£30 Pair of Cheaney Boots!!? Economical Sole & Heel Shoe Repair By Doncaster Cobbler
Love it! Perfect for jeans and chinos days - which are most days anyway. You did a great a job.
Your client should have bought a paper of Doc Martens instead of changing the stitching on a pair of classy, elegant boots to white. There's no accounting for some people's tastes.
Originals design for me
Ok noted 👍
Great Job. But not worth compromising the original construction and structural integrity of a brand new factory made boot. Waste of money really. Had it been a resoling or rebuilding job after a few years of wear, then it would be understandable and worthwhile.
You might be right.....it was a lot of effort. The boot went back together perfectly, and we would guarantee the work we did forever, but it would have been simpler with a rebuild. 👍
As the old saying goes, ‘job would be easy if it wasn’t for customers’ 😊, we’re they dark leaf? Btw
Yes, dark leaf 🤣
I've a pair of these and they're quite casual imo anyway (better fit for me than the Trickers Stow too as that's needs a higher volume foot ime). Lovely job all the same and the customer's always right lol
You're absolutely right the Trickers do need big wide feet to fill them .... Not my skinny things. Antony
First time they get polished, that stitching ain't staying white 😂
Too true 👍
I would immediately polish to tone it down. I actually like what he has done.
Thought trickers made belstaff boots ? Grenson are now , well a collaboration between the two
No way, all the ones we have done on the channel have been nice looking, but poorly constructed boots with mock welts and a hefty price tag. Yes we have seen they have recently bought one model out made in conjunction with Grenson constructed properly, but as far as we know it’s a one off. Maybe they have done it so people think all the others are now made properly?
Disappointing to hear that , I love belstaff jackets and have a collection Also several trickers boots n shoes but can’t complain about them Have some Ethan monkey boots that need a re-sole heel so will be in touch
Yes they make some lovely jackets and clothes👌 look forward to hearing from you.
How much did it cost? I honestly really liked the finished look as it will get the wearer tons of attention, good and bad no doubt.😂
The boot retails at £495 so without any first-time buyers discount of 10%, I'd probably just put an extra £20 on....that's making it around £70 but it takes soooo long to do!!
@@shoehealer8853 Oh that's a bargain then. A real labour of love from you guys to make such a personalised pair of boots for the customer.
They look fantastic. Although I don’t think I could have done this without wearing out the perfectly good heel first and jazz it up next time.
Thankfully the original heel and heel stack went straight back on, quite a big job really. It's a fine line to do it on a new boot, your right.
Honestly I think it looks great
Thank you 😊
Great looking boots. I like them before and after.
Cheers mate 👍
Lovely workmanship. I didn’t know Stevie Wonder was a customer of yours. I say in jest of course, the world would be a very boring place if we all had the same taste.
Very well said 🤣 Thanks for commenting 👍
I don't think the customer's taste and mine are the same (I'm being diplomatic) but that was a very neat job. I own the Tweed myself in the "husk oiled leather" which I believe is a vegetable tanned leather and it has the Vibram Vi-lite Genepy sole unit which makes it a lot lighter. The leather though creases more dramatically than any other footwear in my collection and I'm not sure if it is a feature of the leather or poor clicking but it is definitely a rustic leather with some much lighter colour close to the welt where the leather was stretched when lasted.
The customer really was a very nice guy and if I'd have said it was too much trouble he would have been fine with just the ligher edges. It sounds like you have a very different looking boot with some lovely patina....I do like different 😉 Antony
@@shoehealer8853 Yes, the Tweed was available in three colours and each had a different sole. Tweed R (Dark Leaf), Tweed C (almond ) and Tweed GV in a dark brown.
You said what I thought about that custom job What a faff but if he wanted that … Lovely Lovely boots 😍👍
He was such a lovely chap to work with 👍
@@shoehealer8853 More the merrier 🤗🤗
Great job! Being a Cheaney wearer, I did wince and shake my head at that request. 😮😣
Really nice customer....if I'd looked put out for even a second, he wouldn't have bothered having it done. I think he's going to be a customer for life ! Let see what he comes up with next....
@@shoehealer8853 That's fair enough. Obviously, the customer has taste and appreciates good workmanship and style.
Looks bloody good mate.
Thank you 😊
Great skills as always, Guys. We learn something every day. Love RupeeXXX ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much 😀
Look great. Very professional work as ever. All the best Pete
Thank you! Cheers!
