Manny is lucky to have you for a friend, not only can you repair his bike, but you can also do it right.

Guess with the handle bars you will be rewiring? You did good. You're a true friend. Wish more people would learn how a true friend should be. Thank you for sharing. Much love. Stay safe and healthy

Well, there’s wiring to the dash, so shouldn’t be too bad just to hook up some handle bar buttons 🤞🏻

I'm 67 years old with my first bike, a 1998 Sporty with '03 running gear. I bought it in 2019, and since have replaced petcock, and just did a shifter pawl adjustment in my 10 x 12 shed. lol

".. and I'm sure I'm going to be working on this again..." Yeah, probably so. Manny got a good deal simply in you squaring the axle and in getting the chunks out of the brake line. Surprising those had not caused him problems. I don't know if you ever said what year of Sportster this is, but I'm not sure it has aged well. Looks great though.

The first two owners from my understanding rode it a ton, and modified it a lot! No clue how many miles are on it, it’s a 2002. Manny and I have been friends for well over a decade now. Good guy.

The safety wire on the front caliper is usually required by some racing organizations, maybe this bike was flat tracked or possibly used for track days as I’ve seen Sportsters at track days at NJMP

I guess he did race, not this bike, but it explains some of the styling choices.

In Texas you could not get it inspected and registered without signal lights and horn. Have to get it inspected before you can register yearly.

Jordan don't sell yourself short, you did a great job with the wiring.
re the brake fluid, dot 5 is silicone, doesn't absorb water which is good, but it needs rubbers which are designed for it. Sometimes old seals, which swell in dot 3 or 4 , will start leaking if dot 5 is used.
Dot 5.1 is some hybrid which is backward compatible with dot 3 or 4 . . i'm not sure, its composition might depend on the brand. It's usually too dear to bother with!!

The brake caliper is fine stopping while moving forward however moving backwards is a problem.
