    Today’s video is all about Antiplatelet vs Anticoagulant Blood Thinners for Nursing Students and NCLEX Review.
    The difference between antiplatelet vs anticoagulant blood thinners is important - if you give the wrong one to a patient, it could be life-threatening.
    Antiplatelets work by preventing blood platelets from sticking together and forming clots. Anticoagulants, on the other hand, keep your blood from clotting too much.
    Blood thinners are often prescribed for patients with heart problems or other conditions requiring regular monitoring of blood flow throughout the body.

    For those who are confused (like me☺) about what 'H/H' or 'H & H' means,
    it refers to the levels of Hemoglobin (Hb) and Hematocrit (Hct)
    Hemoglobin (Hb):
    Adult male: 13.5-17.5 grams per deciliter (g/dL)
    Adult female: 12.0-15.5 g/dL
    Newborn: 14.5-24.5 g/dL
    Children: 11.5-15.5 g/dL
    Hematocrit (Hct):
    Adult male: 38.8%-50.0%
    Adult female: 34.9%-44.5%
    Newborn: 45%-65%
    Children: 35%-45%

    I usually remember the antidotes this way:
    "In (H)eaven there is (P)eace.
    In (W)ar there is (K)aos"
    Heparin = Protamine Sulfate
    Warfarin = Vitamin K

    I really enjoy your videos over the other RN YT channels. But I do have some constructive criticism. I feel like the organization of the videos could be more structured. For instance, here you bring up the major nursing considerations of blood thinners at the very end of the lecture... it would also be nice if you provided a list of the meds you were going to cover... or even a note page of the disused topics for FREE. Just my suggestions :) anyways, love the content and the graphics.

      maybe the blood vessels in the leg are bigger than in the abdomen and could cause a fast absorption rate than desired? I'm not sure myself and would like to hear others educated guess.

    • @mist9965
      @mist9965 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The abdomen is generally the subcutaneous injection site with the fastest absorption rate. The arms have an average absorption rate, while the buttocks and thighs have a slower absorption rate.

      Yes Armani. Depending on your facility you will continue to check the aPTT level every 4-6hrs while the patient is receiving heparin until the patient is therapeutic, and then it will be drawn daily as long as they are therapeutic. hope this helps!😊

    • @mist9965
      @mist9965 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Clinically yes, but not on the exam question, because heparin is usually used "short term" so no need for "frequent" blood tests.

    Isn't there a difference between PTT and aPTT? Just want to make sure I remember correctly.

    • @mist9965
      @mist9965 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Partial thromboplastin time (PTT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) are used to test for the same functions; however, in aPTT, an activator is added that speeds up the clotting time and results in a narrower reference range. The aPTT is considered a more sensitive version of the PTT and is used to monitor the patient’s response to heparin therapy.
      The reference range of the aPTT is 30-40 seconds.
      The reference range of the PTT is 60-70 seconds.
