Love all holden and ford fans coming together and appreciating both beasts
Yeah it's a far cry from the old days when they wanted to kill each other.
Personally I've always owned Holden and HSVs but I couldn't resist buying a XR6 Turbo. 😀
ive always loved both sides! amazing machines
@@RossReviewsau Thts the only pure statement I've heard in this whole review bud. Otherwise... well you know🙂👍
A nice non bias review. Being an f6 owner I really do miss the V8, it can excite you whilst retaining your license. The F6 is only fun when you’re being naughty hence rarely using it’s potential
You can have fun boosting in lower gears under the speed limit
I got an xr8 and the reason being you can always hear that rumble even when doing the speed limit. Yes turbo's are faster but its just not as fun without that wicked sound, in my opinion anyway. Long Live Ford.
i fully agree with you man.. V8 much easier to have fun at low speed.. f6 is dangerous
I dontget what u just said. A V8 so u can keep your licence? What does that mean?
R u saying a V8 isn't fast enough to lose your licence?
I'm lost.
@@dcr1545 Bro how did you misinterpret him so badly lmao
Love my Holdens, but mate! What bloke could resist a masterpiece of a machine the F6 is.
glad you can appreciate both brands! gotta love em eh ;)
@@RossReviewsau oh heck yeah!
I'm a Ford guy through and through but I have a VF SS sitting in my driveway
That maloo sounds amazing for a stock exhaust!
it did eh! had a soft limiter tho :( 4k
@@RossReviewsau can be easily taken off
That exhaust wasn't stock man, listen to it at the start.....poppin and fartin
@@cameronsmith8730 It has a Bi Modal exhaust from factory and that with the butterfly valves opened up. Yes, it is stock
Ikr
I’m lucky and blessed enough, to own a 310 and Xy Gt rep. The old school cammed and worked Clevo is just plain fun ! The F6 is just an absolute weapon ! Bit like a 2 stoke yz 250 v a Wr 450 f dirt bike !
I had one too brother! That was the best car i ever had.. felt like it was swallowing up the roads with endless potential
Also, something to keep in mind when looking at it's interior for example, Ford insisted on competing with Holden's V8's with their own V8 models in marketing, and didn't push their turbo cars as the V8 competitors they truly were. People even saying Ford said the turbo power outputs were lower than they actually were, to make their V8 models look better for sales.
This is true.. ford couldn't have the 4L 6 with more power than there more expensive 5.4L V8 haha
Imagine if Ford used the Coyote engines......Holden would have to shut shop for good.
@@cameronsmith8730 imagine if ford wasn't an American & global corp bigger than GM... 🤷🏻♂️
@@Deafening_Silence_333 CAMS decide who wins or loses on the track Dumb nuts not GMH or Ford 🦼
.
Both of these cars interior and even the driveline are incredibly outdated even from the day they were released
the leaf springs are actually more useful if you are hauling heavy loads. a mate of mine put 3 dirt bikes in the back of his VZ ute, the rear end sagged. that would not have happened with leaf springs. thats why the falcon ute is all round more practical, you got the barra which can do INSANE amounts of horsepower, and you got that increased load capacity, also a lot of fun to drive as a daily, no matter what variant you drive, NA, turbo or F6. dont get me wrong, the maloo is a lot of fun to drive, an ex girlfriend of mine, her brother had one, let me take it for a spin, it was a blast. but i dont like all the extra bells n whistles, they would be distracting to a less experienced driver. and as for me personally, i personally believe that less is more.
your not wrong there mark.. the ford is more practical in that sense for sure
@@RossReviewsau i worked at pedders for a while, suspension work, it gave me a keen understanding of the limitations of the suspension for both models of ute
Ha ha should have seen the VZ ute i loaded up with paving bricks ha ha.. felt like it was gonna brake in half.. would have been an easy 2tonne of pavers in the back.. work ute so didnt care, but can tell ya that ute was never the same after ha ha..
Both great but if I had to choose , the blue blood flowing through my veins would see the F6 parked in the driveway . At least with the leaf springs it could actually be used as a ute far more readily than coils in the Maloo.. The proper work utes that Ford built always had leaf springs for that reason I believe ...
