For the gifts, I was expecting you to mention the customary omiyagi which seems like it would be an expensive part of one's budget. Did you not feel pressured to gift your Japanese friends/coworkers/teacher/classmates/etc?
Yes. Those expenses were just for me. Again though are a lot of ways to save money. Living in a share house is a good way to do that as you don’t really need to buy any appliances for furniture. So you’re start costs are very low. And Sharehouse rent tends be a lot cheaper than a regular apartment.

@@faminjapan4094 Thanks for the response!! I gonna check all the living options then. And also, Will you do a video bout ISI kyoto? Are you going to be at kyoto by January 2024?😱
I almost choked at the 650 you mentioned for the language school. I thought that was a monthly amount until you said it was the up front cost for the year. Phew.
Wow Excellent breakdown of expenses..you were really pragmatic and thoughtful..mahalo..!
Thank you for this. Well done.
Thank you.
Thanks for the comprehensive video. I just found you through your Lets move to Japan FB post. Sent a friend request

There were some omiyage in there but I found that it wasn’t too expensive. The more expensive items were for friends and family back in the US.
Are those expenses for a single person? (Groceries, restaurants) Cuz I’m going to ISI next year and im planning my budget! Great explanation!

$650 is actually the pro-rated monthly amount. Most language schools in Japan cost about $7000-$8000 a year.
So what’s the total ?
About $3265 U.S. at the time of the video.
