Kingfish on Artificial Lure in Jacksonville Florida

In this video, bait was hard to get so we started off pulling artificial lures at around 4 mph. It didn't take us long to catch Kingfish this way. The advantage to starting the day trolling artificial lures is that you can troll faster than you could with live bait. You could also trolled dead rigged bait, like cigar minnows or ballyhoo.
Later in the morning Capt. Chris and Wyatt from Hott Pursuit Charters gave us some extra live pogeys they caught which we also caught Kingfish on.

Hooks:
I typically use a #6 treble hook when fishing with pogeys (menhaden) or ribbonfish.
If I am using Blue Runners or Goggle Eyes in a tournament I might go up to a #4 hook though. amzn.to/2MLoj2K amzn.to/2G5gHYn
Most reels I use are TLD 20's. These are great all around reels though for Kingfish a reel with a faster retrieve is more ideal, like a torque, fathom, or speed master. amzn.to/2ltpYk5

Always leave the Clicker on that tells the captain where the fish is going. Dave is a small fish. Nice kings guys. Have a great one.

Enjoyed the video thx. Start freezing kingfish bellies to make strips for trolling like you would do with Bonita. Use little mylar skirts in front. I’m sure you know all this...
