As a mental health nurse and psychotherapist for 30 years, I can assure you that her pattern of offending does not square with her excuse of (unnamed and nonspecific) mental health issues. Theft due to mental health issues would either look like walking out of the shop with something openly in your hands (due to not being aware of what you're doing), or something very bizare (like attempting to hold up a bank with a obviously fake plastic gun by handing over a deposit slip for them to deposit the money into your account and then being picked up by the police while you walk home - because you are hoping to be punched on the nose by a police man so that you can get a nose job on ACC because you think don't like your nose and can't afford to get a nose job - because you have schizophrenia and are on the invalids benefit). Those are the two types of theft you get from mental health problems. The distracted/accidental, and the frankly bizarre. Golriz explaining her shop lifting away as mental health (non specified mental health) sounds an awful lot like an excuse.
Also, won't she be debarred from practicing law for breaking the law?

I have seen a very similar case of an MP in Canada shoplifting and likewise leaving Parliament. I'm sure it's some sort of self-destructive impulse, perhaps part of the complex of motivations it takes to be an elected politician.

It is stressful to suddenly find yourself without an income - Golriz however gets no sympathy from me. I found myself in that position, quite suddenly, when my marriage ended and my ex-husband made me redundant and removed all financial support for me and our two children. It was also lockdown. I was distressed. I was traumatized. I was enduring endless psychological and financial abuse. Yet I did not steal and I did not lie. Golriz is entitled and disingenuous; a product of the ideologies she promotes.
