A way to remember which lab values to check for each medication that works for me is you hold up 10 fingers and you spell out warfarin and theres 2 fingers left, so you will monitor PT and INR and when you spell out heparin you are left with 3 fingers, so you will monitor PTT. Hope that helps too!

I've used Level up RN throughout nursing school, and now I'm reviewing it in preparation for the NCLEX!! Your face during the little "war on vitamin K" mnemonic has lived rent-free in my mind the last year, and I think about it anytime I get a warfarin question, lol. Thanks for all your help in nursing school!

I always think about the guns aK 47s that are used in WAR when I think about Vitamin K being the antidote for WARfarin.

And for PT levels I think of physical training (PT) is needed for war...or physical therapy for after war.

Memory trick for warfarin and heparin:
people IN WAR shouldn’t take warfarin...oK? (monitor INR for patients on warfarin and have the antidote vitamin K available)
P.S help A PT Take heparin because it is given subq or iv ( monitor APPT in patients on heparin and have the antidote Protamine Sulfate available)