The Lame Ford might be a Ute, but the Maloo is a Monaro with a big boot, and unlike the Ford……Gorgeous.
Sensational stuff, mate!! Great work, well done! 👌
thanks so much mate
Hi Ross,
Great review was a joy to watch. Such a shame both are no longer in production. Something missed 🙂- some safety issues - the Maloo has poor driver visibility particularly with looking over your shoulder and to the rear where as the f6 is good and the Maloo has smaller side mirrors with reduced visibility 🙂. The F6 scores better on driver visibility🙂. Either way they are both fantastic pieces of machine.
cheers Phil! yes i did say that but ended up making the video shorter n cut it out.. the VE has terrible rear visibility! really really bad haha
Mate I love the thrown back into your seat feel.
the best
F6 can carry a fair amount more weight than the maloo just due to the suspension. Also who wants all them apps when you have a turbo lol
they sure can hold more.. i really want them EDI apps sorry haha
This is true but let's face it, these are both too pretty for work Ute's. As great as the barras are they lack in tech.
@@Seymour_butts your profile is giving me biast vibes
@@SkiRacingOz I've got a gts and putting a boosted barra next to it at the end of the year. Not biased at all, I actually hate the "rivalry" it's always bogans with slow cars who cry about a badge. Real enthusiasts see a good car for what it is. Irs is for proformance not for hauling payloads on site, these are sports utes. And it's a shame when a Hyundai the same year comes with more tech than both.
@@Seymour_butts I agree to an extent but they are still utes and I think they should still, be able to do things any other ute can but yeah, the lack of tech is something else
Both cars are cool. Good to see the Australian made engine take the cake. I was lucky enough to spend a week at the ford engine plant in Geelong, was very cool!
The Barra is pure Aussie 🇦🇺🥵love em both tho
Geelong.
@@tinman7781 Fixed, thanks!
👍 the recent content.
The hsv is also irs rear wich makes it handle better but if you look at vin tags in the door jam the hsv is classed as a passenger vehicle and the Ford is a commercial vehicle. As the leaf springs make.
And the Ford has a bigger pay load.
For me that was one of the biggest deal breakers for buying the f6, i decided to go maloo instead. I get the ford has a much higher payload but i think ford should have ditches the leaf springs on the fpv range and gone with better handling to match there performance. Still a great though
glad your enjoying the content mate :)
@@Tom-dn2qv agree with you on fpv having irs would have been a good thing as a performance option goes. But unlike the hsv fpv had to work with a rear chassis and with only a fraction of hsv budget it's was never an option. We're the hsv is based on a station wagon floor plan.
@@myxrutefalcon269 interesting point regarding the wagon footprint, i get what you are saying but couldn't ford have done the same thing given they have a wagon variant?
@@Tom-dn2qv The wagon also ran leaf springs.
Imagine sitting in the passenger seat and old mates just putting shit on your ride. 😆
;) no insult is left un said lol
I own this model maloo. And I bloody love it. Mine kills fords. Maybe because of the mods I’ve done. Holden built a big winner with this model and I feel it beats the later models as well. Thanx for the video. I’m stoked with my girl.
always have and always will love the Maloos.. amazing utes
depends on what fords you are racing though doesn't it? th-cam.com/video/UNx5H-IKZYA/w-d-xo.html
To be honest your car review is definitely better than the carwow nowadays which focuses too much on ads/promotions bullcraps. Yours is just straight to the main points!
thanks so much man! trying to constantly improve
Carwow is absolute garbage now hahah, they tried to say a Suzuki jimny was more capable than a wrangler
Huge!! I'm a falcon sedan man myself but the maloo wins hands down for the Ute, absolute beast!!

But the Mallo is so slow!

Another great video mate, I’m waiting for the Skoda Superb video with the launch control.
It should be about the same as time these utes .
You have to love these Aussie Utes, I’ve owned both of them in the past and they were awesome and still are.👍
thanks mate! the skoda review will be coming out shortly :)
I've got a Skoda Superb 206 with stage 2 done on it. It flies . 0-100 in 4 secs and 1/4 mile in 12.4
Great comparison, Ross. I have an '08' XR8 ute and a '2010' SV6 sedan. Both with less than 100,000ks on the clock. My ute sounds every bit as good as the Maloo. I prefer to drive the SV6 on a trip, and I guess it's because a sedan is that little bit more comfortable. I take the V8 ute for a Saturday night in town or a weekend cruise. I can't compare them like you just did, as one is a ute.
