Here’s a story for you. When I was in college I went to a K-Mart that was going out of business. The electronics section was picked through but still had some decent stuff. There was a bin full of Crazy Town CDs and copies of Parasite Eve. I only bought Crazy Town because I thought Parasite Eve looked dumb. If only I knew.
It would have been a long time to hold.because game prices didn't go up until 2013, you can track it on pricecharting. It's was mostly because game companies gave up on backwards compatibility. And at the same time wanted to stop making physical games. So it's been a snowball effect, with the only slow down being xbox with gamepass. But now not anymore as Xbox will no longer support 360 or OG xbox those games are now going up
When I clicked on this list I had already decided I was going to judge you based on where you put Final Fantasy 9 and now I can say you are doing God's work
@@MUUTDITTSPOUMN of course it was 🤦. It's pretty much the best Final Fantasy game ever made. Incredible characters, amazing music, extremely well written and crafted world. I could go on and on about how great that game is.
Another story. My friend Justin bought Final Fantasy Tactics when we were in high school. We booted it up and got destroyed in the first fight. We tried everything, all day, and eventually got to where we could get all but 2 enemies down but couldn’t figure out how to win. The next day I get a call and he tells me to come over. He boots up the game, starts it, and shows me how to add other party members into a battle. We had been trying to win with only Ramzuh and Delita 🙄
I would also like to include an honorable mention for Legend of Legaia, which is sadly missing from almost every list. If you haven't done yet, do yourself a favor and play it, interesting combat system revolving around martial arts.

Fuck yeah, Vagrant Story! I would personally put at at #1 on this list for its masterful storytelling and deep, complex and rewarding gameplay. And yeah, we're WAAAYY overdue for some kind of remaster/remake!

@HollowRick yeah man I know, was so lucky to have someone with a computer and the ability to rip games and chip consoles, it was access to the world way before common times.
Alot of these went over my head as a child i remember trying to play star ocean untill the end of time and not really getting the deeper mechanics or getting stuck on the final boss in legend of dragoon cause i was sorely underpowered or worse getting lost in the desert in ff7 and just giving up or just never understanding anything ever in monster seed squares old creature capture game but now that im older ive gotten more attached to modern classicsin the genre like divinity series or personas
I like both but part 2 is more tedious. I still love both though. I like part 1 cause it seemed more mysterious, unknown, mysticism etc. I always thought Ashley transforming was the coolest thing though.
Wild Arms 2 Definitely is Way better than 1, and they even make even more great music in wild arms 2 the character proportion is better, the world is Big, the level design is better, it introduce a ton of new Mechanics, i like Wild Arms 2 More than Wild Arm 1, it's more fun to play, but, yes, Wild Arm 1 definitely got that atmosphere. can't get wrong with Wild arms 1, 2, and 3, all of them are solid games also, it's better to judge it yourself and not letting yourself influenced by other people opinion, because i'll be pissed too if someone insult my favorite childhood game, even if everyone said it was a bad game for me it was the best game .
this list has the potential to spawn so many other best of lists.... best tactical rpgs, best action rpgs, best final fantasy rpg, best dragon quest rpg, etc...

Any video that gives Chrono Cross the love it deserves, gets a like from me. Its one of the best games ever made. Also, very glad to see FFIX top the list. IX is still,to this day,the best FF game made.
I admittedly haven’t played them since I was a kid so my apologies if they haven’t held up, but I have mad nostalgia for Legend of Legaia and Jade Cocoon.
Happy to know that Xenogears, Legend of Dragoon,Parasite Eve,Wild Arms BOF and lunar is on the list.. thought Legaia and Tales of Destiny II (Etenia)was also on it as I saw them on the vid
Especially Tales of Destiny 2 or Eternia, because this game is severely underrated, it was an Amazing Game, even "Amazing" still fall short to describe how awesome this game is. i don't know why but for some reason Tales game never get the love they deserved, is it bias? is it because they used Anime style?
FF8 is the one I have most nostalgia for followed by FF7, I dunno why people hate FF8 so much as I got through it easy when I were like 12 or whenever it came out.
Yes! Final Fantasy IX on TOP! It's definitely the best PS1 game, the best Final Fantasy game and my personal favourite video game of all time! I love FFIX!
Story wise and overall impact to pop culture, it's final fantasy 7 and 8 and symphony of the night if you count that also as an rpg but it's more action rpg
If FF Tactics is there, then Vandal Hearts 2 should have been too. It is, after all, one of the few such games that used simultaneous movement for you AND the Computer opponent. Amazing fun and good scenario. Also, quite a long game. Some battles took more than an hour - if you wanted to ace them like I did hehe. :)
i will never understand why people choose bof3 over 4, bof4 is a game that stuck with me after so many years of having played it, and i like bof3 a lot, in fact i played and loved the first 4 but by far imo the best is 4.
I never beat wild arms 1 on the ps1 lol, that damn chest puzzle after the MC lost his arm. Didn't have internet access at home to look at the walkthrough 😂 i beat the remake for the ps2 though, love it
Final Fantasy 8 is my fav along with 7 one thing i loved was how the summons worked which they changed in 10 so didn't enjoy it along with 12. FF9 I now got it on Switch enter the ice care fought 2 bosses & lost because now I have to grind so early in the game nah I good. The rest of games look good maybe one day I'll play them.

If you think FF Anthology doesn't actually belong here, then you could've added it to a "special mentions" category. And while you're at it, might as well consider Monster Rancher 2 in that category for being a "non-traditional RPG". Also, where's Alundra? PS1 CD pirated was even far cheaper than my previous genesis/ SNES/ NES, like 10x times cheaper lol. The only thing I didn't play at all on this list was only FF IX,.

Legend of Legaia is awesome, so underrated. Loved the story, characters and music as well.
It's only good at the beginning. Towards the end. You get so many actions that every random encounter takes up 5mins with the animations.
