NS 231 Double Stack Intermodal Train Street Running on 6th Street in Augusta, GA

On a early cloudy morning, a rerouted NS 231 passes through downtown Augusta, GA going to Atlanta via South Carolina due a washout and a derailment on the Savannah-Macon mainline. History was also made as this train is the first double stack intermodal train to run on the R Line between Augusta and Columbia as the bridges over the Savannah River and Congaree River in Augusta and Columbia have been worked on. We see 231 going through 6th Street in downtown as a trio of GEs pull the big train out of town. As a bonus, we also see NS P70 coming back into Augusta later in the afternoon with the NS 6920 Veterans unit leading the short train.

h chase Savannah, made the reroute turn at Millen, GA to go on the D line, went through Waynesboro, Augusta, going north, then ultimately passing the GA/SC border.

Great shoot. Was at the derailment washout today. N/S has the track in place was rock place. Still need leveling done and Ballast worked. Wash out look to be 1/2 mile long with 28 rail cars destroyed.
