me tell you... no matter how lazy or unmotivated you feel to work out and move, when you're faced with being unable to do the most basic thing as walking it hits you hard. For me, it added crippling depression on top of the excruciating pain. As cheesy as it sounds, I realized how precious it is to be able to walk. Now I'm better and able to walk normally again. I still feel some level of pain but I guess that's how it's going to be from now on. I never thought I'd say this, but I also miss working out. But gotta take it easy.

I’m not disabled, but my mom has had mobility issues most of my life. I was already really enjoying this video and feeling inspired to walk (once my damned sprained ankle heals!) but when I got to the portion where you spoke on the privilege of being able bodied I could have cried - it’s not often enough you see someone speak on that. And then on top of that you included a workout that was inclusive of people who can’t do the daily walks! That was so amazing and I just want to thank you for doing it, and for reminding me to always be conscious of thinking of people who move through the world differently than I do.
I’ve been like a couch potato for the last few months. With work, making content and a family to take care of, I decided to do the 10k steps a day for 30 day challenge. It’s day 7 today and I feel so amazing, I also joined the gym on day 4 and been going there ever since. The energy, the mood, the confidence are all unmatched. Thank you for this video 😊
You totally motivated me, thank you!! I am currently pregnant, so my workouts are limited. I was doing a 2-3 mile walk almost everyday and just kinda got out of that habit. Now I’m motivated to do it again, and I’m sure my dog will appreciate it lol.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I just started doing a daily 30 minute walk this week and it’s amazing how much more energy I have. My mood and sleep quality have improved too. I started doing it for weight loss, but the other benefits are amazing. I have an auto immune disease and fatigue is a real thing, plus the constant brain fog because of all my medication’s/chemo. I’m definitely sticking with this! Also I just wanted to say THANK YOU for the work you do in physical therapy. I had brain cancer eight years ago and had to undergo a massive craniotomy, followed by chemo and radiation. I couldn’t walk for a while, and I will never forget the physical therapists who came in and took me on my first walk out of the hospital bed with the belt around my waist. They were so encouraging and made me want to try harder and I did it on the first try. You’re doing good work. God bless you!

Love this video!! I am a girl on wheels and I'm totally into fitness. I love Pilates and lifting weights. I can move my legs a little bit, so for cardio I like to cycling on the Ergometer and on step on the step machine. I also recently started the 12-3 - 30 challenge on my own terms. I can walk a little bit but only with assistance and for longer distances I need a wheelchair, because my legs are too weak. I have a spastic in diplegia which was discovered when I was 1,5 years old. I just want to say thank you so much for including a section for people who may not be physically able to walk daily. I work as an occupational therapist in a cancer hospital so I am so happy to see resources out there for people who need adaptations in their workout. It is incredibly refreshing for someone doing a fitness/health challenge to actually include disabled people in the conversation and add in an alternative exercise.
How lovely of you to recognize people with altered-abilities! Later in my life I experienced significant spasticity on my legs due to adrenoleukodystrophy and walking 8k now feels like when I used to walk 15k. It’s all about what works for you. So nice of you to appreciate diversity in workouts 😊
I just started doing this and I’ve been combining a few of your past challenges and I’m also been eating more vegatarian meals . I find you so inspiring. So thank you for all your honest videos and health challenges . I have rewatched a few of your videos a few times . I also walk fir two blocks four days a a weeks for a few months now but I know that not enough abs I should walk outside of work too . And it’s true . Excercise and eating healthy and getting really good rest really helps . I know I feel the best and most stable I ever been . So thank you inspiring me and being inspiring to everyone else .
It’s day 14 of resetting my sleep schedule and walking an hour a day and I can agree that it makes you feel amazing!! Even if I’m tired today, I still walked and it made me feel so much better.

As someone who was non weight bearing for 4 months because of a tibial plateau fracture--seated dancing in my room to my favorite songs was a lifesaver. I’ve never been more embarrassed of myself lol but I was desperate for any movement at all. It was sooooo helpful for my mental health during recovery!!
I am having goosebumps. I have cerebral palsy and limited mobility. But I have been slowly walking, or trying to. And just in a week, the difference in functionality and gaining more energy and muscle strength in my weaker side. Love this so much ❤️ 💗 💖

This video was definitely inspiring. I really never thought about doing exercises sitting down even if you are able bodied. I think I often times get in such a mental rut about having to leave my couch or house. But it just goes to show even just a 30 minute work out is totally doable.