Very well done on achieving a more contemporary / casual look that the customer asked for. Sure, it might not be to everyone's taste but it's not their boots! The stitching and edge finishing is clearly done to a high standard that you wouldn't know that this conversion was not done at the Cheaney factory - great job!!
Wow, thank you so much 👍
The contrast of the natural edging looks great. I’m not too keen on the white thread though, I still prefer the original look. The workmanship is top class. Great video
Thank you so much for your comments and your participation. 👍
They look great. I don’t think they look more casual than they were before. The speed hooks at the top make them casual to me, as speed hooks are country walking boots, casual boots & army boots. So yeah 👍🏻 the customer made a good call. 🙂
Cheers buddy 👍
Great job, I think they look good.
Thanks Tony
They look good, I prefer natural welts and linen stitching.
Thanks Jay 🙏
They look GREAT ,everyone's got them with dark stitching . They are now Bespoke.
Indeed they are, thank you.🙏
Each to their own 😅 I've got this boot but in husk (brown) with the vi-lite sole. It's cracking! But sadly discontinued - absolutely no idea why they'd stop making them as I think they're the pick of the bunch. The dark leaf is better in the brogue derby shoe style rather than the boot in my opinion but still a stunning boot!
They are gorgeous boots in any colour, thanks for watching as always Adam 🙏
Both looks great, I wouldn't add the white stitching but they are not my boots.
Both easily reversible though, but at least we have shown you something you haven’t seen before, now you know what you like best, which is the aim.
why... just why 🤷🏻♂️
Well at the very least you have now seen it done, even if you don’t want it doing yourself.
So, he wanted that Doc Martens look, but on a boot that's actually quality not trash. What's that line? You can not judge someone simply on their specific taste. Well, I judge the heck out of this dude's taste 😂😂😂. He probably buys bespoke Saville Row suits, he takes them home, puts one of them on and thinks to himself: 'Hmmm, you know what would make this look even better? If I wear a pair of red speedos on top of the trousers'
Well at the very least, you have seen it done now to know you don’t want it.
@shoehealer8853 You guys did a great job on them, like always. And who knows, some 20 year olds might actually like this look and Cheaney will have it as a buying option in the next years to attract them.
Thank you, wouldn’t be the first time, Trickers did it with the natural edge on theirs.
Like the polished edges, most of my boots have had this done, not crazy about the white stitching, to me cheapens them, but hey ho that's what the customer wants.
Yes, but hopefully we have shown you something you haven’t seen before to aid in future decision making.
Had 3x pairs of Ropers in the NT. Best quality money could buy. 8 yrs out of one pair .
It's great when you find a boot that works well for you. 👍
Isn't bookbinder a lower quality leather ?
Yes, that's absolutely right, but Church's bookbinder is probably the best out there. People love it because it's almost self shining, a bit of furniture polish, and you're away. It's not my thing, really.....too hard.
NEVER SEEN THAT CLAMP TOO..VERY INFORMATIVE VIDEO SIR🙏
What an awesome job you did with the Church’s shoes, I found your yt channel so interesting, now a new subscriber 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you 🙏
🌹14:20.. SIR IS THAT THE HAMMER?? YOU'RE NAILING HEEL?? NEVER SEEN THAT INTRUMENT💯💯👍👍👍SUBSCRIBED🙏
Thank you, if you are interested there is a really old video about that and some other old tools, it’s about 2 mins into this th-cam.com/video/cYUZmJOJYaE/w-d-xo.html
They are British army boots from the 80’s - commonly known as the “Falkland” boot. Introduced with a higher leg and stitched tongue to make them more water resistant after complains about the previous version during the Falklands campaign. I still have my pair I got in 1987.
Someone further down said they were called DMS boot combat high, but then someone else said they weren’t 😂
@@shoehealer8853boots DMS were ankle height and replaced by boots combat high. The ones you are working on are boots combat high. Northern Ireland boots were referenced earlier but I don’t think they are them. I liked the combats high but lots of complaints from folk about them as for some wearers they knackered their Achilles tendons. They were basically a cheap copy of German Para Boots
Appreciate the post 🙏
@@jimbaird8976 that’s interesting. I’ve stopped wearing my pair for long distance walking because they damage my Achilles heel.
Always learning on this channel 🙂
Amazing as always. If folk all moved to getting decent shoes that'd last decades instead of buying a pair or two of awful ones annually the world be so much the better . I love all of your videos, great ambassador for the independent shoe shop / cobbler 👌🎩😎
Thanks so much Seamus 🙏
cracking stuff Antony!