But, I also have a '07' V8 S4 Audi, and to be honest, I'd choose the Audi any day, over either Holden or the Ford. For sheer driving pleasure, the Audi has both beat, hands down.
I agree the Audi would be more comfy until you have to take motor out to change a spark plug
@@missinglink4205 Actually, you can change the plugs without removing the engine. It's a bit of rooting around to get at them, but it can be done. The big thing is the $6,000 price tag to replace the timing chain. More like $9,000 if it goes while driving.
That's why most of these have low ks. LOL. Nobody wants to risk it.
But damn, nice to drive, all the same.
I've decided that if I ever have to pull the motor out, I'm just going to do an LS swap.
How much does the Audi cost in comparison?
@@georgea8298 I assume you mean "to purchase". A new Audi is far more expensive than either the Ford or the Holden. But buying second hand, well, there's a problem, my V8 ute is going up in price exponentially, while the S4 is also going up in price. Both have nearly doubled in price in the last 3 yrs. So buying either will be pretty expensive, but they will continue to increase in price.
Of course, selling a collectable car is not as easy as it might sound, so you might find someone that needs the money in a hurry.
As for running costs, they're both pretty much the same, with maybe the Audi costing a little more if you take them to someone for a scheduled service.
@@crustydownunder The point is at factory price both Ford and Holden sold for a lot less then Audi's and other European models . Having said that I've always liked the look of Audi's. It would be my choice out of the European brands.
F6 for the win 🥇
gotta love the barra
Awesome comparison - im a Holden man through and through, but can respect that Ford, what a machine! Still prefer my VZ manual clubby though he he..
Top video Johnny! Really enjoyed that one, great content. Keep up the good work
cheers! loved this one
Can you guys please test the Toyota Aurion, both XV40 & XV50 series if possible?
Would love to hear your thoughts on them. 😄
I’ve been looking for one! If anyone has a clean one… Get in contact with me 📱👏
and the TRD Aurion
Love the content mate.. I think the fact that they are a “Ute” is lost in both ranges.. they more have become a 2 door performance car.. I’d love the f6 in my driveway :)
The Ford has leaf springs & can become a wellside so definitely still a Ute
@@xeftones Yup, latter Holden utes where only rated for 508kg including occupants and non-standard accessories, car like handling because it wasn't a ute.
@@xeftones I love my falcons on paper and for practicality, but commodores just feel more fun, the utes anyway
Ur F6 in your drive way would get chopped my some P plater guys out there 😂 Slow pieces of junk and it's a ford.. Nothing fancy lol

Great review ! F6 is more of a Ute that can be used & looks cleaner to me, never did dig the look of the VE HSV.
Nor did I man, I don't see the whole thing Holden's being better 😂👍
You're a kid in candy shop every time you sit in an Aussie ute! Bloody awesome review!
i love my job!
I have a VE Maloo and an FPV GT-P with a blower on it. Does that mean I'm winning?
For the record, yes the auto in the Maloo is just too slushy and confused compared to the scalpel feel of the ZF in the GT-P.
The GT-P feels sharper and more direct to drive than the Maloo too, but the Maloo has the nicer seating position.
Agree with everything you said
Holden trans have always been slushy.Lost count on how many GMH boys think my cars have shift kits fitted especially in the older stuff.
Ford man since a kid in the 70s, but the Maloo for me with the 8. Enjoyment even at low speeds around town
Fair point
6 pots on the front of the Falcon, optioned or fitted later I wonder. Awesome comparison, how lucky were we to have these kind of cars available!
good spot! this did have the upgraded 6 pot brembos
I like my cars quiet and fast, love the f6 but I can say that maloo is very nice as well!
Both are amazing eh
For me the Maloo is gualdy over the top on outside but interior is better. The Barra turbo is nuts I have a 650rwhp 1000Nm G6 and it's crazy fun
that is one hell of a good number eh! haha..