I work 12 hour shifts, 3 x a week and on average in a day I walk 10,000 - 15,000 steps depending what floor I'm working on.
On the days I don't work I walk on setting 5.5 for 30 minutes on the treadmill.
I also walk to and from work which is an extra 5,000 steps.
I feel amazing!

I tried Ella’s workout and you were totally right, your heart rate rises! I just did a 39 minute workout of hers and burned over 100 calories and now I feel so much better!

I grew up in Switzerland and this is wild to me. I walk 60 minutes everyday just to get to work or uni and back + 1-2 hours in total with my dog (depends on the weather). I've never viewed walking as a privilege or a workout, so thank you for this perspective!
i'm from liechtenstein and i'm amazed, too... 30 minutes are only like 3000 steps or something. i easily do 15000 during a regular day

Thank you for this video .. your “nudge” is what I need.. I am in my 50’s and I’m too sedentary .. overweight and take a few meds due to the obesity. I have a diagnosis is Panic Disorder (since I was 27) and sometimes exercise , including walking, sends my anxiety into a frenzy ….. your videos are very uplifting …. I may have to put this challenge in my calendar for September …..
I think it’s great to move in whatever way feels best! Even if it’s 5 or 10 min it’s still valid. Even sitting workouts while watching tv is something! Be kind to yourself :)

I’m starting my daily walking soon and ordered a treadmill and this video really has pushed me to really lock in with this! I’m so excited to start, and it’s like you mentioned how 30 minutes a day is such a small amount of time. It can absolutely get done! Thank you for the motivation
I have a chronic illness that might at some point severely impact my mobility so including a workout for people with limited mobility was really meaningful, thank you.

Once my family got a dog, I walked everyday to every other day. It's weird thinking back, but Oliver (our dog) really helped me. I love walking him and just watching him run around the field. He is such a little goof ball.... but he will guilt trip you into walking.
This has convinced me to get back into walking. Before the lockdown, I'd always park further away from work so I could walk. But then I got moved to remote and I've always missed going on those walks. We do small walks after work with our dog, but I think I'll try to walk more before work again
Thank you for adding that disabled person channel and disabled workouts, I often feel Lake disabled workouts often get over overlooked even though manual trigger users almost wrong with people that I know, speaking as a disabled person myself 😇

I’ve been in a shlump of bad moods and somewhat of a depression even after completing my first 6 week challenge on the Alive app. I know what you mean about the energy boost & just feeling great overall. It’s been about a month since I stopped that. Watching this video helped me realize that I don’t have to go all out just to get an energy/mood boost. That something as simple as a 30 min walk will do the trick. I think this is exactly what I needed to watch today. Because I am motivated to just walk. Thank you for this. I’ll check back in again in 30 days ❤️

I'm glad you discussed how some can't use their legs, and how we can have a way to workout. I'm blessed with working legs but I like your video
You know you are a good physical therapist when you are challenging yourself and to workouts that people of other abilities can do. I like that you mentioned mental health challenge too and being poorly motivated but still able to try Doug something in bed or a chair or just at home. I have ptsd and sometimes social anxiety will keep me from wanting to be around people to exercise and also have stage four knee arthritis (need a TKR but not mentally ready for it yet).
I have frequent issues with low energy and inertia and brain fog (partly from sleep apnea I think) and getting off my booty to do anything more than basic ADL’s is just hard. I also have c-spine arthritis and epidural scarring on my lumbar spine. Some days I just don’t want to deal but I do try to work my pain management and go to a park and walk my dog. That is about all I can muster and some days lately if my pain ks high I just walk her to the dog park and sit down on the ground to toss her ball and make myself do a lap or two around the dog park and that’s it. I feel like I have a huge deficit in energy very often and am being treated for hypothyroidism. My numbers there are usually ok so that’s not a factor. The pain management is and just fatigue from the pain makes me mentally unwilling to push myself harder. I would love to hear more about how you motivated yourself to go even on bad days. You are fortunately healthy so maybe don’t understand fully but as a PT I know you have more insight than many.