Thanks 🙏
I enjoyed this showing a variety of different jobs. Regarding the comments at the end, I have a very large footwear collection but mostly buy direct from the manufacturers. Apart from the cheaper prices I can usually get in the sales (because they sell direct) it is also about availability. I take a UK size 12 in most brands and most of the time when I have ordered online from an independent retailer I get a delay of two to three days and though they don't state it explicitly, I know they have just ordered my size from the manufacturer (exactly as I do most of the time) and then a few days later they send it on to me. If I go in person to a shop they very rarely have the shoe or boot I'm looking for and offer to order it in. I've even been to one of Cheaney's own shops, after a 200 hundred mile journey, to be faced with hardly any stock in my size and the shop literally ordered what I was looking for and had it sent to my home. Something I could have done myself a lot more easily. I understand that small retailers can't stock large amounts of expensive shoes that sell rarely. However, as a (larger) customer with larger feet, online works much better. I can try on in my home at my leisure, take my time to assess the footwear with no sales pressure and on the rare occasion I have got it wrong I can return, usually free of charge. I realise this is not good for small retailers but the reality is that I could visit my local city of more than half a million people and barely find any quality shoes in my size from most retailers. I can think of three that will sell a handful of models from traditional brands but almost certainly not in my size and one (The Brogue Trader) that might have a few pairs, mostly Loake but an outside chance of a Cheaney or Trickers. Online I have access to all the manufacturers ranges and often with substantial discounts of 30% to even 50% during the sales.
Well, I have to agree with you my friend, that is exactly what smaller retailers like myself do. We do have a slight edge with our connection to the repair side, where we can look after your old shoes whilst you look at the new shoes. Customers who really love quality footwear seem to enjoy seeing the shoes being dismantled and apprised before being rebuilt . If a customer with really large or really small feet is coming in, I would encourage them to call first so we can be ready. I do feel so bad when they've travelled a great distance and we have so little to offer. One other point is that I hear us retailers do offer far better customer service than many of the manufacturers. Thank you so much for your comments. Antony
@@shoehealer8853 I've no doubt that small retailers such as yourselves do offer excellent customer service and I know that you have a really good reputation and also offer custom make ups through your relationship with manufacturers like Trickers. I also really admire your honesty and do hope to use your services soon.
@@shoehealer8853 I know you have a very good reputation and offer excellent service, including being able to offer custom make ups from manufacturers you have a good relationship with. And it is refreshing that you don't skirt around the issues faced by small retailers. Regarding shoes taken apart, I actually get more pleasure from receiving back a rebuilt pair of shoes than a new pair and it is very satisfying to see them restored and looking so much better than when they were handed in yet still retain the character of a worn shoe. I used to have a sensible number of GYW shoes for work and apart from one Dainite pair (that were on their third Dainite sole at the end), mostly wore leather soles in rainy Scotland, so used to need a couple of re-soles a year across the half dozen pairs I used. Now I've an embarrassingly large number of shoes and boots that I rotate through, mostly rubber soled, so don't need nearly as much work done. I actually walk more now because I retired but there will be years between needing re-soles sadly.
Thank you so much for that lovely reply. Hopefully we can make a few good videos without upsetting the manufacturers. Probably no such thing as a bad shoe....just a bad price for certain shoes.
Excellent video, thankyou, more like this please! It's great to see all the stages and variety of work and innovative fixes that pass through your shop.
Thank you, seems to have gone down quite well this one, will try to do something similar again, but it did take a while to put it together.
Well done with those Trickers!
Thank you,yes they came out lovely.
Whose taking over when you retire.?
Absolutely no idea....My two daughters who love the occasional stint in the shop are busy with other things! We should offer the business up to the highest bidder. 🤣
Really enjoyed the video. Gordon Ramsey may not be pleased if you covered his food with ketchup but he is fine with mayonnaise! 😂. Does Toby heel more durable than Dainitel heel? How much for a pair of new solovair sole? Please do more of these videos.
Yes Topy is more durable, Solovair repair is £65. Thankyou, yes it seems to have gone down quite well this one so will definatly try to do something similar again, though it did take a while to make.
I’ve got a pair of Army boots and the Comando soles are melting. Rubber gone really sticky I need the done like those but probably have a Dainite sole or similar Or leather and a Topy cover sole
It's a big job, Mick.....if you're not wearing them, we could use yours in a video to show what happens to them. Soft and crumbly.👍
@@shoehealer8853 I will get them down to you then! With in a few weeks (before Christmas)
Thank you for the commando sole have it back for few weeks now wearing it every other day loving it very good work
Thanks for sending them in Phillip, so glad you are happy.😊
