I feel this man would be not only my mechanic but even my psychotherapist
This gentleman is a suspension genius
Not really lol. Just different tone. Try ask Morgan Freeman to narrate suspension setup. With Han Zimmer as scoring. And directed by Christopher Nolan.
That would be EPIC O.O! lolz
Hahaha, love it! Bob Ross of suspension!
:D
While I'm certainly no novice when it come to suspension setup, I still really enjoyed this..... Great info, laid out in easily to understand terms and the interviewer didn't interrupt with a bunch of useless replies. Well done guys!
ThunderStruckCoach well put. I totally agree.
This is probably one of the best suspension setup video's I've watched. I love how the focus is on setting it up to the rider. Notice how he glossed over sag/air spring rate and said that will change based on how hard you're pushing the bike. Explaining how he gets balanced and focusing on no compression unless needed to adjust ride high in certain sections of trail is huge. Much much better than the other sag/rebound/compression setup videos.
This man has the enviable skill of talking sense, while performing a delicate mechanical operation. For me it's either-or.
Absolutely no nonsense set up tips and recommendations. He knows his stuff.
ASMR for mountainbike guys. Loved this. Lots of good information. Thanks for sharing.
Who knew Ser Jorah knew so much about suspension
This is the best technical video I have seen in quite some time. Chris Porter took a deep dive into the material rather than just handing out factory spec. guidelines. Although he suggested baselines he explained what to look for while adjusting for terrain/surface and rider style. Great explanations! Thanks so much! That was a true Master Class.
Here I an one year later to seccond that. I would like to add that the reporter was great by staying silent and letting the master teach, his tone overflows knowledge and commands attention with ease... beautifull... as a newbie learned so much from this great video... I'm watching this 2 years later, still spot on.
@@arfmfwell said!
love his honesty. "don't use that" (the high speed compression on the fork). saying you should try to get the air pressure and volume spacers to do the work of getting it balanced and correct before you start using compression. Good stuff
Great video, Im a return mountain biker after an 18 year gap. Sooo much to learn. My other bikes were coil so good to get an understsnding. Ive had to learn all the riding skills again so Im not very agressive out on the track. I was only using half the travel from other recommended setups. I see now that I need to set it up for me and by current riding style. Thank you for this, great vid!
Really enjoyed this. Gave me a lot to think about with my setup on my Fox 36 and X2. I'd be stoked to see more content like this.
Love the background info on *why* you would bother with some of these settings. Best suspension set-up vid I have seen in a while!
That guy could teach anything and make it interesting and easy to learn! Great video guys!
Really great video ! I have watched a lot of suspension setup vids so far, but this is really one of the best.
That's a great 12 minutes. He really knows his stuff.
That was so soothing to watch
By far the most educational suspension setup i've ever watched!!!! Thanks for the great info
over complicated load of bollox my head is hurting.
Dude was awesome. Love his chill demeanor. Need more like him around.
This is so good. I've been thinking about low speed compression a lot lately and this really set off a lightbulb for me. Using LSC to load either the front or the rear during corners is something that would have taken me a long time to come up with.
This was really helpful, thanks!
This was an amazing video!
I took notes! Very informative
Excellent! Will be using this video to help with my setup. Thanks 👍🏻
Bloody thank you, I was going bonkers with the x2 setup
Enjoyed every second of this video! Nicely and understandable explanation, more info here than most 20min or more suspension videos!
I m already curious for your next posts. Good job guys!! 👌
How amazing would it be to have him setup our bikes! I've got missed feelings after watching this video. On one hand I now realize just how amazing a proper suspension setup it. On the other hand I'm wondering if I will ever even come close to knowing enough to get my suspension dialed in. Even if I think my suspension is dialed in today I'm going to wonder if it could be better. Great video!
Regular Guy Mountain Biking don’t obsess over it. Just ride your bike.
This video will eventually end up on one of those unintentional ASMR channels with a zillion views. Great info and very soothing.
Thank you for teaching sen master!
Spot on tutorial mate 👍✋
Thank you.
best explanation ever
This video makes me feel like I set up my bike completely wrong.
You’re not wrong
Some good tips, which ill be trying on tomorrows ride, but now I need this for my Bos DeVille and Bos Kirk , they are a PITA ...
Very nicely explained. Even a new understands it.
Excellent informative stuff, thanks
SIr, I need you in my life. Suspension angel of some sort!!
I finally know how to set up rebound. This lad is suspension God
Great explanation thanks. I lock the fork on my HT on smooth standup climbing, for support.
Master class indeed!👍🏻
We need more videos like this
Great video Chris Porter can you do one video on the fox dpx2 and fox 36 fit4 150 mm boost
He blesses the suspension.
Excellent.
Crackin legend. Epic boss, mega respect. Good man.
So awesome. Master Jedi.
WOW EXCELLENT VIDEO
cool video!
I like Chris' rebound approximation test of looking at the entire bike as it moves through travel (car park test). Haven't heard that one before.
