    You should have struck a chalk line to follow along the wall for the first board. Not just joist. Your nailing thru face was unnecessary, you could have blind nailed it thru tongue. Then no nails will show. When you do face mail, each nail should be offset . Not down the middle. Nail each opposite side . from joist to joist. I am a retired professionally trained carpenter. sorry to be critical, but if your going to make such a video , know Better of what you are doing.

      What's your view on using furring strips over existing popcorn ceiling without scraping? If scraping is better why not just scrape along the joists and using furring strips?

    So sad to cover up that beautiful wood with white paint. Why waste your time putting up real wood to jusr cover it up ?

    If you install furring strips on top of popcorn textured ceiling you run the risk of them not being inline with EACH OTHER . I am not talking the 16 in layout, I am referring to the up and down look..not left and right look. I would at least roughly scrap off textured compound where the furring strips will land. I know it’s not easy, but you are about to do too much work to not have it look great. It’s worth the extra effort ..

    Much encouragement to you for your channel. Please please learn about microphones 🎙️
    A cheap lavaliere 🎤 for the first segment would’ve gone a long way for the otherwise good production.

    Why not a secret nail ... each nail going through the tongue ... then avoiding the hundreds of nail holes ?

    Thanks for sharing this video Mr. Moser!! can we do this over popcorn ceiling?

    • @PlaidCatStudio
      @PlaidCatStudio 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not Mr. Moser but will give you my 2 cents worth. I've installed this type of product many times on both walls and ceilings. I would not put it over popcorn ceiling. The planks won't sit flat and that will make them a pain to fit together. The good news is that, while messy, popcorn ceiling is pretty easy to remove. Spray it down with water and it peels right off with a drywall blade (the wider the better). A quick search on YT will turn up lots of videos on the process. Good luck with your DIY. :)

      I agree with the above response. I think you could, but it would be difficult to get it sit nice and flat. Removing popcorn is very messy, but not very hard. The hard part is making the drywall look smooth and flat again afterwards, but if you are installing a cladding like this then that doesn't matter.

      Yes you can. Install 1x2 batten or fir strips over the popcorn ceiling. Attach your tongue and groove boards to that. You won’t need adhesive at that point. There are videos on you tube to show you how it’s done.

    Such a great finished look, seems like that could work on any ceiling - in a van or a house.

      Home Depot and Lowe’s usually sell both the cedar and pine versions, but not all the stores stock them locally. For this since I needed a bunch I did an online order through Home Depot.

    Always blind nail these, dont face nail like this. For the white look to remove the yellow or the possiblity of the pine going more yellow, use a waterbased white stain then wipe it off. Then spray it with a water based clear coat. All prior to installing, got to remember this wood will expand and contract. The toung joins will seperate a tad depending on time of year and anythign not finished will show though.

    • @MoserMakes
      @MoserMakes  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey - I totally agree on pre-finishing the boards with a white stain and clear coat before installing. I have had the issue with the a little bit of unfinished area showing during the dryer parts of the year when the boards shrink a little. As for blind nailing, I don't think that would work with these particular planks as they are too thin and nailing near the tongue may cause the tongue to break. For a more standard 3/4" tongue and groove plank I think you are absolutely right about blind nailing. For these thin and light 1/4" planks I think face nailing is the best option.
