We are shocked how expensive things are in Australia. Do you agree?

Yes mate, it really is worrying. Certainly with any luxuries like eating out you need to be very selective where you spend money. I home brew from time to time mainly for fun but now I'm going to get back into it to save money. I've been expecting it with coffee as there hasn't been any large jumps in pieces that I've noticed in the past 3 years.

After 12 years we decided to leave Australia!
We love here, but cost of living is crazy now, and as a family we don't enjoy our life!
We just want simple life and not worry everyday about money !
Thank you Australia, in this 12 years I became a better person
And here I met the best person of my life.. my wife..

In Germany the prices also ran out of control for food and energy during the last two years. In the pubs and restaurants it seems to be the same like in Australia, everything is very expensive. A lot of people eat and drink only at home now.

Hey Richard, yes I agree that prices in Australia have gone up so much in the past 10 to 15 years. I've had a couple of trips to the Philippines and Thailand over the last 18 months and it really hits home just how expensive Australia has become. Not good!

Totally agree mate. The variety Bali offers for drinks and snacks is so much bigger too.
Just got back today and I'm planning on using some of our Asian groceries store instead.
I need to find Pocari sweat here somewhere hopefully.
    I bet it won't be 70 or 80 cents if I do.

The worst thing about visiting Bali is the “Bali price hangover”. You’re constantly aware in Australia just how eating out has become not just expensive, but seeing how service standards have fallen: reduced business hours, untrained/unhappy staff and business owners claiming they can’t make a decent profit notwithstanding putting their prices up. Only cure for the Bali hangover is of course to go back!

I try not to buy too many snacks or processed food and stick to fresh fruit, veg and minimal meat...occasionally mince or chicken. I always buy eggs and dried legumes for extra protein. Milk is reasonable, although cheese and butter are getting pricey. Yep, the cost of living in Oz has certainly increased since covid. House rental cost is scary.

Hi Richard, interesting you should mention coffee. We're in Sth Aust, just last night on the news (which we rarely watch main stream news) we were told that coffee is about to skyrocket because of poor growing seasons round the world. Cafe owners in Australia state that a coffee is already $1-2 per cup less than they should be but they fear if they put them up any further then nobody will buy anymore. They're talking about the costs possibly doubling. That will just about kill off cafes in Australia altogether.