@@RossReviewsau yeah that's on e85 I usually run detuned on 98 still nuts... VF SS drivers don't even try 😁
Cannot Wait for this one!
Hope you enjoyed it mate
@@RossReviewsau I did mate, one ripper of a video
Maloo looks and sounds so awesome! Seems like such a lot of fun. Barra is always tempting though…
both are so amazing !
The Maloo doesn't just have coil springs in the rear it has a complete independent rear suspension system against the live axle in the FPV.
you know what i mean.. coil vs leaf
Being a 2010 F6 and completely stock then one would assume it still has the restrictor ring in the exhaust… killing quiet a bit of response all for emissions… both wicked cars but love me F6’s… and as a ute being used as a ute Ford I love the maloo but the fact that you can barely use them as one really kills it, all that just for show…
2010 didnt have the restrictor ring in there - it was a 2011 onwards.
@@out_on_bail mine is a 2010 mk1.5 and it had the restrictor ring in the zorst…was promptly removed an boy did it make a difference
@@schtix392 what month build was yours

Great comparison. In the washup I reckon it's swings and roundabouts. Which one do I like? Which one would I buy? I owned a AUII XLS ute for a lot of years and the driver's seat was one of my fav places. :) Cheers.
thanks Neil! loved this one
Great video Ross ! 👍
Yeah that F6 needs an exhaust or even just a middle muffler delete to give that Barra some growl lol ✌
they def do.. but man it was nice to see this stock one in the flesh
Churr ma bro. Aussie Barra strong 💪
chur my bro!
Great review Ross, you always do an awesome job. 👌 keep up the good work.
thanks so much jerry!
Both of these utes are great in their own way... Which is better though? Write down below!
My friend has a VE Maloo and I've got an FG F6 so here's my humble opinion:
Looks: Subjective, both look very nice imo
Sound: Maloo
Handling: Maloo handles much better, plus has better/bigger brakes
Interior: Maloo wins
Power: F6 pulls harder
Reliability: My F6 has had less issues than his Maloo
Both very nice cars and a rare sight nowadays.
Ford and Holden💙❤️
Thanks for the insight... Let me guess, your friends Maloo had lifter issues!
Two aussie legends. Bloody great cars.
2 of the best! love Australian utes
Really great having the build number right there so accessible for when you need it.
😂
Great Review. Tuning and stupid power - go the FPV. For cruising to the sound of that v8 track - the HSV. Like you say in the end...you need to have both..at the same time (sigh)
Well said! brother
Fantastic review mate I have a 2010 XR8 ute not as fast as these two but good enough for me and mine is a manual
thanks mate really glad you enjoyed it! gotta love a XR8
Ones a grunty car with a ute body the other is a grunty commerical vehicle. God I miss them. Have owned many brands and really dont care theres good and not so good models of both brands going to back to when the legends started. The V8 ute was the Aussie sports car.
2 legendary rigs for sure.. its sad they are no more here
You sure know how to turn a shit day at work to a better arvo at home👍🇦🇺🍻 Cheers mate
Glad I can help ya out mate 🍻
From what i saw the f6 was on a slightly steeper downhill slope. Nonethelessvery much enjoyed the comparison
maybe its just a back road test.. both great cars
I miss this era of automotive history in Australia, we don’t see much of them on the road anymore, healthy rivalry between two iconic brands and now the world is getting taken over by utes, SUV’s and dull EV’s.
If I was a collector looking for a good investment I’d definitely go for a stock F6310
Sedan or Ute, so many of them seem to be modified so in say 20 years time a nice clean stock one will be worth a fortune I reckon
I just bought myself a fg mk2 f6, bone stock atm. It's hard to keep it stock with how much potential they have haha but im trying to keep it stock as long as possible
they def will be worth more stock! so rare to find
You're forgetting that they are easily turned back to stock provided you've kept the standard gear, which is mostly easy to come by due to everyone modifying them if you don't have it.
Awesome vid bro was great ,both auto both stock as a rock 🤙🏻
Tried to keep it fair 👏
I love how the Maloo has a sound that makes you but and f6 is silent af
silent but deadly
Such a great video John, cheers Miguel
Thanks Miguel!
