You always manage to tell me about JRPGS I've never heard of, even if you say they are ones that suck you still manage to surprise me with these game lists. They're all usually fresh little known games and even the game lists of "not that bad" are full of interesting "not great games" that almost no one talks about. Erick Landon RPG They actually look great. I just finished reading Beverly’s chapter in Seven Shadows. Only thing that was a little odd was that there were a lot of noticeable finger prints on the front and back but they wiped off. Also in Seven shadows one of the pages was folded on itself a couple times which was a little weird but no big deal. Terra Gaiden is immaculate, just a couple fingerprints, not covered with them. Overall the printing is perfect for both and I’m happy with my purchase.

I absolutely loved Metal Saga. I never got lost though, if you talk with everyone I don't think you'll ever get truly lost, it may be "open world" but the world is not that big and it does a good job funneling the player through the game. I'm anticipating the new PS4 release, and I still need to play the fan translated Metal Max Returns for Snes. I enjoyed Samurai Legend Musashi and Nightmare of Druaga, and always thought King's Field to be the epitome of boring, as for the rest of the list, wow, that's some truly unknown games there, played Orphen and Jade Cocoon 2 but didn't like them. I'm curious, did you play MS Saga: A New Dawn? I recently got the game and I'm having a blast, most people overlooked it, I guess because of the "chibi" Gundam look, but damn this is HARD.
Metal Saga! Where one of the first bosses is a VW Beetle! What’s not to love? And you can start checking off legitimate endings within the first hour of playing! Woo-hoo!

Jade Cocoon 2 is my favorite in this list (Jade Cocoon in ps1 is one of my favorite game too). It's huge that we could bring 8 monsters into battle and some must be supports/debuff/buffer, not only damagers that we needed.
I remember watching some game channel on TV back in maybe 2008-2011 (don't remember the exact age) but there was a JRPG on that Channel that i'm still obsessed with. But I can't for the hell of it remember what it was about. I just remember it looked sort of like a Final Fantasy just slightly more anime. Relatively similar to Resonance of Fate graphics I believe. Started with a LOOONG cutscene and then started in some sort of destroyed futuristic city
i actually grew up with eternal ring in my collection, imagine growing up trying to figure out that mess of a game lmao. i recently played it again as an adult and was able to understand the ring crafting much better then as a kid. i thought it wasnt too bad but i might have nostalga for it

Jade Cocoon 2 is my jam, i love that game, put hundreds of hours into it, masterpiece imo, played it soo many times, the amulet makes for a brilliant strategy options Musashi on PS2 was dissapointing, couldn’t get into it and love Brave Fencer Musashi, such a shame... Have Metal Saga. Good game. The dog part is great since each dog has special abilities that come in handy vs certain bosses. Entertaining dungeon just to get to the dogs. ----- Amusing in that you can "win" the game in the first 5 minutes. --- By far the longest section in the manual covers how to paint and decorate your tanks! I think it's about 16 pages! ---- I have 4 of these games. Obviously, I have too many JRPGs.
Many things have to be taken into account: lack of commercial success and marketing, how many people have played them or know them, how many sales they receive at launch, how many people currently talk about them, etc...

Brave Musashi 2 is one I didn't even know existed till very recently, I am going to check it out but I don't hold much hope. I also need to try Metal Saga, the PS2 era is when I got strongly into MMORPGs so I missed a ton of JRPGs. This is probably going to be a unpopular opinion but I believe the PS2 era was the downfall of good RPGs. Their was a lot of good JRPGs but so many companies had to go through some awkward growing pains switching to 3D graphics that I believe hurt the companies as a whole. It was the Era that for a lot people solidified the mindset of "Oh this game doesn't look as good as my other game so it must be bad". As we both know a lot of our favorite franchises died in this Era and I think that strongly has to do with the growing pains plus the fact of the big price increase in making games. So to put in a lot more money, without much growth of people buying the game and in some cases failing led them to fade away. Its no surprise to me that some games like horror and dark psychological games excelled in this era as the graphics upgrade let them fully realize this genre. But at the same time to have unique sprawling fantasy world like the JRPGs before took a ton of money to make look good. Thus the rise of Square Enix with the funds to make games look amazing and the final swan songs of so many good franchises trying to compete.
Yep I just wish those companies would realize that it was just the time and atmosphere of gaming that led to all the failures or things not selling well. A lot of games that didn't do so well at the time are considered gems now and I think they would do very well in the modern world. Plus like Octopath is showing they wouldn't even have to go for the super expensive 3d game.

I won't lie Musashi Samurai legend for PS2 was horrible but it was so bad it was kinda good. It was a great change of pace from the final Fantasy boon at the time I actually never played the first game I found out much latter on that there even was one. It was more good from a don't take it seriously and just roll with the humor kind of bad. You really should a video on games that are so broken and bad that they are kinda good.

Orphen was the first game I bought for the PS2. When I saw anime cutscenes and heard the voice actiong I knew the PS2 was gong to be a great system. Game was mediocre though.

Moving on again. 4 - This game, I might play. If, again, I managed to get a physical copy of. 3 - Same issues as entries 9 and 6. I don't know why it took Japan until Demon's Souls to make a more successful western style game. 2 - UGHHHHHHH. Just as I thought. This time, it feels like someone tried to emulate an isometric game like Diablo, but fucked it up horribly. 1 - This game, I don't know if I can even call an RPG at all. Looks fun. I'm in no hurry to play it, though.

Yeah, I remember that if you choose not to be a hunter, you get the bad ending.
You can also "win" the game in the 2nd town by getting married and retiring.