BRILLIANT !!!
EPIC!!! THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!!
nice man...it was so clear
Can you pls do a review setup tune for the fox dpx2
what is the meaning of life?........ suspension setup....... suspension setup is the meaning of life.
Hahahaha
i love this guy
thank*s for that useful lnformations!!!
This guy is my hero
Good stuff!
Great info 👍🏻
This is some info right here!!!
Great thank you 🤙
I use low speed compression on my hard tail fork to keep the front end higher preserving the geometry.
8:25 great strategy for setting rebound. Something that has always troubled me. Thanks!
Also summer and winter temps will need different rebound speeds because of the chain oil viscosity
mate this guy knows his physics
Jorah has recovered well from the greyscale
That information was completely lost on me but, I still enjoyed it!
Mind still boggled...what are volume spacers for?
Amazing 😳
Well put information
Perfect
What was the reason for so many volume spacers in the X2? Did you bottom out?
Super video
How much does the tester Jamie weight and how much pressure is he running in the shock thanks??
Good insight....don't believe I caught what the high and low speed rebound settings were on the X2 shock. Anybody??
The brain on this guy
Would set up be the same for dpx2?
Wow! I didn't know Jorah Mormont knew so much about suspension!!!
Did he just add one compression spacer in place of the red one? 80 KG myself and running about 170psi and already added one extra in place of the red one (three total) is it safe to run 2 extra total of 4 in a 2.25 shock?
Can you please tell me how much torque is needed to attach my Fox Van RC Performance to my 2018 Mondraker Summum ?
Love the wheels on that bike! Which model wheels are those?
Don't know the model, but those are Crank Brothers.
I have a Fox float DPS can You do jumps on firm mode?
On firm mode should be completely stiff?
Mine on firm mode still does movements
what are those rims/wheels they look nice...
Also this guy is sir jorah mormont the shock whisperer
Ahhh the sound of a gritty fox compression dial on its way to seizing up .... great
He should be a genius to match a 34 fork with an x2 shock
Thim can you explain what you mean by this?
I just bought this shock , I'm Going to be running it with a boxxer on a gt fury 1.0 what happens if I don't put volume spacers in it ? I'm 190 , I have no clue about this shock I'm kinda scared feel like I bought something really exspensive an it's going to suck !
He is the Oracle of all things springy
This is ASMR for me
I own a hardtail... yet I'm here watching this!
I wish they had a mojo in the states..
Ok, I weigh 95kg 100 at most. I ride a Giant anthem 2015 27,5 120 F 90mm R. I ride everything actually on this bike. I find it hard to hop a 10cm street curb without hitting denting my rear wheels. It's annoying. I know it's my tire pressure and suspension setup. What do you guys suggest?
I currently run 95psi front and 235psi-240psi in the rear shock. rebound is one thing I don't understand. the rear is very slow just 2 clicks to fully open/slow and the front on fork is like halfway/12clicks (21 clicks altogether)
I run 2.2 rear TR tires 38psi when dry and 28 in wet conditions 2.2 front 35 dry 26psi wet.
Locking out the front is for climbing and sprinting out of the saddle in XC racing.
Nice seeing hope brakes on a bike.
That little black dial on my 36 FIT4 is an "OPEN MODE" compression adjuster. Not a LSC adjuster. Is the 34 FIT4 set up differently?
The adjuster for the open mode is lowspeed compression
Jedi of Suspension
I live in Oregon can I ride it on the beach
Watch it...and watch it again.
Hi guys...I have a Rockshox revelation series 150mm fork...and I can not put any volume spacers i side becouse there is no thread on the inside of the air cap...those this mean that my fork isn't compatiable with volume spacers or I can buy a threaded volume top cap and put volume spacers inside
You should be able to buy a threaded top cap from SRAM that will let you run bottomless tokens. Cheers
cool
how is that bottle cage mounted? zip ties, but is there something else?
Hi Go For The Win, I've just used a regular bottle cage and fed some zip ties through it. I ran a short section of gear outer inside vertically down the cage though, to give the zip ties something to feed around. Also, there's a rubbery bit of old light mount under the bottle cage to give it some grip.
Great video but I’m still confused due to conflicting information on the net, I’ve Fox 34 Elite 2017, ride all sorts really but try to stay off fire roads. So the Ride Fox website says 15 to 20% for my model (actually they only list 120mm but mines 130) sag tool provided was for 120 as well. Most other videos including this one state 25 - 30% sag. So in my case rode all the black runs at my local trail centre fairly spicy i would say and only used 70% of my suspension all day. Do i ignore the FOX website and go with 30% which may help me use all my suspension or carry on using 15 - 20% and try volume spacers? Surly fox that designed the fork knows best?
Try a slightly lower pressure in the fork and slightly more sag. Don't add volume spacers, as this will only make it harder to use all the travel.
Mountain Bike Rider thanks for the reply - i meant to say take out a volume spacer - I’ll try more sag and play about with it