Hi Ross, just wonder how do you compare the Fpv and HSV to the Lexus ISF which you got on other review? All 3 got very similar in power outputs.
The ISF is amazing for daily duties and luxury! The HSV for pure muscle car vibes and the Barra for out right speed and power
Great video and love both cars.
Not a lot of power out or the Holden 6.2 v8
needs a tune to wake her up and a lumpy cam
I am a nissan man but I don't agree about the looks. I personally love the subtle look all over the f6. I not saying the Maloo ugly it's just more in your face. Anyway I agree with your over all comments that they both great Ute's. 👍
im not even gonna lie, i have been tosing over whats better in forza horizon 5🤣. CANT WAIT TILL THE VID STARTS!!!!
I like the front on the ford. I like the side on the holden. Ive heard the holden is the faster car, but the ford is the tougher truck. Aussie auto world, we miss you.
as more of a holden fanboy i must admit you cant diss the incredible
4l inline 6 in those things and the car its self is just wow
Nothing beats a beefy V8 sound.
You can have the worlds fastest turbod Barra and I’d still choose an aggressive sounding V8 HSV
i do agree the sound of a good V8 is amazing.. thats why both in your garage is best! haha
@@RossReviewsau not wrong 😂 I keep a V8 for the sound but my bike is for the speed 😂 cheapest way to win races is to get a bike
I will never understand why some people dont choose the v8.it doesnt matter if the turbo does a 6 second quarter mile v8s feel different to turbos
The V8 paired to a manual is a magical thing.. I’ll give ya that
Ross. would you consider doing a review in South Australia between a AU Falcon Ute and a VT Commodore Ute????
Ahh let me think 100% yes😳
So now that your sold on the idea, where to from here? What state to do you reside?
You just can’t beat the rumble of a V8. Though you also can’t beat the pull from the Turbo boost. Can I have both??
BOTH IS THE ONLY WAY!
Gotta say being a holden man, the f6 is definitely a beast, gotta respect both weapons
Absolutely gotta respect both
My fg xr6t sedan with just a tune chopped a clubsport 317 easily.....i cant believe i paid 37k for it brand new in 2011....such a bargain.
WOW that is a deal! gotta love a barra
Yes mate 2 great Aussie Utes & to be honest I'd be happy to own either, the only thing to pick on with these Utes is exactly what you already mentioned, the Ford has worse interior & the Holden should have a box like the great ZF,you've hit another one out of the park Johnny a great review thanks.
Good review and good to see a run with standards cars.
Thanks Peter! Was a lot of fun
Maloo just hit different 🔥
they do look mint
Thanks Great vid. We did build great cars here. I would go the maloo in manual. Cant beat the v8 music. One day i will put an LS 2 in my hj panelvan. Looking forward to that. Loved your presentation.
100% would want the MALOO in manual
So keen for this bro keep it up
Thanks my guy🤟
I would love that maloo in a stick shift. But The f6 with an exhaust and a tune will put out over 320kw at the tyres
I love your work on Tiktok and TH-cam about cars
Thanks brother appreciate it
Maloo all day everyday. LS Sound cannot be matched in my opinion.
sound wise 100% right.. sounds amazing even stock like this one
Anyone that has ever done this for real on a race track or track day the hsv wins hands down, handling braking, in a straight run the 6, after that to go around a corner hsv all day, also for daily on Aussie roads hsv all day. Our R8 on Queensland raceway killed the 310 with race drivers as well, all stock.
your right Paul.. HSV better on track.. F6 better in the straights.. both legends
HSV brakes better than the Fords.....hardly
the best thing about these utes as in auto is pulling gears, rather than pushing like every other car brand.
6:22 listen with headers cam exuast they can sound very good

im trying every week
I'm amazed at a lot of the Kool powerful cars made by Ford in other countries not sold but in those countries.
There are so many in Australia especially
I’ve always owned Holden’s but I could not turn down a white f6 ute

The diff is a problem as well. Being a holden lover, i know the diff and the long gears is the killer for the beast. The common ratio is 3.08 for the holden diff, while the later fords had a 3.73 in their diff.
vz upwards are 3.45 in the maloos
