Also - if you want to get some quality time with kangaroos in Perth, the best place by far is Caversham Wildlife Park. You can explore an open area populated with dozens of kangaroos in a relaxed natural/garden environment, and you can even hand-feed them. This wildlife park also has a veritable zoo of other native Australian wildlife you can see as well. :)

For next time you're at Rottnest, I would recommend the bus over a bike. Biking can be a pretty slow and exhausting way to get to the most remote parts of the island, and especially if you're on a day trip (not staying on the island), it's just not a good use of your limited time unless you really love cycling. There's a bus service that does a lap of the island once per hour (even more frequently in summer), and it allows you quick and easy access to the whole island, to places where you can often find you have the whole beach to yourself. There's lots of bus stops, so you can jump off at one stop, explore on foot and return to a different stop. The only downside is that it's not the most professional service and sometimes they miss a scheduled service, or the buses fill up and cannot pick up any more passengers, so you can get stranded for an extra hour sometimes, so don't rely on the last bus to get you back to your ferry home!

When I went to Rotnest three Quokas stopped in front of my bike and made excited noises. While distracted another one sneaked up and took two muesli bars from my backpack and ran off at speed into the distance. Possibly most of the Quokas are now serving sentences for robbery and theft and not on the Island

I drink a lot of water throughout the day and when your body "knows" water is plentiful it will make you go to the toilet more often. However when there is a crisis I think most people's bodies will also adapt. I was driving from Sofia, Bulgaria to Istanbul Turkey. It is 550km so far but not too far. However I made the great mistake arriving at 17:00 (5 PM) in the outskirts of Istanbul (which are 75km from my hotel) And I was in a 3 HOUR traffic jam!!! There were 4 of us in the car and everyone managed to "hold it in" somehow... Even me. I am happy you were with normal people in the plane. Thanks for sharing this story.

We forget how good we have it here, we are not only a lucky country but a lucky people to live in Perth. It may be viewed as expensive but it is a hell of a lot cheaper than cities in Europe (of course exchange rates do not help). Also, not sure if mentioned in the comments, the kangaroo and a number of animals are nocturnal. A good place to see the animals is Perth Zoo.
