I live in central Tokyo and I also spend about 800-900€ per month for living. A good sharehouse room is about 450€ and I live 15 mins away from Shinjuku and Shibuya, so very close. There are also sharehouse rooms for 250-350€. Living in Japan is not that expensive. However, the salaries there are very low! minimum wage is about 6-7€ per hour in Tokyo.
I’m one of those people thinking I need significantly more for a Japan travel. Would be great if you can talk about what visa you are on and how to get it.
I used a regular tourist visa... Luckily I get 90 days on arrival so it was very easy as I only stayed in Japan for 1.5 months. My husband had to apply for a tourist visa through the embassy when he visited, but the process was very straight forward.
I would say it's possible, but not very comfortable. You would also need to consider health care & visa costs. Plus I would want some budget to travel and maybe visit home at least every second year. All of this wasn't relevant in my case, but should be considered if you want to stay there long term. It's not impossible, but you would need to budget very well.
Thanks for your information ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Your welcome 🤗

Can I afford to live in Japan if my pension is $1,200 a month.
