Slow Trolling Dead Bait for Cobia and Kingfish

Finding bait was hard today so we trolled dead cigar minnows for Kingfish and Cobia! The good news is the fish were hungry and were hitting our dead bait!

Hooks:
I typically use a #6 treble hook when fishing with pogeys (menhaden) or ribbonfish.
If I am using Blue Runners or Goggle Eyes in a tournament I might go up to a #4 hook though. amzn.to/2MLoj2K amzn.to/2G5gHYn
Most reels I use are TLD 20's. These are great all around reels though for Kingfish a reel with a faster retrieve is more ideal, like a torque, fathom, or speed master. amzn.to/2ltpYk5

Thank you! If we are just trolling cigar minnows I might roll up to 4 mph or so. Sometimes I’ll troll some dead cigar minnows with my live bait at 1 to 2 mph though.

Sometimes I’ll tell some dead ones at the same speed at live bait (1.5 to 2 mph) but if I’m only trolling dead cigar minnows I’ll troll around 3 or 4 mph.

Yeah! You can do that with cigar minnows, Spanish mackerel, and ribbon fish as well.
