They look like the cafe burnished from the factory shop website that I've been looking at? I think you've made the right choice with the soles, the ones they are sold with don't look good!

12 years on those Cheaneys !!? that's the way to do it, and they look the dogs dangly bits. I wonder who the well heeled chap in PortTalbot is, it's only up the road, I might know him ;)
I look forward to hearing more about the new, softer commando soles. I've always found the commando (and really all the classic British soles) to be very hard, quite uncomfortable and poor wearing. The best "commando pattern" sole I've come across was a Vibram one used by Red Wing on the Ice Cutters. Softer rubber meant both comfort and long-lasting (I think this will be my 10th Winter wearing them). A softer commando might go some way to helping matters!

How do you test for cardboard heel stacks?
they break up rather than peel off in one piece when you take them off. They really should use leather if they are even mildly expensive.
